  • Dukes Prefer Blondes

Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase

RECOMMENDED: Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price matched!. Carrie read it and gave it a B. Overall, she enjoyed it, but thought it suffered from too much plot:

Dukes Prefer Blondes is a book with irresistible characters, a great plot, and tons of witty banter. Y’all know how dearly I love a battle of wits, and this couple just never slows down on the battlefront. It would be A+ material if not for the extremely odd construction. It feels like this book is one draft short of finished, and also like it’s two books crammed into one.

Biweekly marriage proposals from men who can’t see beyond her (admittedly breathtaking) looks are starting to get on Lady Clara Fairfax’s nerves. Desperate to be something more than ornamental, she escapes to her favorite charity. When a child is in trouble, she turns to tall, dark, and annoying barrister Oliver Radford.

Though he’s unexpectedly found himself in line to inherit a dukedom, Radford’s never been part of fashionable society, and the blonde beauty, though not entirely bereft of brains, isn’t part of his plans. But Clara overwhelms even his infallible logic, and when wedlock looms, all he can do is try not to lose his head over her . . .

It’s an inconvenient marriage by ordinary standards, but these two are far from ordinary. Can the ton’s most adored heiress and London’s most difficult bachelor fall victim to their own unruly desires?

  • Fly With Me

Fly With Me by Chanel Cleeton

Fly With Me by Chanel Cleeton is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance and the first book in the Wild Aces series. Readers say that anyone who had a love for Top Gun growing up pretty much needs to buy this book. However, some felt the ending was a bit abrupt. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

From the author of the Capital Confessions Novels comes the first in the steamy Wild Aces Romance series.

U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Noah Miller—call sign Burn—loves nothing more than flying hard and fast. When he meets a gorgeous and sassy woman while partying in Las Vegas, he immediately locks on to her.

Jordan Callahan owns a thriving clothing boutique, but her love life is far less successful. Her luck changes when six feet, two inches of sexy swagger asks her to dance and turns her world upside down.

One scorching weekend becomes an undeniable chemistry that they can’t leave in Vegas. But the long distance relationship and their different lives threaten to ground their romance. And when the dangers of Noah’s job become all too real, Jordan learns being with a fighter pilot means risking it all for a shot at love…

  • Listen to Me

Listen to Me by Kristen Proby

Listen to Me by Kristen Proby is $3.99 at Amazon! Both Sarah and I picked it as part of April’s Hide Your Wallet post. Readers recommend this if you want something sexy, but easy on the angst. However, some expressed difficulty maintaining their interest. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby’s brand new series, five best friends open a hot new restaurant, but one of them gets much more than she bargained for when a sexy former rock star walks through the doors—and into her heart.

Seduction is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Portland, and Addison Wade is proud to claim 1/5 of the credit. She’s determined to make it a success and can’t think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she’s in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him—his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school—he’s all bad boy…exactly her type and exactly what she doesn’t need.

Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake’s past finally catches up with him.

Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her heart?

  • Rebel of the Sands

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton is $1.99! Sarah was really excited about this book back in March and was also recommended on a previous podcast. Some thought the pacing was off at times, but other readers loved the cast of characters. Have you read this one?

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic.  For humans, it’s an unforgiving place, especially if you’re poor, orphaned, or female.

Amani Al’Hiza is all three.  She’s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can’t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she’s destined to wind up wed or dead.

Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she’s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she’d gallop away on mythical horse—or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

Rebel of the Sands reveals what happens when a dream deferred explodes—in the fires of rebellion, of romantic passion, and the all-consuming inferno of a girl finally, at long last, embracing her power.

  1. Monique says:

I wouldn’t say Listen to Me is easy on the angst. I love the book in part because it is angsty (my catnip).

  2. Is it just me, or does the Crusie link just go to the Teepublic store?

  3. @Amanda says:

    @Aislinn: Whoops, fixed!

  4. Meg says:

It looks like three of the four books in Chase’s Dressmaker series are on sale. I went ahead and got all of them.

  5. Ashley says:

Truth or Beard by Penny Reid is free right now on amazon!

  6. Gigi says:

Fly with Me was just meh for me. The H/h are both annoyingly flawless and the conflict rested solely on their long distance relationship. It was glaringly obvious who would make the sacrifice. I would recommend it though for anyone who loves unrequited love trope as there is a secondary character plot that weaves through this book and the next Into the Blue (equally meh). I feel like the author wrote the first two books just to increase anticipation for the third. And it worked because I can’t wait to get my hands on it 🙂

@Ashley thanks for the tip! I’ve been wanting to check this author out.

  7. Lil says:

I loved Dukes Prefer Blonds, despite the silly title (which I assume is the publisher’s choice, not the author’s). But then, I don’t think books are likely to suffer from too much plot. I’m more apt to thin they suffer from too little plot and too much navel gazing or over lengthy sex scenes. I’m sorry, but more than ten pages is just padding.

  8. CelineB says:

Private Politics by Emma Barry is .99 at Amazon at least. I loved this whole series.

  9. Helen R-S says:

I read Rebel of the Sands about 6 months ago. I enjoyed it, although to be honest I don’t remember the plot that well now. It’s book 1 of what will be a trilogy, so it’s not all tied up neatly at the end of book 1. I’d consider reading the second one when it comes out, but it’s probably one I’ll get from the library rather than buying.
