It’s the seventh night of the Extrava-Hanukkah Giveaway! Only two nights left – so let’s get this one going, eh?
I hope you’ve been having a lovely holiday and are surrounded by warm and delicious things, and possibly warm and delicious people, if you’re into that kind of thing (I hope not. Warm people are good. Eating people… not so much.)
So that took a turn.
Anyway, perhaps you’re surrounded by everyone and everything you love, or perhaps you need some time to yourself to recharge and read. Or both! (I really hope you’re not surrounded by cannibals.)
Today’s giveaway:
A Kindle Paperwhite WiFi with Special Offers!
And you’re going to want to put books on it, I presume, so we’ll add a $25 gift card to go with it. Woo!
All you need to do to enter is tell us where is your favorite place to read? Even if it’s not real, or if it’s far away, share one of your favorite locations to read and relax, and you’re entered to win.
Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Must be 18 years of age and ready to turn up your Paperwhite brightness to eleven. Update: Jamie is our winner! We have one more giveaway left! Best of luck!

I have so many favourite places! But I guess my most favourite is on the sofa in my maternal grandparents’ house (where I also grew up for part of my childhood) with the front door open. I love it in all seasons – the grey skies and cool mist of rain and the smell of wet earth in the monsoons, the chilly breeze in the winter, and the smell of flowers in the summer. This is where I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when I was eight years old. I was terrified of Voldermort coming back to life and this sofa, with the bright sunlight outside, was the only place I felt safe enough to read it.
I read everywhere, but my favorite place to do so is my chair with my legs propped up in my bedroom with my fuschia cotton cashmere throw on my lap and the cool mist humidifyer on to help me breathe and keep my skin pretty (at least that is what I tell myself when the noise bugs me.)
tucked up on the couch. or in a hammock.
I like to read pretty much everywhere, and I am the human embodiment of that little girl reading in a chair: I change positions while reading a LOT. Mostly I seem to ens up reading in bed or on the futon, often with my cat curled up beside me for cuddles.
I do most of my reading in bed or in the train. I’m hoping to be doing more of it at the gym next year.
My favorite place to read is my bed-I have a TON of pillows!!
In bed!!!!!!!! Sometimes a nice fluffy couch.
It used to be in bed, but ever since moving to California this summer, it’s been on the patio. We have a nice little patio table with a big, bright red umbrella and greenery all around me. Before I found my job in the fall, I spent a couple of hours a day there reading. I’d put on my favorite Spotify playlist, get a pot of tea (or coffee if it was in the morning) and read to my hearts’ content.
Oh man, definitely in the bathtub. Sometimes I’ll take a 5-6 hour long bath, and have cans of diet coke all lined up along the edge of the tub and read a couple books. It’s quiet and nobody can bother me and it’s warm and soothing and perfect.
My favorite place to read is the porch swing of my grandma’s house, but my grandma died two years ago and we sold the house a year ago.
I love to read on my couch. Maybe that’s boring, but it’s comfy, my dogs are right there with me, and my books are all around me.
Hands down, I love to read in bed. It’s normally the end of the day and I know I don’t have to stop until I get too tired to keep my eyes open. Perfection!
It’s a tossup between (1) a quiet local cafe [with excellent coffee! and snacks!] and (2) the bathtub.
Bath reading is supremely relaxing but there is always the danger of relaxing TOO MUCH –> comfortable drowsiness –> the unexpected thrill of adrenaline as I begin to nod off, the Kindle approaches sea level and I suddenly jerk awake. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t risk it (again). Zzzz…
I love reading in bed too.
I never get to spend enough time in bed, reading or otherwise.
In bed, with drinks and snacks on my bedside table.
I’ll read anywhere, but I adore the decadence of spending all day reading in bed. 😀 (Unfortunately, IRL responsibilities and adulting make this a rare treat.)
My favorite place to read is in my nist comfortable chair, with a pot of tea and maybe some cookies at hand.
When I was little, my favorite place to read was on the roof of the playhouse my dad had built for us. It was about 7 feet off the ground, and when I climbed up there, I’d be hidden by tree branches. It was my own little sun-dappled world. 🙂
On grass next some type of body of water….yes!
In bed with a cat or two next to me.
At the park, feeding the ducks.
I like to read in bed.
Basically I love to read anywhere but my favorite is in bed! Thanks for the chance to win!
Due to health reasons, my husband has to follow his own diet and meal schedule. As a result, I usually eat alone with my nose stuck in a book.
I love reading in my pillow fort. The benefit of owning your own home is that no one can make you take it down!
My favourite place to read is in bed. Bed is comfy and warm and has a lamp next to it, and reading in bed has two possible outcomes.
1. I fall asleep mid-page and drop the book on my face (my kindle has improved this experience in that it weighs less than many of my books and I don’t lose my place in the book upon impact); or
2. Since I’m already in bed and bed is for sleeping, obviously I went to bed intending to sleep, and so if I didn’t drop the book on my face and am still awake reading when the birds and garbage trucks start the predawn chorus, it must be because I COULDN’T sleep, because insomnia. Not irresponsible reading habits or poor sleep routines. Good thing I had a book to get through the sleepless night! *yawn*
(There is no third outcome, where I went to bed and read for a while and then put the book down and went to sleep at a sensible hour. Doesn’t happen.)
I love to read on my bed, beneath a warm circle of light from my lamp.
When I was in my teens, I arranged my room so I had an old armchair tucked in a corner with a hassock and bookcase in front of me while my dresser concealed me from the doorway. It was comfy and private. More than a few times I got in extra reading because no one knew I was there.
My favorite place to read is my bed, with my giant reading pillow and a cup of coffee, and my cat asleep next to me!
My favourite place to read was on my mum’s couch – either next to her while she browsed her corners of the internet (which she reigned over like the benevolent queen she was), or from the second couch at the back of the room while she and my stepdad watched a movie or read the paper (being both rather hard of hearing, they watched television at a decibal level that made it necessary to sit at some remove!). I would steal her mysteries and leave her any of the romances I had bought during that visit that she seemed interested in.
I used to love reading in the bath, but not so much now electronics are involved.
Now it’s the sunniest corner of the house, which contains an armchair and footstool I inherited from an aunt and put new covers on, with one of the dog’s many beds (one in every room and two in the kitchen)beside it.
I love to read on my soft comfy couch with a hot cup of tea. It’s the perfect place to unwind when I want to get lost in a story!
I love to read on Weekend mornings in my bed with fresh cofee on the side.
I read in bed mostly. I do have a huge comfy couch that I sometimes switch to, but my bed’s the favorite place.
As a child, my favourite place to read was under the giant pine tree that grew in the far corner of my back yard. In summer it was often cooler under its branches than in the house, and in the winter it was the perfect place to avoid both chores and stir-crazy younger siblings. I’d sit and read until it was too dark to see, or until my fingers were too cold to turn the pages.
These days, I’m more about comfy chairs and an easy distance to the tea kettle, but sometimes I still really miss that tree.
I like reading in bed.
Now that I have a spare bedroom that I’ve turned into a library, my favourite place to read is in there.
Bed, definitely. Which seems to be the same as a lot of commenters here. A couple of my other favourite places have also turned up – the bath, the sofa. My mom has a bed in the attic and during the holidays she and my son always take an hour or so to lie down and read up in the attic. No-one knows they’re there and Im really chuffed that my son has gotten into reading that way.
So many choices. In bed and sitting outside in the sun are my top two.
Absolute favorite? In a hammock, on vacation, preferably with a gin and tonic and the sound of the ocean nearby.
