  • The Bedding Proposal

The Bedding Proposal by Tracy Anne Warren

The Bedding Proposal by Tracy Anne Warren is $1.99! This is the first book in The Rakes of Cavendish Square historical romance series. Redheadedgirl reviewed this book and gave it a B:

I’ve read at least one book by Tracy Anne Warren before – The Trouble With Princesses, which I rather enjoyed (but didn’t review). I did enjoy this book, but there were a few things that I needed to discuss. Ultimately, it works out in to a pleasant beach read.

Lord Leo Byron is bored with the aristocratic company he keeps; he needs a distraction, preferably in the form of a beautiful new female companion. So when he sets eyes on fascinating and scandalous divorcée Lady Thalia Lennox, he’s determined to make her intimate acquaintance. But the spirited woman seems to have no intention of accepting his advances no matter how much he chases—or how hard he falls…

Once a darling of Society, Thalia Lennox now lives on its fringes. The cruel lies that gave her a notoriously wild reputation have also left her with a broken heart and led to a solemn vow to swear off men. Still, Leo Byron’s bold overtures are deliciously tempting, and, for the first time, she finds herself wondering whether it just might be worth the risk to let the attractive rake into her life—and her bed…

  • Fingersmith

    Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

UPDATE: It looks like the sale is no longer available.

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters is $1.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! This is the book on which The Handmaiden is based and Carrie loved. Many readers said this is full of twists and is a great thriller. However, there were some that felt the book was rather boring.

“Oliver Twist with a twist…Waters spins an absorbing tale that withholds as much as it discloses. A pulsating story.”— The New York Times Book Review

Sue Trinder is an orphan, left as an infant in the care of Mrs. Sucksby, a “baby farmer,” who raised her with unusual tenderness, as if Sue were her own. Mrs. Sucksby’s household, with its fussy babies calmed with doses of gin, also hosts a transient family of petty thieves—fingersmiths—for whom this house in the heart of a mean London slum is home.

One day, the most beloved thief of all arrives—Gentleman, an elegant con man, who carries with him an enticing proposition for Sue: If she wins a position as the maid to Maud Lilly, a naïve gentlewoman, and aids Gentleman in her seduction, then they will all share in Maud’s vast inheritance. Once the inheritance is secured, Maud will be disposed of—passed off as mad, and made to live out the rest of her days in a lunatic asylum.

With dreams of paying back the kindness of her adopted family, Sue agrees to the plan. Once in, however, Sue begins to pity her helpless mark and care for Maud Lilly in unexpected ways…But no one and nothing is as it seems in this Dickensian novel of thrills and reversals.

  • Hard Knocks

    Hard Knocks by Ruby Lang

Hard Knocks by Ruby Lang is 99c! This contemporary romance has a neurologist heroine and a hockey playing hero. Readers really loved the characterization of the hero and heroine, but some found the heroine a bit cold at times. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Neurologist Helen Chang Frobisher is on a mission to ban hockey from Portland to prevent the kind of concussive brain injury that plagues her father. Oregon Wolves player Adam Magnus is desperately trying to secure his career and his retirement despite the team’s dismal record.

But while the two spar in public over the future of a sports franchise on the brink, in private, they battle an impossible attraction. When their no-strings-attached fling turns into the real thing, Helen and Adam must decide what’s really important to them. Will their relationship end up in the penalty box, or are they a winning combination?

  • Momofuku Milk Bar

Momofuku Milk Bar by Christina Tosi

Momofuku Milk Bar by Christina Tosi is $3.99! Momofuku is a famous and incredibly delicious dessert shop in NYC. Reviews of this cookbook said it doesn’t have a lot of images, if that’s a must have in your cookbook collection. But many loved being able to bring Momofuku’s yumminess into their homes.

The highly anticipated complement to the New York Times bestselling Momofuku cookbook, Momofuku Milk Bar reveals the recipes for the innovative, addictive cookies, pies, cakes, ice creams, and more from the wildly popular bakery.

A runaway success, the Momofuku cookbook suffered from just one criticism among reviewers and fans: where were Christina Tosi’s fantastic desserts? The compost cookie, a chunky chocolate-chip cookie studded with crunchy salty pretzels and coffee grounds; the crack pie, a sugary-buttery confection as craveable as the name implies; the cereal milk ice cream, made from everyone’s favorite part of a nutritious breakfast—the milk at the bottom of a bowl of cereal; the easy layer cakes that forgo fancy frosting in favor of unfinished edges that hint at the yumminess inside.

    Momofuku Milk Bar
finally shares the recipes for these now-legendary riffs on childhood flavors and down-home classics—all essentially derived from ten mother recipes—along with the compelling narrative of the unlikely beginnings of this quirky bakery’s success. It all started one day when Momofuku founder David Chang asked Christina to make a dessert for dinner that night. Just like that, the pastry program at Momofuku began, and Christina’s playful desserts helped the restaurants earn praise from the New York Times and the Michelin Guide and led to the opening of Milk Bar, which now draws fans from around the country and the world.

With all the recipes for the bakery’s most beloved desserts—along with ones for savory baked goods that take a page from Chang’s Asian-flavored cuisine, such as Kimchi Croissants with Blue Cheese—and 100 color photographs, Momofuku Milk Bar makes baking irresistible off-beat treats at home both foolproof and fun.

  1. Kareni says:

And now I’m drooling for one of those desserts.

  2. I don’t think I could eat something called “compost cookie.”

  3. Tam says:

‘Fingersmith’ is showing up at the full price at Amazon..?

  4. @Amanda says:

@Tam: Sorry, Tam! Looks like the sale ended today. I hate it when that happens!

  5. Sunshine says:

Momofuku is a fun cookbook to read, but a very high level of baking skill is necessary and they like to use ingredients that can be hard to find (glucose ordered online, stuff like thT) absolutely delicious if you want to spend the time and money though!

  6. Lora says:

FIngersmith is one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read, and the f/f romance in it is spectacular. The twists and turns of the plot and the challenging, flawed characters are incomparable. I’ve read it about four times, and the last time, I made myself try to read from “Gentleman’s” point of view since he’s cast as the villain of the piece through Sue’s narration. Sue is still my favorite character, but I came to understand and pity Maud as well.
Did I mention it’s gripping in a suspenseful soap opera way, and sexy as hell?

  7. kkw says:

I’m not a fan of milk bar, although I’ve plenty of friends that go nuts for it. If sugary sweet cereal milk sounds off-putting to you too, be warned that it’s worse than it sounds, but if that sounds even vaguely appealing, it’s liable to be a dream come true. I think a lot of it comes down to how very sweet you want your sweets.

  8. Louise says:

Is it just me or … Did anyone else look at The Bedding Proposal and then have to do a quick double-check that we’re not in Cover Snark? I guess on closer examination it isn’t really a sweater vest over a short-sleeved shirt, but still, eeuw.

  9. BellaInAus says:

    Louise,

I was just admiring TBP cover because a) he had all his head and b) his shirt was done up most of the way. lol

But then, most of my library comes from the second hand stores.

  10. Sarah Y. says:

I bought the milk bar book at full price and it is SO worth it! Everything I’ve made so far has been amazing and delicious. My friends have been begging me for more cookies and last week I made 6 double batches of the compost cookies that were immediately inhaled after they came out of the oven. Trust me, you will love this book!

  11. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

Thank you @LisaJo885 for the Midsummer Moon info. It’s also on sale at Amazon.

The first chapter is utterly delightful! There’s a pet hedgehog!!!
