  • Bittersweet

    Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen

Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen is 99c at Amazon! It doesn’t seem to be a Kindle Daily Deal, so hopefully it’ll start being price-matched. I’ve heard great things about this book and it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads. Readers loved the writing and sense of place created, but others found there to be too much farm talk and a lackluster romance. I also believe this was mentioned at our RT17 Reader Recommendation Party!

The new series is set in Vermont. True North is populated by the tough, outdoorsy mountain men that populate the Green Mountain State. They raise cows and they grow apples. They chop a lot of wood, especially when they need to blow off steam. (Beards are optional but encouraged.)

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the orchard.

The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago they’d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago.

At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesn’t have time for the sorority girl who’s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price.

Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder’s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay—a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way.

They’re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audrey’s top secret enchilada sauce, and then some.

  • Friday Night Brides

Friday Night Brides by Samantha Chase

Friday Night Brides by Samantha Chase is $2.99! This contemporary romance is about four friends who are all either finding love or trying to maintain it. Readers loved the female friendships, while others wished for a singular romance rather than following multiple characters.

    Four women.
    Twenty years.
    Five hundred bridal fashion shows.

They’ve been friends since they were five, and modeling for Enchanted Bridal has been as much of a part of their lives as their friendship has. And this season has them seeing more than new wedding trends.

Hailey’s family owns Enchanted Bridal and she knows there’s a possibility that someday it will be hers. She’s not sure that’s the path she wants to take, but she does know that she’s been hopelessly crushing on the perfect man and bridal show model Logan Baxter III. While failing to gain Logan’s attention, she can’t seem to get rid of the less-than-perfect man – and model – Jackson Carr. He’s big and bold and tattooed – pretty much everything Hailey despises. And yet…there’s something about him that has Hailey questioning her definition of perfect.

Becca’s got a knack for dating the wrong kind of guys. When her current boyfriend publicly dumps and humiliates her, she’s devastated. Wanting to run and hide, she’s mortified that the stranger who had witnessed the entire scene is now part of the Enchanted Bridal family. But when Max Abrams offers her comfort and tells her that he thinks she’s beautiful, she has to wonder if maybe getting dumped by Mr. Wrong has finally led her to her very own Mr. Right.

Angie’s loud and feisty and completely fearless. That is until she gets dumped by the one guy she really had feeling for. It opens her up to insecurities she didn’t know she had and she’s not sure what to do about it. But when Sean Patterson comes back into her life in a big way, she’s not sure she’s ready to forgive and forget quite so easily. His persistence and her stubbornness make for an exciting chase, however, but at the end of the season, it’s ultimately up to her if she’s ready to quit running.

Ella’s been planning her perfect wedding to Dylan Graham since she was twelve. Together for thirteen years, Ella’s beginning to wonder if that number really is bad luck. She can’t focus on all that’s right in her life because all she can think about is what she may be missing. Their parents have taken over their wedding, her friends all seem to be in crisis and Dylan’s just not listening to her fears. Not one to ever make waves, she suddenly finds that that’s exactly what she’s doing and turning everyone’s life upside down in the process. The life that she once considered boring is now the one she longs for, but it may be too late.

    Four friends.
    Four crossroads.
Four possibilities for happily ever after

  • Roman

    Roman by Sawyer Bennett

Roman by Sawyer Bennett is $1.99! This is book seven in the Cold Fury Hockey series. Though I believe it can be read as a standalone, readers say you’ll have a deeper understanding of the characters if you’ve read the previous books. As for the hero, readers loved the troublemaking hockey player.

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett steams up the ice all over again as the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team’s hottest bad boy gets his first taste of something good.

In a league full of troublemakers, Cold Fury defenseman Roman Sýkora stands out—at least when it comes to negative publicity. When he’s not chilling in the penalty box, the sizzling Czech skate demon is racking up tabloid headlines for his scandalous behavior with the ladies. But now Roman’s feeling the burn from management to clean up his act, or else. Luckily he’s got an enticing distraction: a fun-loving barista who plays the ukulele and brings out a side of Roman he didn’t know he had.

Lexi Robertson came to Raleigh, North Carolina, to finally meet her father, Brian Brannon, and her half sister, Gray, both of whom work in the Cold Fury’s front office. That’s where she first meets sexy, intimidating Roman—who’s really a big softie at heart. As one relationship takes off, another begins: Brian seems to be clicking with Lexi’s boss at the coffee shop. But when the friction between Roman and her new family heats up, Lexi wonders whether she’s a pawn in their game. Feeling hurt and foolish, Lexi’s ready to quit while she’s ahead. Trouble is, Roman’s not ready to quit on her.

  • My Seductive Highlander

My Seductive Highlander by Maeve Greyson

My Seductive Highlander by Maeve Greyson is 99c! This is the fourth book in the time-traveling, matchmaking historical romance series. The rest of the books, if you’re looking to binge, are $3.99 each. Some readers wanted more believability in certain scenarios, while others embraced the silliness (given the time traveling hero).

In this scintillating novel from the author of My Tempting Highlander (“Another exciting and heartwarming time-travel romance.”—Vonnie Davis), the ladies’ man of Loch Ness meets a hot-tempered lass who sets his heart aflame.

Though part of a legacy of time-traveling sisters, Lilia Sinclair is planted firmly in twenty-first-century Edinburgh. Her granny’s matchmaking with thirteenth-century Highlanders isn’t about to lure her into the past, especially as ancient Scotland enters troubled times. After all, Lilia is blessed—or cursed—with dire prophetic visions. To protect herself, she’s put up an icy emotional wall no man could cross—until a pair of gorgeous, rippling arms breaks right through.

Graham MacTavish is pure trouble. Once the dragon bound to Loch Ness, he’s transformed into a philanderer of the first order. In fact, because of his dalliances with other men’s wives, a rival clan wants his head on a pike. Before he provokes an all-out war, Graham is banished to the twenty-first century, where he must win Lilia’s hand—or return to die. But after meeting a lass as fierce as any Highland warrior, Graham knows one thing: life with Lilia, in any century, is a fate to embrace.

  1. Mandy says:

I loved Sarina Bowen’s True North series so much! I devoured them one right after another.

  2. cbackson says:

I’ve gotta say that “ukulele-playing barista” sounds a little bit too Manic Pixie Dream Girl for me…

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

BITTERSWEET may seem a little over-detailed because it’s setting up all of the characters for subsequent books, plus the hero runs a farm and makes cider–so there’s a lot of technical detail. But please stay with it–the love story is nice and the next two books (STEADFAST and KEEPSAKE) are really special.

  4. Marci says:

Prime Minister by Ainsley Boothe and Sadie Haller is FREE on Amazon. It’s a fun, kinky read that I really enjoyed.

  5. Peggy says:

Fish Out of Water by Amy Lane is $0.99 at amazon.
(I am a huge fan of her books!)

  6. Thank you! I had Bittersweet on my Kindle wish list, and when I checked, it was also discounted to 0.99 on Amazon Canada. Happy dance!

  7. Egged says:

LOVED Bittersweet. I actually really loved the farming detail, it really gave the book a sense of place.

  8. MaryK says:

The blurb for Bittersweet makes the heroine sound pretty unsympathetic. How accurate is the blurb?

  9. Naomi says:

I’m tempted to buy Bittersweet just for the cover – holy cannoli, that model is just my catnip!

  10. Erika says:

@MaryK: The heroine in Bittersweet is not that bad. She has a job to do and she is trying her best to do it. She is fine, but I agreed with the above comments regarding too much details. The story feels too slow at times with too much information about what their characters to-do lists are at their various jobs.

  11. CelineB says:

Prime Minister by Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller, the first in the Frisky Beavers series, is free on Amazon right now. I’m very glad I resisted buying it back when it was .99.

  12. Hazel says:

I do like to read realistic accounts of situations that are often romanticised, like farming, or soldiering (is that a word?) so was happy to try a sample of Bittersweet. But I found the prose dull and plodding, so won’t go on to read the book.
