Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency Box Set
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency Box Set by Douglas Adams is $1.99! This set collects books one and two of the Dirk Gently series. We recently ran a guest review of the BBC series and many of you mentioned in the comments how much you love the books.
Dirk Gently is a detective – well, a sort of detective. There is a long and honourable tradition of great detectives and Dirk Gently does not belong to it. Sherlock Holmes observed that once you have eliminated the impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Dirk Gently, however, does not like to eliminate the impossible.
In Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency a simple search for a missing cat reveals two ghosts, a dodo, an Electric Monk, the devastating secret that lies behind the whole of human history and threatens to bring it to a premature close, and, finally, the utterly terrifying reason why Richard MacDuff has had a sofa stuck on his stairs for three weeks.
As The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul opens a passenger check-in desk at Terminal Two, Heathrow Airport, shoots up through the roof engulfed in a ball of orange flame. The usual people try to claim responsibility. However, no rational cause can be found for the explosion – it was simply designated an act of God. But, thinks Dirk Gently, which God? And why? What God would be hanging around Terminal Two of Heathrow Airport trying to catch the 15.37 to Oslo?
What do a dead cat, a computer whizz-kid, an electric monk, quantum mechanics, a chronologit over 200 years old, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and pizza have in common? Apparently not much, until Dirk Gently begins his investigation.

Cry Wolf
RECOMMENDED: Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs is $2.99! Sarah really enjoyed this book and the next one. Here’s what she said:
The balance of harmony is cast into characters with instinctive and pre-determined roles – Alphas and Omegas are born the way they are, even as humans prior to being changed in to werewolves – and the world built around that concept creates a new set of questions about why and how effective romance relationships work, and how enduring couples through a continuing series maintain their attraction for readers.
Now Briggs begins an extraordinary new series set in Mercy Thompson’s world—but with rules of its own.
INTRODUCING THE ALPHA AND OMEGA NOVELS…
Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

Wicked Enchantment
Wicked Enchantment by Anya Bast is $2.99! This is the first book in the Dark Magick series and I had mixed feelings about this one. I loved the world-building of the fae courts, but both the hero and heroine were rather flat as characters. I did love the second book more than the first though, so the series does get a bit better. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
Being spellbound has its charms…
When you’re half-incubus, your reputation precedes you.
All eyes are on Gabriel Mac Braire the day he makes his first appearance in the Seelie Court, including those of Aislinn Finvarra. Despite deep bitterness over her last failed relationship, Aislinn cannot help but be curious about the half incubus who is known to possess dark magick, both lethal and sexual in nature. Rumors abound of the women who have become enslaved to his irresistible charms.
So when the Summer Queen of the fae orders Aislinn herself to act as his guide in the court, she is understandably on guard. She’s fallen under the spell of far less persuasive men before. In addition, Gabriel might be more than he seems, and his true mission is far from innocent.
This time, Aislinn must protect not only her heart, but her very life.

Anybody know what is going on with Anya Bast? I miss her books! I know she had breast cancer, but her last post several years ago said she was cancer free. I hope she comes back and writes some more!
@Make Kay: I was wondering the same thing. I did some digging after putting together the post, but I couldn’t find anything. Her Twitter account is gone, though she does post irregularly on her Facebook page.
@Amanda, yeah, every year or so I google her and Nita Abrams. My god, would I love for Nita Abrams to start writing again!! Lovely Napoleonic spy romances
Mary Jo Putney’s Silk and Shadows is free on Amazon. I read this one a while back and loving it. It’s old skool goodness.
DRAGO–
Editing errors? Hmmm. I am a person easily irritated by editing errors. What to do? What to do?
99 cents?

The Patricia Briggs one is good, but that isn’t my favorite of the series. There’s a sort of prequel short story from a collection (which I have but can’t remember the name … On the Prowl, perhaps?) which tells how the h/h meet.
@ Todd, yup it’s On the Prowl, and it’s a direct prequel about Anna and Charles meeting.
What I Didn’t Say by Keary Taylor is $1 at amazon. It’s a YA, so very angsty, but I really enjoyed it. The hero is in an accident and loses his ability to speak, it was pretty good from what I recall.
The first 3 Portland Heat novellas by Annabeth Albert are together in Bundled Up for $.99 on amazon. The fourth one, Knit Tight (so much knitting!) and the fifth, Wrapped Together (practically stationary porn) are also each $.99. I ADORE this series.
Seven of Susanna Kearsley’s novels are today’s Big Deal at Amazon UK: Mariana, The Rose Garden, The Firebird, Sophia’s Secret, Every Secret Thing, When Splendour Falls and Named of the Dragon are all £1.09.
That Patricia Briggs prequel, called Alpha and Omega (?) is a very good piece of writing. I reread it every couple of years. I’d recommend reading it before Cry Wolf. I think the collection of stories is On The Prowl. As often happens, the other stories didn’t impress me as much.
