  • Destiny’s Captive

    Destiny’s Captive by Beverly Jenkins

Destiny’s Embrace by Beverly Jenkins is $1.99! Jenkins is this year’s RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement awardee! Carrie read this one and gave it a B, saying that she wished she had read the previous books in the trilogy, but she loved the sense of place:

I loved how physical the world of the story feels – the blue sea in Cuba, the dresses, the parties, the dirt on the segregated train, the horses, and the discussions about American versus Cuban food.

In national bestselling author Beverly Jenkins’ Destiny series, the Yates men play hard and live hard. And when they find that special woman, they fall hard . . .

Noah Yates fully believes in the joys of a happy family and a good wife. But that’s not the life for him. No, he would much rather sail the wild seas in search of adventure, not tied down. But then the unthinkable happens . . . he finds himself literally tied down. To a bed. By a woman.

And Pilar isn’t just an ordinary woman. She’s descended from pirates. And after giving him one of the worst nights of his life, she steals his ship! Now Noah is on the hunt, and he’ll stop at nothing to find this extraordinary woman . . . and make her his.

  • Do You Want to Start a Scandal

Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare

RECOMMENDEDDo You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This book is nominated for a 2017 RITA® in the Short Historical Romance category. Elyse loved this book:

I loved Do You Want to Start a Scandal. It’s funny, it’s sexy and it’s got some Clue-like shenanigans going on. If you have better self control than I do, I recommend savoring this book rather than powering through in one sitting (good luck).

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library. Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit . . . and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?

  • Summer is for Lovers

Summer is for Lovers by Jennifer McQuiston

RECOMMENDEDSummer is for Lovers by Jennifer McQuiston is $2.99! This is the book two in the Second Sons series and the third book is also on sale. Elyse enjoyed this one and found it better than the previous book in the series. It earned an A grade:

I recommend Summer is for Lovers as a break from the ballrooms of London scene in historicals, and as a way of reliving the best parts of summer vacation—rescuing a handsome Simon Baker look-alike from the ocean and then making out with him.

His heart is unavailable. Luckily, her interest lies in the rest of him…

Though she was just a girl when they first met, Caroline Tolbertson’s infatuation with David Cameron remains undimmed. Now fate has brought the handsome Scotsman back to Brighton for what promises to be an unforgettable summer. Soon, Caroline will have to choose a husband, but for now she is free to indulge her curiosity in things of a passionate nature.

That is, if David will agree to teach her.

Past mistakes have convinced David he’ll make a terrible husband, though he’ll gladly help the unconventional Caroline find a suitor. Unfortunately, she has something more scandalous in mind. As the contenders for her hand begin to line up, her future seems assured…provided David can do the honorable thing and let them have her.

When a spirited young woman is determined to break Society’s rules, al a gentleman can do is lend a hand…or more.

  • Sins of a Wicked Princess

Sins of a Wicked Princess by Anna Randol

Sins of a Wicked Princess by Anna Randol is $1.99! This is a historical romance with a spy and a princess, class differences, and a bit of a forbidden romance. Some readers found the heroine was getting pretty close to being TSTL (too stupid to live), but others liked the romantic chemistry. This is the third book in the Sinners Trio. It can be read as a standalone, but if you don’t want to read out of order, all three books are available for less than $5.

In the scorching finale of Anna Randol’s wickedly tempting Trio series, the Wraith takes on a mission—and a princess—he’ll never forget…

Ian Maddox, aka the Wraith, is happy to leave his life as a spy— as soon as he discovers who’s been trying to kill his friends. All clues lead him to the bedroom of an exiled princess. Yet Princess Juliana isn’t the simpering royal he expects, and this irresistible beauty agrees to give him the information he seeks…for a price.

Princess Juliana has never cowered—not even as she fled her burning castle in the midst of a rebellion—so she won’t tremble before the darkly charismatic man who appears in her bedchamber and holds a knife to her throat. Instead, she bargains with the infamous spy to help her retrieve sensitive documents and restore her kingdom. But Juliana quickly finds that Ian is no humble servant, and she never imagines that lessons in thievery will lead to schooling in seduction.

  1. Ren Benton says:

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase is $1.99. It is a much-hyped book that made me cringe a lot until Ms. Chase taught me to trust that she knows how to kick bad writing’s ass. For example, the obvious Chapter 1 ploy to make the lady more likable before she even appears by telling us, for no reason at all, about an unladylike skill she possesses… but instead of never mentioning it again, it turns out to be super relevant to the plot. Also, there is a Big Misunderstanding based on third-party manipulation plus bonus hero dumbassery… but instead of doubling down on said dumbassery when confronted with the gargantuan flaw in his “logic,” he says, “I made a mistake,” AND THEY MOVE ON instead of circling the same drain for the next 200 pages. It’s just one delightful “here, let me show you how it should be done” after another. 11/10 squees, from someone stingy with squee dispensing.

My wishlist also served up Driven to Distraction (Lovestruck Librarians) by Olivia Dade for $2.99 (down from $3.99).

Constance Chen is not the demure kind of librarian. Sure, her high-horsepower ride is Big Bertha the Bookmobile, but Con swears a blue streak, does her own home improvement, and wears steel-toed boots. She has a tight circle of friends, a demanding, beloved sprawl of a Chinese-American family, and a strict hookups-only policy when it comes to men. Her life is just how she wants it. Except for one maddeningly sexy footnote.

Sam Wolcott, her friend’s baby brother and the library’s IT star, has been throwing sparks with Con since he moved to town. To everybody else, he’s a thoughtful, sensitive sweetheart. To Con, he’s a cantankerous pedant, because if they don’t fight nonstop their clothes will spontaneously combust. Sam needs a commitment Con won’t–can’t–give. And neither of them will chance their hard-won bonds for pure lust.

Too bad Con and Sam have a whole week in a very tiny, very private space to sustain their dumb arguments. Alone. What happens in the Bookmobile might take their resistance right out of circulation . . .

Late entry in a series, but a girl can dream it won’t be a dump for previous book leftovers.

  2. Michelle says:

It looks like Alice Clayton’s Cream of the Crop is still $2.99 on Kindle. I thought it was a Daily Deal yesterday only, but if you meant to grab it, but didn’t you still can!

  3. Gemma says:

Woot! Tessa Dare’s book is on sale for Canadians too. I clicked the link, thinking it probably wouldn’t be (Avon books are rarely on sale for us Canucks), but it was! *happy dance*

  4. Ainsley says:

Heather Hiestand, IF HAD YOU is on sale for $.99! London in 1920’s. SQUEE!!!!

  5. Rebecca says:

Good grief, the hero of the Jennifer McQuiston book is named David Cameron? And no one caught that? I think fiction about real people is squicky, but I can just about wrap my head around the idea that people might find the likes of Justin Trudeau attractive. But…David Cameron? Really? (Shudders and hopes no pigs appear anywhere in the novel.)

  6. Hazel says:

    @Rebecca: Talk about a passion-killer!!

  7. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Rebecca said exactly what I came here to say. Assuming the book was in draft form any time in past seven years, surely that name could have been changed! It may sound petty, but I absolutely could not read that book–especially any “hot” scenes–I’d be thinking of the doughy former PM the whole time. Blech!

/I will ask for forgiveness if the book is part of a series and this character received his name many years ago before it was a “name”. Either way, I couldn’t read it.

  8. M & M says:

@Rebecca and @ Hazel: A big nope from me too, just based on the name. I can picture it now, David Cameron in tight breeches and a white, unbuttoned shirt. His hair is blowing in the wind, and he is giving you that come-hither look. But wait, who’s that in the background, you ask? It’s his sequel-baiting best friend, George Osborne! England, where the politicians are shifty, and the pigs are nervous!

  9. Lizzy says:

Looks like I was not alone in reading David Cameron with scrunchy eyebrows. Do You Want to Start a Scandal was great, though. Funny, fluffy Tessa Dare perfection.

  10. kkw says:

I admit I found the David Cameron thing distressing, but iirc the author actually apologized in the comments on another post here for being so politically unaware, plus I’m pretty sure she was busy volunteering fighting Ebola or some such ridiculously compelling excuse.
The editing team at Avon, on the other hand, has a lot to answer for.

  11. M & M says:

@kkw: oh, I did not know that. All joking aside, I could probably mentally bleep out his name, and give the book a chance. I’ve done that with books where characters have the same name as people I know in real life. Sometimes I even change their names! 😉

  12. Mara says:

The first three Immortals After Dark books are on sale (from Kresley Cole)– I snapped up all but the first two books when they did that mega sale a year or so ago, so I was happy to complete my collection!

  13. YotaArmai says:

I made the mistake of binge reading all the Tessa Dare books I own (almost all of them) in one spinster of spindle cove filled fortnight. It was a bit like eating too much cake in one sittting. Delicious but you regret the sugar hangover afterwards

Still I love her books. Everytime a new one comes out I say I will have restraint, but I end up renewing my subscription in the bad decisions book club.

  14. Kim W. says:

I hate to say this because I love Tessa Dare, but I’ve heard a hard time getting into her romances since the Spindle Cove series. I enjoyed Scandal much more than (for example) Say Yes to the Marquess, but I feel like I want her newer books to feel just like 10% more historically accurate or weighty. I know, that sounds ridiculous given the comparison to Spindle Cove, but still.

  15. Vivi12 says:

Alas I couldn’t follow Elyse’s advice and savor Do You Want to Start a Scandal – bought it yesterday afternoon and finished it this morning! Super sweet and fun.

  16. Crysta says:

@Ren Benton yessss Lord of Scoundrels… so delicious.

My mom reads contemporaries (I got her on romance by suggesting that they’re like Hallmark movies in book form) but we were recently stuck on a long trip and she didn’t have time to get to the bookstore, so I loaned her my copy of Start a Scandal and she TORE through it. I’m quite the hero. 🙂

  17. Jacqueline says:

Okay, I came out to have a good time and honestly I’m feeling so attacked right now.

YALL GOT ALLLLLLL HISTORICAL ROMANCE DEALS ON HERE YOU OFFICIALLY TARGETING MY FANGIRL ASS AND I LOVE YOU HELLA HARD FOR IT!

I fight so hard to not buy any more historicals because my YouTube channel can NOT just turn into nothing but historical reviews (even though omg it so could if I let it.)

I’m getting a bit better at finding contemporaries but paranormals, man. It’s a PAIN to find good paranormals and science fiction that fit my catnip.

I prefer internal conflict driven stories, and those two subgenres are the exact opposite of that.
