Indiscreet

Indiscreet by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in the Horseman Trilogy. Readers call this a “fluffy Regency” and found the romance to be pretty darn sweet. However, sound found the romance a bit slow going at times. This is also a rerelease, as the original book was published in 1997.
In the country visiting his twin brother, Viscount Rawleigh longs for a little diversion and beautiful young widow Catherine Winters seems like easy prey. But Rex’s target is a lady of virtue, and when she roundly rejects his improper proposal to become his mistress, Rex finds himself faced with a delectable challenge.
Catherine knows she must fight the indecent feelings the Viscount arouses within her—feelings that bring to life a past she had sought to escape—even as the handsome lord refuses to relent in his amorous attentions.
But even though she knows one kiss could bring her to ruin, temptation proves an insurmountable foe—and Catherine can not ignore the beating of her treacherous heart…

His Wicked Reputation by Madeline Hunter is $1.99! This is the first book in her Wicked Trilogy and involves a hero and heroine with a very antagonistic relationship, which many readers loved. However, some readers mentioned there was more telling than showing. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
Gareth Fitzallen is celebrated for four things: his handsome face, his notable charm, his aristocratic connections, and an ability to give the kind of pleasure that has women begging for more. Normally he bestows his talents on experienced, worldly women. But when he heads to Langdon’s End to restore a property he inherited—and to investigate a massive art theft—he lays plans to seduce a most unlikely lady.
Eva Russell lives a spinster’s life of precarious finances and limited dreams while clinging to her family’s old gentry status. She supports herself by copying paintings while she plots to marry her lovely sister to a well-established man. Everyone warns her of Gareth’s reputation, and advises her to lock her sister away. Only it is not her sister Gareth desires. One look, and she knows he is trouble. One kiss, however, proves she is no match for this master of seduction.

Grabby hands at the Meredith Duran, and I didn’t even read the description. The best thing about her is her heroines do tend to be more “challenging” than some readers are comfortable with.
A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal is awesome, and so is Indiscreet. I seem to remember that people have more trouble with “A Lady’s…” hero, but I liked how he was honest about what he wanted in life — and loved him being a composer/gifted musician!
Indiscreet is very sweet, and the heroine forges a good life for herself despite tragedy. The hero is a bit of a clueless d*ck at the start, but he grows. It’s interesting to think that the trilogy (there’s also two other books about four soldier friends) didn’t touch upon war trauma at all, the four heroes are all fine after the Napoleonic wars campaigns, but then some 20 years later MB wrote about the damaged former soldiers of her ‘Survivors club’ series, showing more awareness of PSTD and other ills.
For less than a cup of coffee at Philz, you can’t go wrong with these two.
Loretta Chases’s Miss Wonderful is $2.99 at amazon.
I LOVE A Lady’s Lessons in Scandal. It pushes all the right buttons for me. As for Nell being “prickly,” I thought she was pretty much justified in her prickliness.
