Wicked Becomes You
Wicked Becomes You by Meredith Duran is $3.99! This is a standalone historical romance. Readers admit this isn’t their favorite of Duran’s books and the prologue confused several people. But others really enjoyed the tension between the hero and heroine.
She’s been burned not once but twice by London’s so-called gentlemen . . .
Gwen Maudsley is pretty enough to be popular, and plenty wealthy, too. But what she’s best known and loved for is being so very, very nice. When a cad jilts her at the altar—again—the scandal has her outraged friends calling for blood. Only Gwen has a different plan. If nice no longer works for her, then it’s time to learn to be naughty. Happily, she knows the perfect tutor—Alexander Ramsey, her late brother’s best friend and a notorious rogue.
So why won’t a confirmed scoundrel let her be as bad as she wants to be?
Unbeknownst to Gwen, Alex’s aloof demeanor veils his deepest unspoken desire. He has no wish to see her change, nor to tempt himself with her presence when his own secrets make any future between them impossible. But on a wild romp from Paris to the Riviera, their friendship gives way to something hotter, darker, and altogether more dangerous. With Alex’s past and Gwen’s newly unleashed wildness on a collision course, Gwen must convince Alex that his wickedest intentions are exactly what she needs.Add to Goodreads To-Read List →

Hunted
Hunted by Elizabeth Heiter is $1.99! Elyse says, “The first book in The Profiler series introduces us to Evelyn Baine, an FBI agent who hunts serial killers while trying to solve a mystery from her past. The suspense is creepy (think Criminal Minds), but Heiter adds a romantic subplot to balance it out. I love that Evelyn totally misses all the signals her hot Hostage Rescue Team member is giving her about how much he’s crushing on her.”
Terror stalks a small Virginia town.
FBI rising star, criminal profiler Evelyn Baine, knows how to think like a serial killer. But she’s never chased anyone like the Bakersville Burier, who hunts young women and displays them, half-buried, deep in the woods. As the body count climbs, Evelyn’s relentless pursuit of the killer puts her career – and her life – at risk. And the evil lurking in the Burier’s mind may be more than even she can unravel.
Terror is closer than she thinks.
The Bakersville Burier knows he’s got an FBI profiler on his trail. He knows who she is and where to find her. And he’s biding his time, because he’s planned a special punishment for Evelyn. She may have tracked other killers, but he vows to make this her last chase. This time it’s her turn to be hunted!

Walk on Earth a Stranger
Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and isn’t being price-matched just yet. This is a fantasy YA novel set during the Gold Rush with a heroine who can sense gold. Readers say the fantasy is light and this reads more historical fiction. But many love the “heroine disguised as a boy” trope. Have you read this?
The first book in a new trilogy from acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Rae Carson. A young woman with the magical ability to sense the presence of gold must flee her home, taking her on a sweeping and dangerous journey across Gold Rush–era America.
Lee Westfall has a secret. She can sense the presence of gold in the world around her. Veins deep beneath the earth, pebbles in the river, nuggets dug up from the forest floor. The buzz of gold means warmth and life and home—until everything is ripped away by a man who wants to control her. Left with nothing, Lee disguises herself as a boy and takes to the trail across the country. Gold was discovered in California, and where else could such a magical girl find herself, find safety? Rae Carson, author of the acclaimed Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy, dazzles with this new fantasy that subverts both our own history and familiar fantasy tropes.

The Playboy Next Door
The Playboy Next Door by Christina Tetreault is 99c at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! This is a contemporary romance set on the North Shore of Massachusetts and is the third book in a series. You can grab all four books for less than $7 and the first book is FREE! Readers recommend this for fans of cute contemporaries, but some say they wanted more conflict between the hero and heroine.
After a blind date stands her up, Catrina Striker stops in O’Leary’s Pub for a sandwich, nothing else. Then Tony Bates, North Salem’s resident playboy, sits down next to her and destiny takes over. Cat knows all about Tony’s reputation, but that doesn’t stop her from doing something she’s never done before: invite him back to her apartment.
Tony Bates has always looked at Catrina as nothing but his buddy’s little sister, until a chance encounter one summer night changes all that.
Since the sudden death of his college sweetheart, Tony has kept all his relationships casual and fun. Everyone knows that, which is why Cat and Tony agree to keep their involvement a secret rather than risk Tony’s friendship with her brother. However, what starts out as a secret fling soon becomes much more, and Tony must decide if he’s ready to risk his heart again or lose the woman who completes him.

Let me flail for a second! Walk on Earth a Stranger is fantastic. The second book in the trilogy is already out and part 3 will be published in September.
Rae Carson’s first trilogy, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, is my favorite YA series ever. That’s more fantasy-based, with wizards and magic.
I am a huge fan of this new trilogy because I was born in northern California and the Gold Rush country is familiar to me. It’s not an overused historical setting for this genre and Lee is an awesome heroine. Lots of action and adventure on her journey west. I devoured both of these in single sittings. So good!
I’m a big fan of Rae Carson (I throw the Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy and its side novellas at EVERYBODY), but I’m a little torn on whether to recommend Walk on Earth a Stranger. The book itself is really solid – you may think it’s pulling a “not like the other girls” at the beginning but it’s absolutely not and the relationships between women and how they help each other grow become key. It’s episodic but the episodes are really tense in different ways and well-researched as far as I can tell, and I think that while it’s episodic it still manages to build really well. The whole cast is well-written and appealing (or appalling, for the villains).
The main reason I’m hesitant to recommend it fully is because the trilogy isn’t finished yet. The second book did a lot of things I admired but felt a lot less narratively focused and didn’t do as well by a lot of its supporting characters. It also left me kind of confused as to where, precisely, the last book is going to go. I still have book three preordered, and there’s a good chance that book three will make book two stronger in retrospect (I was a bit dissatisfied with book 2 of Girl of Fire and Thorns when I first read it, but it’s really a perfect book for the overall character arcs of the trilogy). But it’s something to keep in mind.
All that said, if you’re just interested in the story of a girl finding out how to both be herself and become part of a community, or like a dangerous adventure story, or like seeing YA tropes (not like the other girls, love triangles) subverted, or love good character growth – yeah, definitely pick up Walk on Earth a Stranger.
I’ve seen a book from the Fly Me to the Moon series (by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner) in a previous Books on Sale post. Wanted to mention that the first book in the series – Star Dust – is currently free on Amazon! Haven’t checked other sites.
“Burn For Me” is one of my favorite books by Ilona Andrews! Their characters are so real and engaging and the story line is great. Can’t say enough about it!
