This HaBO request is from Clo. Trigger warning for the below description:
Heroine is in a cabin in woods when wounded hero comes across it and is about to leave because she is either scared of him or aggressive (?) until he sees the necklace she’s wearing. It was his grandmother’s, which convinces him to stay. His grandmother died in a fire (he knew this) and the heroine was close with her.
Hero is super injured and heroine takes care of him. He wants to go back, but has been placed on leave to heal and the heroine is given task to be his caretaker. Eventually they sleep together and the hero is heroine’s first consensual partner. Their first time is magical in a moonlit pond in the forest.
Heroine confides in hero that she was raped repeatedly by Colombian (might be wrong on nationality here?) drug lord, who killed her anthropologist/minister father and younger brother when she was like 13 or something. The drug lord killed his wife and took her as his new wife where she was subject to repeat violation. Flash forward and she ends up explaining that she escaped and her psycho oppressor might still be looking for her. Oh and she’s in witness protection!
Our hero is handily also in touch with some of his friends, who are all also special ops with fantastic special oppy skills. He calls them in to keep the heroine safe and to keep tabs on this nutter rapist.
I can’t remember what happens here except their base/cabin is attacked and the heroine is found in stables (I think) and dragged back to her rapist.
Hero eventually saves her after he gets beaten up…I can’t remember much more.
Random facts: There’s a nearby village, heroine’s car is a piece of shit that breaks down at some point and it might be red(?), the local men only have eyes for heroine, and the grandmother’s house was burned down.
Please, please help me. This book is by an author whose other books I have also read and loved, but this is randomly the only book I remember!
Wow.

The premise sounds similar to The Asset by Anna del Mar, but I can’t be sure about the details.
Complete guess here, but could it be a Cherry Adair book?
This was sounding so familiar at first, but it was reminding me of one with a medieval European setting, so…nope.
It does seem sort of like a Cherry Adair, but not any I’ve read.
Probably not this one, but Texas Baby Sanctuary by Linda Conrad?
Could this be one of Suzanne Brockmann? The plot sounds familiar.
I am in agreement that it is The Asset by Anna del Mar. I love this book and it’s equal the stranger. One of the things that I really liked was The way but different wounds from war were handled. There wasn’t The normal PTSD or horrific scars that I would see A lot of and books like this. I mean the main characters crew was made of former soldiers with a Marriott of injuries. There was one guy who had a brain injury and sometimes randomly he would just start singing or saying weird things. Oops, this almost turn into a review of the book.
I love being blind , Using dictate, and not being able to find the edit button for my previous comment. LOL it sounded OK to me!
I was thinking Elizabeth Lowell for the author
Maybe a Pamela Clair?
