2016 Smart Bitches Extrava-Hanukkah Giveaway, Part 3

graphic image of menorah with a book in front. It's probably supposed to be the torah or something but I'm pretending it's a romanceIt’s the third night of Hanukkah, and the Smart Bitches are giving away…

A whole bunch of knitting and booking and both from Elyse!

If you’ve enjoyed Elyse’s knitting patterns inspired by everything she sees with her eyeballs, pretty much, she’s got a prize package of warm and fuzzy and lovely things.

Ready?

Take it away, Elyse!

Elyse: For this prize pack we have…

Yarn! Lots of Yarn!

We’re giving away enough yarn to make two projects:  Ashburn by Melanie Berg, a garter stitch shawl that’s appropriate for advanced-beginner knitters and Bias “Before and After” Scarf by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. This pattern is more suited for intermediate knitters.  We’re also including both patterns and the tools needed to complete them.

A copy of The Viscount and the Vixen and Four Weddings and a Sixpence along with four skeins of yarn against a silver backdrop

For the Ashburn shawl we have six skeins of Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, two skeins each of Ash, Finnley Heather and Wonderland Heather (100% wool).

We also have a set of size six circular needles by Susan Bates so you can get right to knitting.

For the Bias “Before and After” Scarf we have two skeins of Schachenmayr Tahiti yarn in Bermuda colorway. This yarn is 99% cotton and it slowly changes color from aquamarine to green, making for a super cool scarf. We’ve also added size 7 bamboo straight needles and a size G Susan Bates crochet hook for your provisional cast-on.

But we’re not done!

We’re also including some lace-weight yarn that you can use to make a second, third or fourth Bias scarf, another Ashburn,  or a project of your choosing.

This is Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud (100% baby alpaca wool, 440 yards each) in the colors Catherine, Reed Heather, Raspberry Heather, and Elise (I know RIGHT).

And while you’re knitting, you might get thirsty.

Luckily we have two teas for you to enjoy from Fava Tea Company.

We had to pick up an ounce of an earl grey blend called Duke (of Earl) tea. DUKE TEA. It’s an earl grey blended with just a hint of clove.

We also have an ounce of Blueberry Roobios, a caffeine free, berry flavored tea perfect for afternoon or evening sipping.

The books How to Disappear, The Courtesan Duchess, Woman with a Secret, and teal, gray and charcoal gray yarn.

And of course we have books:

  • The Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Schupe ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au )
  • Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stephanie Sloane ( A | BN | K | G | AB )

  • Woman with a Secret by Sophie Hannah ( A | BN | K | AB )
  • How to Disappear by Ann Redisch Stampler  ( A | BN | K | AB )

So many good books that show up here that I have a TBR list as long as Santa’s list. I love to read about different books that you have read and listen to your PODCAST. Keep them coming and I will keep adding to my list. Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. Shelly says:

This giveaway is amazing! I recently read Station Eleven and it wasn’t my normal kind of book at all (post-apocalyptic), but it was really great!

  3. PSJ says:

I discovered Act Like It and the Seanan McGuire books here, and I am so, so grateful!

  4. Nat says:

The Perils of Pleasure by Julie Anne Long

  5. Michele says:

I discovered LORD AND LADY SPY (and the other books in that series) and had an amazing time reading them.

  6. Jamie says:

I usually avoid holiday books but picked up Glass Tidings by Amy Jo Cousins. And I’m glad I did!

    Thanks for the giveaway

  7. Pegi Frostholm says:

Well, I didn’t really “discover” this one, since I’ve been hooked on her whole series, but your review did remind me to buy it – and I hardly ever buy books! “Duke of Sin” by Elizabeth Hoyt, the latest in her Maiden Lane series. I have loved all of them, but it’s taken so long for this latest one to come out, I almost forgot it was on its way!

    P.S. I loved this one, too…

  8. ikkinlala says:

I really liked Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.

  9. Becky says:

The macaroni and cheese cookbook…from one of the sale posts. Made some of the best mac and cheese evah. Omg.

Thanks for the giveaway, and happy holidays!

  10. Lizzy says:

Nice Dragons Finish Last was my favorite rec this year. I loved it!

  11. Marlene H says:

Do You Want To Start A Scandal by Tessa Dare. Now I want to read all her books she’s a great author.

  12. Diana says:

Just finished Courtney Milan’s The Heiress Effect and loved it! Also really enjoyed Emily Foster’s How Not to Fall, especially since I typically read more historicals than contemporaries. Thanks so much for the giveaway– as a fan of knitting, Knitpicks, color-changing yarn, shawls and scarves, tea, and historical romances, this prize pack is 100% my cup of tea! (insert all the heart eye emojis)

  13. Emily Levine says:

Wonderful give-away! My favorite book I heard about on your site this year is The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.

  14. mkthor says:

It would have to be The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston. I got sucked in the moment I heard Sarah’s podcast interviewing the author. I finished it then moved straight into The Undoing.

  15. There are so many books that I found because of you guys. Unfortunately, they all end up on my TBR. The one I am most looking forward to reading when I have time is Daughters of a Nation. I planned on reading this right after the election, but when that went sideways, I couldn’t do politics for awhile, so it is just sitting there. I’ll have to try it before 1/20 because I have a feeling I’ll be back in the fetal position again for a few weeks.

  16. Pam Miara says:

    Shelly Laurenston, the Mane Event.

  17. Laura says:

I am really enjoying The Viscount and The Vixen, thanks to your recommendation.

  18. Kini says:

The Hating Game. I had heard about it online but the review here helped me solidify my decision to purchase it.

  19. Erica L says:

I think my favorite book that I heard about here this year was Amanda Bouchet’s a Promise of Fire. Can’t wait for the second book. I love the yarn and the books in this giveaway!

  20. Chris says:

I discovered Elizabeth Hoyt this year!

  21. Malin says:

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet are both in my top ten books of the year, and I read about them here first. I’ve so far read The Hating Game three times, I love it so much.

  22. Mary Preston says:

THE WILL by Kristen Ashley was a great find thank you.

  23. Cat C says:

This year’s hit would probably be the Golem and the Jini

  24. Nettle says:

The Other Side of Midnight, by Simone St. James. I can’t quite remember how, since a search comes up with a post from May 2015, but I definitely heard about it here!

  25. I discovered Ilona Andrews. Why had I never read Ilona Andrews!! An obvious weakness in my reading program, which you ladies have thoughtfully fixed for me. Thank you!

  26. I discovered Ilona Andrews. Why did I never read Ilona Andrews??!! An obvious weakness in my reading program, which you ladies have thoughtfully fixed for me. Thank you!

  27. Kat says:

I just read “A Promise of Fire,” and absolutely adored it! Griffin (*swoon*) and Cat were the perfect addition to my winter break. I also really loved “The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne. So many good books this year!

  28. Tina C. says:

Not to repeat myself from yesterday, but The Shattered Count was truly the best book I read all year. Simply amazing! If you haven’t read it, read it immediately!

  29. Kerry says:

“Pajama Girls of Lambert Square” and anything and everything by Julia Quinn!

  30. Violet Bick says:

I can’t wait to read through this whole thread because there are so many great suggestions for more books to read! Must have books! (Yes, I am a zombie for books.)

For my response, I will say the book I am reading now — “One Fell Sweep” by Ilona Andrews. I just enjoy this series so much — as well as the little glimpses I get of characters from The Edge. Love it!

  31. drewbird says:

I fell deep into an m/m rabbit hole with One Giant Leap 😉

    (yay knitting and books!)

  32. Pat3 says:

    I loved Emma Chase’s Sustained.

Also, I can’t thank Amanda enough for recommending A Promise of Fire. LOOOOOOOVE it!

  33. HannahS says:

Amanda reviewed A Promise of Fire, and it sounded awesome enough that I bought it on the spot! I absolutely loved it, and I’m eagerly looking forward to the next in the series!

  34. Monkey Pants says:

A Promise of Fire- absolutely loved that book, as did so many other people…

  35. Sabrina says:

Reckless, by Anne Stuart – somehow I had never read anything by her before!

  36. Tam B. says:

I took this year off reading. It wasn’t a slump but I stopped my Goodreads Challenge and mainly read favourites and new books by favourite authors. (And my TBR pile didn’t go down even though I didn’t add to it.)

They’re not romance books but the various series by Glynn Stewart I greatly enjoyed reading this year. These books are more space opera – magic meets sci-fi – with a dash of military and were fun reading.

I also spent more time knitting and attempted (and succeeded!) knitting a cable knit vest this year.

  37. Kelly says:

There have been SO MANY books I have found here, but by far my favorite, early in the spring, was A Fashionable Indulgence by KJ Charles. I loved the rest of the series, devoured the rest of her books like pie (Especially Think of England), and have pimped them to everyone I know who doesn’t freak at the idea of M/M.

She has a new book coming out in February and I CANNOT WAIT. I already have it preordered.

  38. Shiny says:

Probably a promise of fire, from all the talk here. Thanks for the giveaways! This one looks so cool! I’ve really gotten into knitting in the past year, and so much pretty pretty yarn!

  39. Janice says:

My favourite find of late from here has to be Act Like it.

  40. erinf1 says:

The Hating Game and A Promise of Fire, which both turned out to be my favorite reads of 2016 🙂 thanks for the awesome giveaway!
