HaBO: Lesbian Coming-of-Age Story in NYC

This HaBO is from Brandy, who is not necessarily searching for a romance:

I need help finding the title of the book. The book is about a young woman (around 20 yrs old) who moves to New York and lives next door to another young woman, who she becomes very close friends with. There are some lesbian undertones to the book, but it’s hard to tell if she’s curious or discovering she’s gay. I believe one of the girls had red hair. I also remember a boyfriend coming to visit and one of the other girls getting jealous. I also remember that the main character was working for a temp agency there in New York.

The book is a little dark and it’s sort of a coming of age story. I remember reading the book around 2002 so it’s at least that old.
