This is so! Much! Fun!
Ahem. Lemme put down this latke (curried sweet potato – YUM) and set up a giveaway, since it’s the middle of Hanukkah and we’ve got candles, latkes, chocolate to spare!
Time for the fourth night of our annual eight straight days of giveaways to celebrate Hanukkah!
Today?
A Kate Spade tote big enough to hold everything you need for an excellent reading day in any season, any weather!
The Kate Spade Grant Street in Jules is a large striped tote bag. It’s about 15.6″ long, 11.3″ high, and 6.2″ wide (~39cm x 28cm x 15cm), and has a handle drop of about 9.1″ – so you can put this over your shoulder, no problem. It has a recessed top zipper that goes the length of the bag, so your necessities stay inside.
The Jules pattern is cream and black stripes, so this bag will go with everything.
And you might need to put some books in it, so we’re adding a $25 gift card to Amazon!
You should be able to fit most of the books you buy in the bag, too. WOO!
Plus, we have some creative ideas, too!
Included with the bag we have:

- A spiral bound copy of the What Lifts You: Uplifting Designs to Color and Create coloring book by Kelsey Montague
- A limited edition lined hardcover journal celebrating the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh.
- I Laughed, I Cried paper bookmarks

Since the advent of ebooks, I always carry my Kindle or other book delivery device. Every one of my purses/bags has been carefully selected to carry my Kindle. Favorite books are ones that I have actually purchased in paper form as well: most books by Robin Hobb, Kelley Armstrong (especially “Bitten”), and all of Heyer’s books (an inadvertent legacy from a long passed m-i-l).
All my books go along with me because I take my kindle with me everywhere I go!
My collection of Emily Dickinson poems, actually. I find them comforting.
NAKED IN DEATH. Because…Naked. In Death! It’s my chicken soup book, the one I pick up when there’s nothing anywhere–my massive paper library, my even massive-er digital library, all the books in my local massive library system, or even more titles on Amazon–that looks worth reading. I have an original paperback. I have a hardback. I have it in digital and audio. I can access it anywhere. And have. I think I’ve read it 30(?) times? I quit counting.
Pride and Prejudice. First book I download with every new e format.
I love that I can carry around the entire Vorkosigan Saga on my phone so I always have it.
I like to have Little Women or 8 Cousins with me, since they were my favorites as a kid.
Robin McKinley’s Sunshine- not a romance, but I think a lot of romance readers would like it.
I can’t pick just one, so that’s why I always have my kindle nearby.
Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wynne Jones, it never fails to make me laugh
I have at least five copies of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. I keep one by my bed and have at least two Kindle versions as well. When I’m stressed it calms me like nothing else.
Well, all of them naturally. I just keep my Kindle with me wherever I go. And should I be stuck in a store or something without, I have my phone with Kindle app. But as for which ones I’m guaranteed to have on hand? Only the best ones like Terry Pratchet’s Discworld books or anything by Sarah MacLean or Lois McMaster Bujold or Tamora Pierce.
I keep my Kindle with me pretty much always, all my favorites are on it
Get ready for a strange one: Archy & Mehitabel by Don Marquis.
Jane Eyre and Les Misérables (and a lot of other Kindle books, but if I could only have access to two it would be those). Don’t ask me to choose between the English and French Les Mis ediitons, though…just don’t. 😉
What I like to have nearby… If possible, I always have knitting and a reading device (phone with app or kindle with all my favs – Crusie, Kelypas, Gracie, Austen, Montgomery, etc.) at hand. Warm beverages are also often in the mix 😉
I would like any of the Kate Daniels books with me at all times. The sass and romance (yes romance) is a necessity at all times.
I’m serious about my faith so I always have a copy of our sacred text.
Living alone, I had to have knee surgery and to go into a “rehab hospital,” AKA, nursing home, to recover. It was miserable. I was miserable. My roommate had to have the TV on all night, as well as the lights. I sleep with neither. Living alone, most of the time, it was quiet. It was NEVER quiet in the facility. I got by because of daily visits by my beloved sister and friends, but at night, it was “Bet Me”–the taped version–that allowed me to transcend into calmness and optimism. I could disappear for an hour until I drifted to sleep (to be awakened in about an hour again by the light and TV), but then I’d listen to the tape again. I adore this book and if you have a weight problem (and what American woman doesn’t?), you MUST read Crusie’s BET ME. Lovely, funny, life-affirming book when I needed it.
Pride and Prejudice is my not very original comfort read. I tend to have my current book with me but if I need comfort reading on the go, I read PP fan fiction on my phone.
Any book near me is a good one. But I seem to keep buying copies of Agnes and the Hitman, by Jenny Crusie. One for every room in the apartment!
Gorgeous! Thank you for the great giveaway! I have The Hating Game by Sally Thorne next to me. I just re-read it for the 4th time.
Any Georgette Heyer fills the bill.
Always a romance, my comfort reads are usually paranormals like Sands.
I have a copy of Pride and Prejudice on all my electronic devices. 🙂
I don’t keep one book near me – I always make sure that both my iPad and iPhone have a mix of different books downloaded on them – different genres and downloaded in case the wifi is down. That way whatever my mood there is something to read.
This may be a giveaway of what generation I’m in, but I almost always have a copy of Harry Potter close at hand. When I was in college I had the English books at home with my family and the set of Spanish editions with me st school.
I read mostly digital now, but I still like to have my tattered paperback copy of “Outlander” nearby. It’s nice to flip to the well-worn pages that mark my favourite spots and re-read as needed.
There are three things I use/re-read all the time:
1. A Harry Potter book( any of them, but The Order of the Phoenix is my favorite ).
2. Some sort of reference book, usually about writing, fashion or a collection of folklore/ mythology.
3. I notebook to write down story ideas that occur to me.
Outlander or anything by Ian Rankin.
OH, and my Chapters gift card that my son gives me for every holiday
I don’t think there is one particular book, but I am pretty much surgically attached to my kindle!
A book period. Love having Kindle app on my phone in a pinch. I lean towards thrillers and supernatural though:)
I love HOLLYWOOD HI-FI by George Gimarc and Pat Reeder, and pull it out when I really need cheering up (which has been often this year!). It discusses celebrity recordings of all eras, some good, but most very bad. The one-liners are fantastic (Bette Davis apparently tap-danced like “a hippo stamping out a grease fire”), and I’ve actually found some fun songs out of it. (There are a couple of weird printing errors, but the authors correct them on the book’s Amazon page…) BTW, Fabio’s album gets eviscerated, but the authors promise to discuss Dame Barbara Cartland’s (far superior, they claim) ALBUM OF LOVE SONGS in their next book.
Lillian Too Feng Shui for the appropriate year. My Kindle with 3,600+ books (99%) romance, currently reading the Lady Julia Grey Mysteries. You ladies are very bad influences, thank you.
I’ll be honest, right now my comfort read is a fic over on Archive of Our Own called “Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail.” You may need an account to read it.
As for books, right now I’m reading Masterminds by Gordon Korman. But for comfort reads I typically go to The Cat Who books by Lilian Jackson Braun or the Wizard of Oz books. Neither is romance, sadly. While I love Romances I tend to devour those in bursts and a lot, like 10 or 12 in a week.
Murder With Peacocks by Donna Andrews – hilarious and always makes me laugh, plus a nice low-key romance.
I usually have an ARC or my Kindle with me. Wild Wicked Scot by Julia London.
Jane Eyre is my everywhere, any-time book. It has travelled with me, and even though I bought a new copy a few years back, I still prefer to read my original copy that is now individual pages held together by an elastic band.
Kindle for the variety of romance and mystery. In house, always have Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, and Anne Gracie books…can’t pick a favorite though.
I don’t keep a particular book with me, but I do always have books in my purse and they’re always romance. I do keep Garwood’s books on my nightstand in case I need an emergency comfort read 🙂
