Fast Track

Fast Track by Julie Garwood is $1.99! This romance is part of her romantic suspense/contemporary romance Buchanan-Renard series. I haven’t read any of Garwood’s contemporaries, but they do come highly recommended. Readers wanted more suspense from the story, but others enjoyed the friends-to-lovers element of the romance.
A corrupt congressman, a mother’s secrets, and a sizzling romance ignite passion and suspense in the new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood.
Cordelia Kane has always been a daddy’s girl—her father raised her alone after her mother died in a car crash when Cordelia was just two years old. So when he has a serious heart attack, Cordelia is devastated, and the emotion is only intensified by the confusion she feels when he reveals the shocking truth about her mother.
Cordelia can’t suppress her curiosity about the woman who gave birth to her, and when she discovers the answers to her questions lie in Sydney, Australia, she travels there to get them.
Hotel magnate Aiden Madison is Cordelia’s best friend’s older brother. He’s oblivious to the fact that she’s had a crush on him for years. When he gets railroaded into taking her along to Sydney on his company jet, he unknowingly puts her life at risk. He’s recently angered a powerful congressman by refusing to purchase overvalued land. Congressman Chambers is not a man to let such an offense slide, and he has the resources to get even and to get what he wants.
In Australia sparks are flying between Cordelia and Aiden, but multiple attempts on Aiden’s life are made while Cordelia is with him, and he realizes he must put a stop to the madness before he loses the thing he values most.

Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is the third book in the Heartbreaker Bay series and can be read as standalone. Readers loved the chemistry between the main couple, but felt the pace of the romance dragged at times. Have you read this one?
There’s no such thing as a little in love…
Elle Wheaton’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer… which should only take a lifetime…
There’s no such thing as a little in lust…
Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco earthquake and he craves her 24/7, but Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him…
There is such a thing as…
As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along…

The Billionaire Bachelor by Jessica Lemmon is $1.99! For the most part, I enjoyed this one and it felt very much like a K-drama with its modern marriage of convenience. But the commitment to the conflict seemed to wane a little bit and had me wondering why the pair still weren’t kissing yet.
Manwhore. That’s what the board of directors-and the tabloids-thinks of billionaire bachelor Reese Crane. Ordinarily he couldn’t care less, but his playboy past is preventing the board from naming him CEO of Crane Hotels. Nothing-and no one-will keep him from his life’s legacy. They want a settled man to lead the company? Then that’s exactly what he’ll give them.
Merina Van Heusen will do anything to get her parents’ funky boutique hotel back-even marry cold-as-ice-but-sexy-as-hell Reese Crane. It’s a simple business contract-six months of marriage, absolute secrecy, and the Van Heusen is all hers again. But when sparks fly between them, their passion quickly moves from the boardroom to the bedroom. And soon Merina is living her worst nightmare: falling in love with her husband . . .

RECOMMENDED: Knit Tight by Annabeth Albert is 99c! This is the fourth book in the Portland Heat series and the other books are also on sale. Elyse loved this book, giving it an A:
I expected to like Knit Tight. I mean, the odds of me not liking a romance featuring a knitwear designer hero are slim. I just didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. It’s a short book — 112 pages — but those pages pack a lot of feels. One scene had me ugly sobbing.
It’s no secret that Portland, Oregon, has some of best restaurants, shops, and cafés in the country. But it’s the hard-working men who serve it all up that keep us coming back for more…
One of Portland’s hottest young baristas, Brady is famous for his java-topping flair, turning a regular cup of joe into a work of art. Every Wednesday—aka “Knit Night”—hordes of women and their needles descend on the coffeehouse, and Brady’s feeling the heat. Into the fray walks a tall, dark, and distractingly handsome stranger from New York. His name is Evren, and he’s the sexy nephew of Brady’s sweetest customer, the owner of the yarn shop down the street. He’s also got a killer smile, confident air, and masculine charm that’s tying Brady’s stomach in knots. The smitten barista can’t wait to see him at the next week’s gathering. But when he tries to ask Evren out, his plans unravel faster than an unfinished edge. If Brady hopes to warm up more than Evren’s coffee, he’ll have to find a way to untangle their feelings, get out of the friend zone, and form a close-knit bond that’s bound to last a lifetime…Add to Goodreads To-Read List →

I will share the recommendation for “Knit Tight,” I bought it based on rec here and really liked it.
Evren? His name is… Evren?
One-Clicked Knit Tight.
I really need to stop coming here. You’re killing my book budget.
Love the name Evren. Makes me think of an Evan who only wears chevron patterns.
How I wish that Julie Garwood would go back to writing historical romance. Her contemporary books just don’t come close. 🙁
His name is Evren, but it makes sense as he is Turkish (? Something in that region), and it’s not just an author having fun with adding letters to names. I didn’t love Knit Tight on the first read as much as I wanted to, but upon a second read it definitely improved for me (it was probably the mood I was in around Christmas time that was to blame). Highly recommend Annabeth Albert’s books, they’re favorites of mine.
@Katie Lynn How cool to know his name has a foreign-language root! (Well, foreign to anyone not Turkish.) I really like it when English-language romance novelists step out of the norm with names and backgrounds, and when one of the characters is of an ethnicity other than those we’re used to seeing in fiction (i.e. American and British). Give me more contemporaries with Japanese and Turkish heroes! 🙂
edit to add: I should’ve said “background” instead of “ethnicity.” Teach me not to proof before I post.
Knit Tight is probably my favorite of the Portland Heat series. But warning, like many knitting romances, there is cancer in this one (not the h/h) and lots of feelz.
.99 cents and knitting? One-click! Sadly it goes to the bottom of the TBR pile, as I have 6 library books (and two RITA reviews!) to get to first.
I’ll take an Evren over another Aiden/Aidan. (Does the Aiden spelling bother anyone else? To me, it’s like seeing ‘Micheal’ – I keep mentally correcting to the traditional spelling.)
I do have to say I think there was something off about “Accidentally on Purpose” by Shalvis. It was really weird because there was almost a complete disconnect from the previous books, where the main characters of “Accidentally” almost had more tension in those books than in their book. It was almost like a time jump, not referencing their issues from the other books at all, it really annoyed me. It was also lacking in other ways, sometimes it was slow, sometimes it was fast, then all the sudden it was just over. I was really disappointed because it seemed like it would be great from the previous books, but something was just missing.
I loved knit tight. I read very few contemporaries these days, and it made me regret that.
@Olivia, your take on Accidentally on Purpose is interesting. I’ve really enjoyed Shalvis in the past, and looked forward to this series. The first two stories were meh for me, but Elle and Archer’s story was the one I most looked forward to based on their interactions in the earlier books. I got my hands on this one a few weeks ago, and I just can’t get into it. I ended up kind of skimming it, and I’m not compelled to do anything more. I don’t know if this series is a miss for me, or if I’ve moved on from Shalvis, or what.
@NancyC, same! I was really looking forward to it and it was just “eh”. The others I enjoyed, but yes, wasn’t super into. I’m also wondering if it’s just me, I do seem to look for books these days that have more plot than meet cute character development, and Shalvis’s books that have both, the extra plot always seems rushed (or maybe that’s not even the right word, maybe forced?). I used to get really excited when she had a new book, but now, not so much. Maybe it’s me or maybe she has too many going on at once, she seems to be chugging them out pretty fast these days.
Not a fan of The Bachelor Billionaire – first it features an evil ex-girlfriend who ——-spoiler——–suddenly does a complete 180 and becomes a wonderful person at the end with no explanation – the character is less a character and more a plot device to be used as needed to move the story forward. Second I felt there was not nearly enough grovel from the hero at the end – he did not do enough to be redeemed.
