Opening Up

RECOMMENDED: Opening Up by Lauren Dane is $2.99! This is the first book in the Ink & Chrome erotic contemporary series. Elyse gave the book an A-:
First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous the cover of Opening Up is. I’d hang that on my wall. I really would. But the contents of the book are just as lovely.
Still this book was incredibly sexy and often very funny. It made me duck out on the coworker I was traveling with: “I’d love to go to TGI Fridays with you, but PJ and Asa have a new leather cane they’ve been dying to try out and also I need to know how his weenus piercing feels without a condom, so I’m gonna just head up to my room, ‘kay, thanks.”
The men of the Twisted Steel custom motorcycle shop are great with their hands… and they’re not afraid to get dirty.
PJ is exactly the kind of woman Twisted Steel owner Asa Barrons doesn’t need. The last thing he wants to do is mix business with pleasure, and PJ has some of the best custom detailing he’s ever seen. But the chemistry between them won’t be denied, and soon he’s introducing her to a whole new world in the bedroom, pushing her far beyond anything she’s ever experienced. PJ finds she can’t get enough, but how far is too far before he consumes her completely?

Wilder by Rebecca Yarros is 99c! I was really excited about this book during September’s Hide Your Wallet. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads, and readers loved the slow burn of the romance. However, some felt the quick read was a bit slow at times.
He’s Paxton Wilder.
Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.
Five time X Games medalist.
The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.
He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.
But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.
Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone is $2.99! This is a recommended urban fantasy and many of my friends loved it. Reviewers on Goodreads really enjoyed the badass heroine, but some felt it had “first book syndrome” with too much stuff going on to set up the plot. Right now, all five books in the series are on sale for $2.99 each!
A god has died, and it’s up to Tara, first-year associate in the international necromantic firm of Kelethres, Albrecht, and Ao, to bring Him back to life before His city falls apart.
Her client is Kos, recently deceased fire god of the city of Alt Coulumb. Without Him, the metropolis’s steam generators will shut down, its trains will cease running, and its four million citizens will riot.
Tara’s job: resurrect Kos before chaos sets in. Her only help: Abelard, a chain-smoking priest of the dead god, who’s having an understandable crisis of faith.
When Tara and Abelard discover that Kos was murdered, they have to make a case in Alt Coulumb’s courts—and their quest for the truth endangers their partnership, their lives, and Alt Coulumb’s slim hope of survival.
Set in a phenomenally built world in which justice is a collective force bestowed on a few, craftsmen fly on lightning bolts, and gargoyles can rule cities, Three Parts Dead introduces readers to an ethical landscape in which the line between right and wrong blurs.

Darkest Flame by Donna Grant is $2.99! This is a paranormal romance with a dragon hero and an MI5 agent heroine. Some readers were a little annoyed at the hero and his Alpha-ness, but others liked the action blended in with the romance. Have you read this?
The Dark Kings have fought for centuries to preserve their dragon magic. But one of the most powerful warriors of his kind will be put to the ultimate test. Is he strong enough to resist his greatest temptations? Or will he be forced to surrender—body and soul?
Denae Lacroix is a beautiful MI5 agent on a deadly mission. Sent to the Scottish Highlands to spy on the mysterious Dreagan Industries, she discovers too late that she’s been set up—as human bait. She is an irresistible lure for a man who has not seen or touched a woman for centuries. He is a man with a destiny—and a desire—that could destroy them both…
It’s been twelve hundred years since Kellan has walked among humans—and there’s no denying the erotically charged attraction he feels for Denae. But as a Dragon King, he is sworn to protect his secrets. Yet the closer he gets to this smart, ravishing woman, the more her life is in danger. All it takes is one reckless kiss to unleash a flood of desire, the fury of dragons… and the fiercest enemy of all.

Oh, and you all should pick up Opening Up.
Also Cat Sebastian’s new book ‘The Lawrence Browne Affair’ was released today (it’s historical m/m) for only $1.99.
For the fantasy lovers amongst the Bitchery, I can definitely endorse the Gladstone series. 😀 I’ve read Three Parts Dead, it’s awesome.
Elizabeth Boyle’s Knave of Hearts is $0.99! I was so excited that I almost squealed.
Argh, on Kobo UK you can also order the boxset of the first five craft books for £6. That’s cheaper than buying 2-5 separately, but then I’d have two copies of 1 and I’d have to wait until March to read the others. #VirtualBookshelfProblems
I have tried to read Three Parts Dead. It is VERY dense and weirdly dry. The kind of book you need to read with your full concentration, no distractions, or you’ll be rereading pages over and over to try to get them to stick. Doesn’t make it a bad book, just not as easy a read for me as others.
Amanda, regarding the Lauren Dane book…a weenus is th loose skin at the end of your elbow joint so that wouldn’t really need condom in any situation I could imagine. Lol.
Ok, but why would you pierce your elbow skin? And wouldn’t that catch on your sleeves? Like, every time? Talk about awkward.
Oh, wait, he probably only wears short-sleeved t-shirts and wife beaters to better accentuate his muscles and hot bod. Amiright?
Max Gladstone’s serial Bookburners written with Mur Lafferty, Brian Francis Slattery, and Margaret Dunlap just published in compiled form, and the ebook is listed for $1.99 right now.
The sixth Craft Sequence novel, The Ruin of Angels (newly retitled from Six Feet Over?) is also showing up as a pre-order for $2.99, publishing in September.
While I was out doubling my book purchases for February, I also noticed a 7-book bundle Gears & Goggles selling at Amazon for 99 cents. Among the included title are Bec McMaster’s Mission: Improper (the first in her new London Steampunk sequence The Blueblood Conspiracy) and Susan Kaye Quinn’s Third Daughter, which I know has been covered at SBTB.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! *immediately rushes off to do a Gladstone series buy because the Craftverse series be awesome af like *
Maybe I’m alone in this but I was not a big fan of Opening Up. There was way too damn much going on, the heroine’s very traumatic past and current problems were implausible and over the top, and I sort of recall finding some of the sex scenes pretty uncomfortable. As usual YMMV but it didn’t work for me.
@Lizzy
You are not alone. I read the first two books in this series and I felt the characters were not well enough developed to support all the plot. Since traumatic family issues are a dime a dozen in Romancelandia, I need interesting characters that I can care about. In this case, I could barely remember their names a week after reading the books.
BN’s nook has the Craft Sequence series by Gladstone advertised as $12 as one ebook including books one through five, available March 14th, that is cheaper by a few bucks if you’re willing to wait.
