A Talent for Trickery
RECOMMENDED: A Talent for Trickery by Alissa Johnson is 99c! I did a mulled wine recipe for this book as part of Covers & Cocktails. Carrie also reviewed it, giving it an A grade:
I liked the action and the mystery and above all I loved that Lottie’s super power is that she’s super smart and super practical. This book was funny and touching and has stayed in my head since I finished it. Now I just have to figure out how to make time for all the author’s other books. Sleep is overrated, right?

The Devil of Clan Sinclair
The Devil of Clan Sinclair by Karen Ranney is $2.99! This book is one that pops up frequently from reader recommendations. A second chance romance, readers loved the obstacles the couple had to overcome in order to get their happy ending, while some felt the conflict could have been resolved with a simple conversation. This book has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads and is the first in the Clan Sinclair series.
To Dance with the Devil…
For Virginia Traylor, Countess of Barrett, marriage was merely the vehicle to buy her father a title. Widowhood, however, brings a host of problems. For her husband deliberately spent the money intended for Virginia and her in-laws, leaving them penniless— unless she produces an heir. Desperate and confused, Virginia embarks on a fateful journey that brings her to the doorstep of the only man she’s ever loved…
He’s known as the Devil, but Macrath Sinclair doesn’t care. He moved to a tiny Scottish village in hopes of continuing his work as an inventor and starting a family of his own. He bought the house; he chose the woman. Unfortunately, Virginia didn’t choose him. Macrath knows he should turn her away now, but she needs him, and he wants her more than ever. Whatever game Virginia’s playing, Macrath intends to win— one wickedly seductive deed at a time…

Beauty and the Bounty Hunter
Beauty and the Bounty Hunter by Lori Austin is $2.99! This is an enemies-to-lovers story in a Western setting. Readers loved the complicated history the hero and heroine had. However, others found the hero unlikable. Trigger warning, as some reviewers mention that rape is part of the heroine’s backstory.
Love and revenge both come at a price.
Cathleen Chase is no killer—but as Cat O’Banyon, she is a ruthless bounty hunter who always gets her man. Catching one lowlife after another, she continues her search for the only man she really cares to locate. The one whose voice she will never forget; the man who murdered her husband. She’ll stop at nothing to find him.
Con artist Alexi Romanov taught Cat every trick she knows. He is a master of deceit, disguise, and desire. He’s difficult to trust, and even more difficult to resist, but he has news she can’t ignore. The man she’s after has placed a bounty on her head. To get him before he gets her, she’ll have to team up with Alexi again…and just like before, the two of them together are nothing but trouble.

The Good Girls Revolt
The Good Girls Revolt by Lynn Povich is $2.99! This is nonfiction and the book was turned into a now-cancelled Amazon Prime series with Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect). Readers definitely recommend this for anyone who is interested in women’s history, but others felt the writing conflicted with the story. Have you read this one?
On March 16, 1970, Newsweek magazine hit newsstands with a cover story on the fledgling feminist movement entitled “Women in Revolt.” That same day, 46 Newsweek women, Lynn Povich among them, announced they’d filed an EEOC complaint charging their employer with “systematic discrimination” against them in hiring and promotion.
In “The Good Girls Revolt,” Povich evocatively tells the story of this dramatic turning point through the lives of several participants, showing how personal experiences and cultural shifts led a group of well-mannered, largely apolitical women, raised in the 1940s and 1950s, to stand up for their rights–and what happened after they did. For many, filing the suit was a radicalizing act that empowered them to “find themselves” and stake a claim. Others lost their way in a landscape of opportunities, pressures, discouragements, and hostilities they weren’t prepared to navigate.
With warmth, humor, and perspective, the book also explores why changes in the law did not change everything for today’s young women.

“I haven’t read a Western in years,” I said. “That sounds like fun. I’ll check it out.”
It was perhaps a poor decision to put that little teaser segment at the front of the book so the first thing you see the “hero” do is slice the heroine’s bodice open to bare her breasts to a gang of men as a distraction while he sneaks away.
That’s not merely unlikable. That’s sociopathic.
Good Girls Revolt on Amazon was terrific, and I can’t believe it was cancelled (and shopped around and no other network picked it up!) It couldn’t help but be compared to Mad Men, which likely contributed to its downfall. The first few episodes were a bit weak but it really drew me in and was such a timely statement on feminism then and now. The recent success of Hidden Figures and the Women’s Marches makes me wonder if the network regrets cancelling it I’m glad to see the book on sale and excited to read the full story
Looks like the second in Alissa Johnson’s series “Gift for Guile” is also on sale for .99.
@Julia aka mizzelle, thank you for this! Bought, read and enjoyed the first one. Now on to this one, yay!
A classic Amanda Quick historical Reckless is on sale. It’s 99c at Amazon and Kobo. This was one of my first books when I started reading historical romances. Mostly I remember the heroine having a slight limp, searching for a medieval manuscript and calling the hero her “dragon”. It was a charming read and I snatched it up for that price.
@Emily C yes! The Amazon series was fantastic, I was sick it wasn’t renewed. Thr acting, production values, writing were all top-notch. I’ll have to read this to fill in the missing pieces.
Annabeth Albert’s Treble Maker is .99 on Kobo and Amazon. MM contemporary set in an a capella singing reality competition. If you like Jessica Clare’s reality tv romances, you’ll probably like this series. It’s light, trope-y fun.
Actually there are a lot of romances on sale at Kobo for RT and they seem to be price matched at Amazon
Thank you Marci for the heads up about Reckless. Love Amanda Quick! Happy to add this to my ebook library!
