  • Passion Favors the Bold

Passion Favors the Bold by Theresa Romain

Passion Favors the Bold by Theresa Romain is 99c! This is the second book in the Royal Rewards series and Sarah gave it a B:

Rushed and hurried resolutions aside, I still enjoyed so much of this book, and recommend it to anyone who likes thoughtful, character-driven historicals with a bit of mystery and an increasing community of characters not often seen in historicals which surrounds the protagonists.

    DESPERATE MEASURES
Georgette Frost’s time is almost up. On her twenty-first birthday, the protections outlined in her late parents’ will are set to expire. With prospects for employment or marriage unfavorable at best, she decides to leave London and join her brother, Benedict, on a treasure hunt for gold sovereigns stolen from the Royal Mint.

    DANGEROUS LIAISONS
Lord Hugo Starling has always felt protective of his friend Benedict’s sister, Georgette. So when he discovers her dressed in ragged boy’s clothes, about to board a coach for parts unknown, he feels duty bound to join her search. But mystery piles upon mystery as they cross England together, not least of which is the confounded attraction between them. As Georgette leads him to a reward he never expected, Hugo realizes he’s embarked upon the adventure of a lifetime…

  • Susana and the Scot

Susana and the Scot by Sabrina York

Susana and the Scot by Sabrina York is $1.99! This is a current RITA finalist in the Long Historical category. We’ve had two reviews of this book come in.

Reviewer HeatherT gave it a B-:

Everyone fulfills their role exactly as expected. They show up and play their parts while Isobel zips about climbing on roofs and practicing archery in the library. It’s fine.

    Reviewer Robin R. gave it a B:

Overall, this was an enjoyable read with an exciting plot and the sparks really flew between the two main characters.

    Scotland, 1813.

    A SCANDALOUS TEMPTATION
Andrew Lochlannach is famous for his conquests, on and off the battlefield. When a fellow warrior challenges him to a kissing contest, he wastes no time in planting his lips on ninety-nine lovely lasses-an impressive feat of seduction that gets him banished to the hinterlands. Still, Andrew has no regrets about his exploits-especially his embrace with the most beguiling woman he’s ever met…

    AN UNDENIABLE PASSION
With flaming red hair and a temper to match, Susana is not some innocent farmgirl who gives herself over easily to a man, even one as ruggedly handsome as Andrew. The wicked Scot may have won a kiss from the headstrong beauty in a moment of mutual desire, but Susana refuses to be just another one of his conquests. Andrew must convince the fiery lass that even though he is not playing a game, losing her is not an option…

  • Only a Mistress Will Do

Only a Mistress Will Do by Jenna Jaxon

Only a Mistress Will Do by Jenna Jaxon is 99c! This historical romance has some taboo elements as the hero is already soon to be wed to another, though I’m unsure if there’s any full-blown cheating elements. Readers loved the heroine, but found the plot to be rather repetitive.

The man of her dreams . . . belongs to another woman.

Destitute and without friends, Violet Carlton is forced to seek employment at the House of Pleasure in London. She steels herself for her first customer and is shocked when the man rescues her instead of ravishing her. A grateful Violet cannot help but admire the handsome Viscount Trevor. But she must curb her desire for the dashing nobleman she can never have because he is already betrothed to another . . .

Tristan had gone to the House of Pleasure for a last bit of fun before he became a faithful married man. But when he recognizes the woman in his bed, he becomes determined to save her instead. Now, his heart wars with his head as he falls for the vulnerable courtesan. Unable to break his betrothal without a scandal, Tris resolves to find Violet proper employment or a husband of her own. Still, his arms ache for Violet, urging him to abandon propriety and sacrifice everything to be with the woman he loves. . .

  • From London with Love

From London with Love by Diana Quincy

From London with Love by Diana Quincy is 99c! This is a second chance romance between a spy and a woman who never wants to see his face again. Readers loved that this was a quick, fun read, but felt that the hero’s baggage wasn’t convincing enough for his actions. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

With wedding bells ringing and a killer stalking from the shadows, a former British spy makes up for lost time with the one that got away in this thrilling Regency romance from the author of Spy Fall and License to Wed.

Emilia St. George is moments away from marrying the admired grandson of a duke when the man who once jilted her decides to kidnap her at the altar. It’s the second time in five years Hamilton Sparrow has ruined her wedding day, and Emilia isn’t about to forgive him. The mere sight of her ex-fiancé revives painful memories—and, most regrettably, aching desires that refuse to be ignored.

Scanning the guests at Emilia’s wedding, Sparrow spots a familiar face: an assassin he recognizes from his days as a spy in France. Whisking Emilia away, he’s pleasantly surprised by her newly formed curves. Could this be the same flame-haired slip of a girl once promised to Sparrow? And does the fop she still insists on marrying realize what a prize she is? True, Sparrow left Emilia at the altar. But he’s afraid that the only way to right that particular wrong is to risk the one thing he’s always guarded: his heart.

“A Study in Scarlet Women” by Sherry Thomas is $1.99 on Amazon Kindle. Not sure if it is being priced matched by other formats.

FYI, I got “A Study in Scarlet Women” for the sale price at B&N yesterday and I think it’s still on sale today.

  4. Dorothea says:

I started “Passion Favors the Bold” but for some reason I was unable to suspend disbelief on the “dressed as a boy” trope combined with the “too impulsive to live” trope, and I quickly dropped it. Was I being too harsh? Does the story overcome those irritants?

  5. Crysta says:

The lady on the cover of “Only a Mistress Will Do” looks less like she’s seducing someone and more like she’s irritated she’s unable to fasten up her own dress. Like, “get your ass over here and lace me up so I can go on my way, kthx.”
