    Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis

RECOMMENDED: Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! Sarah has recommended this book countless times:

I love the heroine, the hero, the setting, the snowboarding – this is one of those books where, if you ask me about it, my eyes roll back in my head and I make zombie-esque Good Book Noise®.

Get Wild… And Then Get Wilder…

Accountant Katie Kramer is a quintessential good girl—working hard, recycling diligently, all the while trying to ignore the feeling that she doesn’t fit in anywhere. That’s all she wants. Well, that—and amazing sex, and the kind of daredevil escapade she can look back on when she’s crunching numbers in a dusty cubicle. Which explains why she just took a job in Wishful, California, working for Wilder Adventures and Expeditions. Waking up to find a magnificently built stranger towering over her bed—that part defies explanation…

After wandering the planet for months following a life-changing accident, Cameron Wilder has come back to the only home he knows. Under other circumstances, he might be thrilled to find a gorgeous woman sleeping in his cabin, but now, while he’ll risk his body taking clients on adrenaline-drenched excursions, his heart is off limits. Still, Katie’s killer smile triggers something deep in his gut… among other places. Showing her how exhilarating it can be to stop balancing her life as if it was a checkbook is the biggest rush he’s ever felt—and an adventure Katie’s wishing would never end.

  • The Glittering Court

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead is $1.99! This is the first book in the YA fantasy series of the same name and the other covers are just as gorgeous. Readers loved the heroine’s voice and narrative, but found the endless details of dresses and court life to drag down the book. Have you read this one?

Big and sweeping, spanning from the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training, and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.

When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and then when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.

But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands…

  • Rivers of London

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch

Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch is 99c! This is the first book in an urban fantasy series set in London and (I believe) was a previous DABWAHA nominee. It was also recommended by author Lauren Willig on a previous podcast! Some reviewers on Goodreads felt the first book was missing something, but liked the setting and story well enough to continue with the series.

Constable Peter Grant dreams of being a detective in London’s Metropolitan Police. Too bad his superior plans to assign him to the Case Progression Unit, where the biggest threat he’ll face is a paper cut. But Peter’s prospects change in the aftermath of a puzzling murder, when he gains exclusive information from an eyewitness who happens to be a ghost. Peter’s ability to speak with the lingering dead brings him to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, who investigates crimes involving magic and other manifestations of the uncanny. Now, as a wave of brutal and bizarre murders engulfs the city, Peter is plunged into a world where gods and goddesses mingle with mortals and a long-dead evil is making a comeback on a rising tide of magic.

  • Turned

    Turned by Virna DePaul

Turned by Virna DePaul is 99c! This is a paranormal romance and the first book in the Belladonna Agency series. The hero is a turned vampire working with the FBI to hunt rogue vamps. Readers found some elements a bit repetitive, but others really liked the twist DePaul put on the typically vampire character.

Perfect for fans of J. R. Ward, Nalini Singh, and Lara Adrian, bestselling author Virna DePaul’s new series of paranormal romances introduces readers to a thrilling world where vampires secretly co-exist with humans, seduction rules the night, and the stakes are nothing less than life and undeath.

Welcome to a mesmerizing world where vampires hide among humans. This centuries-old species has its own rules, code of conduct, and taboos. Only the FBI knows that vampires exist—and although the Bureau agrees to keep their secret, it also plots to give humans the upper hand.

Turning mortals into vampires is forbidden.

But there are creatures who refuse to play by the rules.

Ever since he was turned, FBI special agent Ty Duncan has had one mission: bring rogue vampires to justice. As a recruiter for Belladonna, a shadow agency formed to keep vampires in check, Ty must tap Ana Martin, a troubled ex–gang member and one of the few mortals who can infiltrate places that his kind and the law cannot. From their first encounter, Ty fights a hunger to make Ana his own.

When Ty claims to have information about Ana’s missing sister, Ana has no choice but to trust this captivating stranger who awakens her deepest desires. But as she and Ty climb the heights of pleasure and passion, an enemy is conspiring to destroy them both.

Can Ana help Ty find his humanity in a love that could heal them both, or will their passion lead them into a darkness impossible to escape?

  1. I enjoyed Midnight Riot. I listened to it in audio and thought the narrator was fantastic! There were a few things I didn’t love about the story, but for 99c it’s worth it.

  2. Rachel K says:

I love Ben Aaronovitch’s Midnight Riot, (in the UK it is published as Rivers of London, which if you read it probably makes more sense . . . ), the first in a series of urban fantasy-crime novels featuring Peter Grant, a young police officer who is a sort of sorcerer’s apprentice to his boss’s police wizard. What I love about them is that they explore the magic of London and they are chock full of interesting snippets of history, music, literature, mythology, folklore and architecture. Frankly the whole lot is my kind of catnip. They are also rather gloriously peopled by very strong women. Fabulous, powerful, funny and interesting women. And if this is not reason enough to read them, they are also very funny. Absolutely charming. And once you’ve read Midnight Riot, move on to Moon Over Soho. While it is also funny, there is a rather melancholy and spooky back story so bittersweet that it really lingered in my imagination . . . So read the whole series, they are a lot of fun!

  3. Katie Lynn says:

Getting Wrapped Up by Erin Nicholas is free, it’s a collection of holiday novellas from her Sapphire Falls contemporary series.

Bury the Hatchet by Catherine Gayle is free, first in her Tulsa Thunderbirds series. It’s a spinoff of her Portland Storm series but can be read without reading the other series first (contemporary hockey).

To One Hundred by Melissa Blue is also free, contemporary with light BDSM themes. I very much enjoyed one of the later installments in this series, but they’re all very good.

  4. hng23 says:

Seconding Rachel K’s love for Rivers of London series (6 books).

  5. Nina says:

Was this written as a knowing wink wink to the amount of sex in the book? ” As a recruiter for Belladonna, a shadow agency formed to keep vampires in check, Ty must TAP Ana Martin, a troubled ex–gang member and one of the few mortals who can infiltrate places that his kind and the law cannot.”

  6. Joanna says:

A Christmas Kiss by Elizabeth Mansfield is on sale for $.99. It’s an ebook reprint of a trad Regency and was reviewed at Dear Author in November and they gave it an A grade.

  7. Msb says:

Thirding Rachek K and hng23! The Rivers of London series is fascinating, funny and completely addictive: a perfect marriage of police procedural and fantasy, with strong romance elements, plus some seriously kick-ass women, in each book. I’ve just finished book six, with Rivers of London (no. 1) and Foxglove Summer (no. 4 or 5) my favorites. The more you know about London, the more you’ll enjoy the books: Peter’s favored route from Russell Square to Coventry Garden is mine, too. But there’s also a very welcome seriousness in the books, about the value of human (and other) lives and the sadness resulting from the damage done to them by magical and other criminals. Magical or not, all the lives encountered feel real.

  8. ReneeG says:

Count me in as another who enjoyed Midnight Riot. I just need to get on the ball and finish the rest of the series.

  9. Lostshadows says:

Still haven’t read Midnight Riot, but my mother really loves the series.

  10. Carol says:

This isn’t my cup of tea, but know some of you all are looking for alt locations and times in historical. Set India and England (not London) beginning 1904, first two books — The Tea Planter’s Daughter and The Tea Planter’s Bride — in a trilogy are on sale at Amazon for $1.99 each.

  11. Ashley says:

When You Make It Home by Claire Ashby is free right now on amazon.

  12. Gingerly says:

The Rivers of London series is awesome – I can’t recommend it enough. It has amazing world building and great characters, also he gets the Met Police politics and banter spot on.

  13. Yes, Rivers of London is super. I’m looking forward to the next book coming out in…January? February? Soon, in any case.
