Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply
Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply by Terry Spear is 99c at Amazon and $1.99 elsewhere! This paranormal romance seems to have all sorts of catnip. It has a park ranger shifter and the heroine is a she-wolf who is a forester AND the leader of her pack. Readers assure this can be read as a standalone, given that it’s number 19 in a series (whoa). They loved the strong heroine, but noted that the romance gets off to a slow start. It has a 3.9-star rating on Gooreads.

Noble Intentions
Noble Intentions by Katie MacAlister is $1.25 at Amazon and $1.99 elsewhere! This is the first book in the Noble series and features a married hero and heroine. (They have a very brief courtship.) Readers were divided on the humor. Some loved the slapstick-esque comedy, while others felt it was too silly for them.
Noble Britton had suffered greatly at the hands of his first wife, and he refused to fall into the same trap again. This time he intended to marry a quiet, biddable woman who would not draw attention to herself or cause scandal. Gillian Leigh’s honest manner and spontaneous laughter attracted him immediately. It mattered little that she was accident-prone; he could provide the structure necessary to guide her.
But unconventional to the tips of her half-American toes―toes that one of them was constantly tripping over―his new bride turned the tables on him, wreaking havoc on his orderly life. And worse, demanding he surrender his heart. Perpetually one step behind his beguiling spouse, Noble suffered a banged-up head, a black eye, and a broken nose before he realized Gillian had healed his soul and proved that their union was no heedless tumble, but the swoon of true love.

The British Table
The British Table by Colman Andrews is $2.99! This cookbook alters traditional British recipes and the cover is making me all sorts of hungry. Readers loved the historical elements discussed prior to each recipe, but others mention that the cookbook is pretty heavy on meat dishes.
The British Table: A New Look at the Traditional Cooking of England, Scotland, and Wales celebrates the best of British cuisine old and new. Drawing on a vast number of sources, both historical and modern, the book includes more than 150 recipes, from traditional regional specialties to modern gastropub reinventions of rustic fare. Dishes like fish pie, braised brisket with pickled walnuts, and a pastry shop full of simple, irresistible desserts have found their way onto modern British menus—delicious reminders of the depth and breadth of Britain’s culinary heritage. The book blends these tradition-based reinventions by some of the finest chefs in England, Scotland, and Wales with forgotten dishes of the past worthy of rediscovery.

“First to Burn” and “The Second Lie” by Anna Richland are 99 cents at Amazon and iTunes (so probably other places, too). Paranormal romance, and so very good!
Fly with Me was pretty uneven for me. The H/h are flawless, perfect specimens of humanity, there’s insta lust and virtually no conflict except for the long distance angle which was resolved pretty quickly.
Spoiler alert: the fighter pilot will not give up his wings.
The entire last half of the book and the ending is devoted to an event which affects the h of the third book. In fact this book and the second seem to be a huge set up for the third and final book in the series which I enjoyed immensely (unrequited love: all of the catnip).
Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply was a DNF for me. I really wanted to like it, but it didn’t feel realistic. Why are the female shifters of the pack bathing in the river in flimsy goddess dresses during a camping trip? Why would the alpha of a pack refuse medical attention for one of her people–from a shifter doctor?
The plot also didn’t hold my interest. The tension was built around small things that didn’t grab me at all, like a park ranger refusing to stay at home and rest when he’s injured (again with the refusing medical treatment) because he’s too grr and badass to take time to heal. This could be an interesting plot point if he wound up getting trapped or letting down other people because he’s injured and feverish, but he spends the day teaching kids about nature (cute, but sadly boring in execution). And, predictably, running into the female alpha he just met the day before. His major struggle is to not drive her away by being too overbearing. She’s super impressed that he doesn’t give in to his own alpha instincts and try to boss her around… which, to me, felt like giving cookies for basic good behavior.
All these things could work in another book where the stakes were clearer. But as it stood, I felt no tension, and I quickly stopped caring about the characters. Maybe it would be better if I’d read the rest of the series, but nothing about the writing grabbed me enough to make me want to bother. Which is sad, because I really liked the book description.
It isn’t a romance, but Believing the Lie by Elizabeth George is on sale for 1.99 (at least on amazon). It is part of her Inspector Lynley series, although I imagine it could be read as a stand-alone. Her books are usually really expensive on kindle (9.99 and up), so if you like British contemporary mysteries, this is worth a look.
@Anne – Believing the Lie is not my favourite EG book. I used to love her, but found that her last few books have really slipped in quality – my (totally unsubstantiated) theory is that she got a new editor who need to edit better! I’m still reading her books in the hopes that they will improve again, but at this point I borrow them from the library rather than buying them.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned in a previous sale post, but The Bone Witch is on sale at Amazon for $1.88. That’s an unusual price, but the premise looks interesting, so it’s going into the TBR pile.
Linda Howard: Dying to Please – 1.99
Linda Howard: Mackenzie’s Heroes [Mackenzie’s Pleasure + Mackenzie’s Magic – 1.99
Eloisa James: Desperate Duchesses – 1.99
Eloisa James: Much Ado About you – 1.99

@The Other Elle: Thanks, grabbing that!
As an aside, upon searching “the bone witch” on Amazon, the first ten or so covers in the results are gorgeous. YA fantasy is killing it in the aesthetics department.
I absolutely LOVED FLY WITH ME. I generally don’t read much military romance – I tend to read more historicals and Cristina-Lauren-type contemporaries – but this book got me totally hooked on it (John Krasinki’s biceps in 13 HOURS don’t hurt, either). Now I’m a total Chanel Cleeton fangirl. I thought it was such a thoughtful and emotional story – everything felt very real. Definitely recommend!
