I’ve been looking for a book that I read about 10 years ago. It is set in England in a rather large time frame. It begins with the heroine falling in love with one of her brothers’ friends. Unfortunately, there is a war (WWI or WWII – can’t remember which) and they all go off to war. Her brothers pass away and the hero comes back scarred. The hero and heroine hook up, but he doesn’t believe she loves him so he leaves. She meets another guy and gets married, but is already pregnant with the hero’s baby.
I don’t remember when her husband dies, but the husband saves the hero in his last moments. The hero comes back to find the heroine and finds out his daughter has passed due to disease.
I can’t remember what happens after this part, but would love to be able to find this book again!
This may be more historical fiction than romance, judging by the description. But hopefully there’s an HEA either way.
I don’t know what it is, but that sounds depressing. I hope there’s a happy ending.

Would this be Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole If so, it was terribly good.
This isn’t the book, but if anyone’s in the mood for WWI to WWII historical romance set in England, Random Harvest is great. It starts between the wars, takes us back to the post-Armistice period in flashbacks, and ends on the cusp of WWII, with a lot of romance and romantic angst in between.
