  • The Obsession

    The Obsession by Nora Roberts

RECOMMENDED: The Obsession by Nora Roberts is $1.99! Elyse really loved this book; she’s our resident romantic suspense reader. She does warn that the book can get pretty creepy, but she gave it an A- grade:

The suspense worked for me (most of the time) and, as usual, Roberts’ writing transported me to my happy place. The detailed descriptions blended in seamlessly with the dialogue and action, and it let me shut my brain down for awhile and just enjoy the story.

Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her father’s crimes and made him infamous.

Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, thousands of miles away from everything she’s ever known. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open up―especially the determined Xander Keaton.

Naomi can feel her defenses failing, and knows that the connection her new life offers is something she’s always secretly craved. But as she’s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away.

  • Beautiful Burn

    Beautiful Burn by Jamie McGuire

Beautiful Burn by Jamie McGuire is $2.99! This is a New Adult romance and the fourth in a series. While it can be read as a standalone, reviews mention that your enjoyment of the book might increase if you have background info from previous books. Elyse gave this book a B-:

Fans of darker, angsty romance should definitely give Beautiful Burn a try. For me Ellie’s personal journey was as satisfying as her romance with Tyler, and the details about the hotshots fighting wildfires got me past the glut of secondary characters and sections that dragged a bit.

Fresh out of college, Ellison Edson has fallen through the cracks of rock bottom. While staying in her family’s vacation home in Colorado, her behavior has finally gained the attention of her parents—but not in the way she hoped. Cut off from the millions she’s always taken for granted, and left alone to fend for herself, Ellie spirals further out of control, making a mistake she can’t take back.

Like his twin brother Taylor, Tyler Maddox is a member of the Alpine Hotshots, fighting wildland fires on the frontline. As arrogant as he is charming, Tyler’s nomadic lifestyle makes it easy to contain his relationships to one night. When he meets Ellie at a local party during off-season, her extreme personality and dismissive attitude fascinates him at first, but as his feelings deepen, Tyler realizes that the crippling inner demons of the woman he loves might be the strongest enemy any Maddox has ever faced.

  • Libriomancer

    Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines

RECOMMENDED: Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines is $1.99! This urban fantasy novel combines things that a lot of us love: books and magic. Back when Carrie was a guest reviewer, she gave this book an A- grade and said it had a “fantastic concept.” Have you read it?

Isaac Vainio is a Libriomancer, a member of the secret organization founded five centuries ago by Johannes Gutenberg. Libriomancers are gifted with the ability to magically reach into books and draw forth objects. When Isaac is attacked by vampires that leaked from the pages of books into our world, he barely manages to escape. To his horror he discovers that vampires have been attacking other magic-users as well, and Gutenberg has been kidnapped.

With the help of a motorcycle-riding dryad who packs a pair of oak cudgels, Isaac finds himself hunting the unknown dark power that has been manipulating humans and vampires alike. And his search will uncover dangerous secrets about Libriomancy, Gutenberg, and the history of magic. . . .

  • Guarding Mr. Fine

Guarding Mr. Fine by HelenKay Dimon

Guarding Mr. Fine by HelenKay Dimon is 99c! This is a gay romantic suspense novel and the third book in the Tough Love series. The first book in the series, Mr. and Mr. Smith is currently nominated for a RITA. Readers loved the banter and chemistry between the two heroes in this one, but readers of the entire series say this one has a bit of a different feel that didn’t gel with them as much.

In this steamy novel of seduction and international intrigue, two brave men are stripped of their defenses—and exposed to dangers and desires that simmer below the surface.

As an agent with the CIA’s special activities division, Seth Lang lives for risk—and yet he’s stuck playing bodyguard to the U.S. consul general in Munich. Although Seth’s last assignment nearly killed him, babysitting some desk jockey in a suit sounds way too easy. But when he lays eyes on the new top man, tactical expert Rick Fine, Seth’s thrilled to see just how hard this job is going to get. Mr. Tall, Dark, and Quiet has a body worth guarding—and he requires hands-on attention day and night.

Dispatched to a German consulate to expose the murder of his predecessor, Rick finds himself in an extremely vulnerable position. He needs a man like Seth—in so many ways. This mission will inevitably plunge them both into jeopardy, but each new threat only brings them closer. Rick just hopes that he can keep his deepest, darkest secret hidden—or else risk imperiling a relationship they’re both fighting for their lives to protect.

  1. Heather S says:

I have been wanting to read Libriomancer for a while, especially after watching “The Librarians” and related movies. Thanks for this! (And I used the affiliate link, so enjoy those extra pennies). ^_^

  2. Just FYI, The Obsession contains the most hilarious solution to My Dog Won’t Wear This Cone After Being Snipped!

  3. Meg says:

I don’t read much contemporary, but I LOVED HelenKay Dimon’s Guarding Mr. Fine. I read it in a rush, then one-clicked the first two books in the series. They are equally delicious. Thanks so much for the heads up on the sale.

  4. Emily C says:

Sherry Thomas’ A Study in Scarlet Women is 1.99 at Amazon and Christie Carlyle’s A Sudy in Scoundrels is .99

  5. cleo says:

I’m in the minority but I really couldn’t get into Libriomancer. The humor was too clever for my taste and while I know the Lina character is supposed to be a feminist re-assessment of historically bad female representations, I didn’t think it was completely successful. Read the excerpt.

  6. Alice in Nova Scotia says:

Do you know if The Obsession by Nora Roberts is on sale in Canada via Amazon or ITunes? Thank you.

  7. Eggedreader says:

I read Libriomancer and finished it but thought the concept worked better than the execution. I agree with Cleo that Lina didn’t really work for me as a character, and the writing could be too clever or clunky in places. Worth a try at the sale price, as the concept really is entertaining.

  8. Lostshadows says:

I enjoyed the whole Libromancer series. I can definitely understand the reaction to Lena, but I felt she worked better in later books once she got more chance to develop as a character. YMMV

  9. Mara says:

I’m in LOVE with “The Obsession”! It made me fall into a Nora binge last year. I’ve actually got a booktube review of it going up tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to include this sale in the description 🙂

  10. Konst. says:

The Libromacer cover deserves some heavy Cover Snark… 😉

  11. Lisa says:

Read The Obsession bc of this sale, and I liked it. But, boy, I do not know how this heroine is okay after all of this. The whole 2nd serial killer plot, while providing a mystery, just gave way too much baggage. Just seeing her find peace, a home, and building a life would have been enough. Not sure how one deals with having 2 serial killers in their life.

Still enjoyed the book. But could have worked for me as well or better without the mystery plot.
