It’s the third night of Hanukkah, and the Smart Bitches are giving away…
A whole bunch of knitting and booking and both from Elyse!
If you’ve enjoyed Elyse’s knitting patterns inspired by everything she sees with her eyeballs, pretty much, she’s got a prize package of warm and fuzzy and lovely things.
Ready?
Take it away, Elyse!
Elyse: For this prize pack we have…
Yarn! Lots of Yarn!
We’re giving away enough yarn to make two projects: Ashburn by Melanie Berg, a garter stitch shawl that’s appropriate for advanced-beginner knitters and Bias “Before and After” Scarf by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. This pattern is more suited for intermediate knitters. We’re also including both patterns and the tools needed to complete them.

For the Ashburn shawl we have six skeins of Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, two skeins each of Ash, Finnley Heather and Wonderland Heather (100% wool).
We also have a set of size six circular needles by Susan Bates so you can get right to knitting.

For the Bias “Before and After” Scarf we have two skeins of Schachenmayr Tahiti yarn in Bermuda colorway. This yarn is 99% cotton and it slowly changes color from aquamarine to green, making for a super cool scarf. We’ve also added size 7 bamboo straight needles and a size G Susan Bates crochet hook for your provisional cast-on.

But we’re not done!
We’re also including some lace-weight yarn that you can use to make a second, third or fourth Bias scarf, another Ashburn, or a project of your choosing.
This is Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud (100% baby alpaca wool, 440 yards each) in the colors Catherine, Reed Heather, Raspberry Heather, and Elise (I know RIGHT).
And while you’re knitting, you might get thirsty.
Luckily we have two teas for you to enjoy from Fava Tea Company.
We had to pick up an ounce of an earl grey blend called Duke (of Earl) tea. DUKE TEA. It’s an earl grey blended with just a hint of clove.
We also have an ounce of Blueberry Roobios, a caffeine free, berry flavored tea perfect for afternoon or evening sipping.

And of course we have books:
- The Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Schupe ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au )
- Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stephanie Sloane ( A | BN | K | G | AB )
- The Viscount and the Vixen by Lorraine Heath ( A | BN | K | G | AB )
- Woman with a Secret by Sophie Hannah ( A | BN | K | AB )
- How to Disappear by Ann Redisch Stampler ( A | BN | K | AB )
- Knitting Ephemera by Carol J. Sulcoski ( A | BN )

Ready to enter? Grab your needles and your teacups!

Forbidden! <3 http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews/forbidden-by-beverly-jenkins/ <3 Such a great book!
Honorable mention (not a romance, and I didn't SQUEE-LOVE it the same way): I would never have read The Woman in Cabin 10 if I hadn't read the review here. It's not my usual fare but I was able to enjoy it because I trusted the review that it wasn't going to give me nightmares, despite being eerie/suspenseful/creepy. I enjoy some variety, so I appreciated that, thanks!
I would have to say Act Like It, but really I feel like I discover at least one new book every week that I enjoy.
A bunch of YA that DD loved! Three Dark Crowns; Leigh Bardugo; Tiny Pretty Things and Shiny Broken Pieces; Sarah Fine… And Lucy Parker (not for DD!)
I’m cheating: not one book, but the entire Wicked Quills of London trilogy currently out by Zoe Archer/Eva Leigh. Fine, if I had to pick just one, it’s “Forever Your Earl.” The writing is very witty and snappy, and I love, love how it’s not a Babies Ever After book. As someone who can’t have kids of my own, finding a series where having a baby isn’t the end all to be all of things is really lovely.
Two books stand out in my mind: Act Like It by Lucy Parker and The Book Shop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan. I love those books!
How Not to Fall was an amazing book!
A Promise of Fire by Amanda Boucher and also revisited Andre Norton’s Year of the Unicorn. Love the recommendations from this site.
I read in one of the comments on a HABO about Paradise by Judith McNaught , thank you! It was a great book
Soooo many good book recs from The Bitchery! The Hating Game, Act Like It, and too many New Adult books to name. Which I thought was not my genre, but apparently it is.
So hard to pick just one, but I loved “Promise of Fire,” and “Queen of Blood,” and “Cinnamon and Gunpowder” and about 80% of the books I read this year came from SBTB or reader recs, or authors I first met on your pages.
Happy Hanukkah, everyone!
‘The Old Ways’, by Robert MacFarlane. A natural and social history of Britain’s ancient paths and trackways. An absolutely fascinating book that revives language long forgotten (like the word ‘Holloway’, which refers to a track so well used it has hollowed out the ground), and makes you long to get out and explore, while helping you to make sense of what you see in the countryside. It is also a powerful call to politicians and landowners to restore or maintain access to public rights of way for walkers, explaining how our sense of place and sense of selves are bound up in the landscape. It’s certainly been a factor in helping me decide to take up a challenge to walk 1000 miles in 2017!
Act Like it by Lucy Parker. Made me laugh out loud.
I bought Lucy Parker’s Act Like It based on a review here and really loved it!
I can’t even single one out! Too many!
Ooops, sorry, disregard my other post, I missed the word ‘here’ on my first reading of the rules! A more on-topic book I discovered here was ‘Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance’, by Lois McMaster Bujold. It made me laugh out loud, and also make me marvel at the complexity of Bujold’s familial and diplomatic shenanigans. I think Ivan is my favourite character of hers – or let’s say the favourite male character, as Cordelia Vorkosigan from ‘Shards of Honor’ also has my heart. I love her strong, intelligent, witty, yet flawed and vulnerable females, particularly Cordelia.
I discovered Emily Nagoski! (Both How to Fall and Come as You Are)
I found out about the wonderful office romance, The Hating Game, by Sally Thorne. (Thanks so much.)
Year of the Unicorn by Andre Norton. I loved her books as a young adult but never read this one. I was excited to see it available at amazon. Great giveaway, thanks for hosting it.
New author to me Candis Terry after hearing her on the podcast. Redheadedgirl’s enthusiasm for the Joanna Shupe Knickerbocker Club series led me to that. Also, I had seen several print and broadcast news stories for the Nacho Figueras/Jessica Whitman Polo books but it wasn’t until I read Redheadedgirl’s review that I tried it and enjoyed. This is from someone who knows nothing of horses.
For me it’s an author: Annabeth Albert. You featured her book Status Update in a hide your wallet (I’m pretty sure) and then it was reviewed. I ended up purchasing it in a Carina sale and have never looked back. I absolutely love how sweet her novels are, and they’re relatively low angst as compare to mf books I’ve been reading lately.
I really liked A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet.
I have been discovering books right and left this past year. Delved into a lot of romantic suspense and spent a lot of time trying to catch up on various authors’ back lists. And listening to bunches of audiobooks (something I can fortunately do at work!). If I have to name one book, I’ll suggest Elizabeth Lowell’s “Pearl Cove” – what an imagination!
Also, “A Promise of Fire.” It is not my usual romance type at all (I prefer contemporaries) but I could.not.put.it.down.
I read the review of the “Hating Game” then ran out get the from the library/ I saw the book 2 days ago but wasn’t too interested until I read the review. I went back to the library “tout suite” and glommed it. Please enter me in giveaway, just for the books. My right arm is not functioning due a brain injury so knitting is out.
Your website has opened my eyes to “fun” reading again.
Thanks to you, I discovered Lisa Kleypas this year – and I’m not sure how I survived life without her. I know shameless flattery won’t improve my chances of winning, but I still want to say that I love Elise’s reviews and her knitting. Happy Holidays. Keep up the great work, and may all the bitches of the world survive 2017 with our sanity intact.
And I spelled Elyse’s name wrong. So much for flattery 🙁
Sorry about that.
Simply Irresistable by Jill Shalvis! I enjoyed her interview so much that I listened to it twice and then proceeded to start reading her books. They make me smile and laugh out loud!
I get most of my book recommendations from y’all since you ladies are so great!! But one book that I haven’t had time yet to read but am REALLY looking forward to reading soon is A Promise of Fire. Just put in all my Amazon gift cards that I received for Christmas so I’ll be starting it soon!!
A Promise of Fire, by Amanda Bouchet – via the review on the site 🙂 very fun
The Unleashed by Shelly Laurenston whichI saw reviewed here then found cheap via Bookbub. Angry women and yummy vikings for the win!
Offensive Behavior by Ainsley Patton: Hot, nerdy, virgin genius! Former Olympic gymnast exotic dancer! Enough said. After this book, I couldn’t devour the rest of Patton’s backlist fast enough. She has such a unique way of characterizing people and situations. Nothing routine here. Even if I don’t win the yarn, thank you for the hours of riveting entertainment. This is just one of many great recommendations I’ve had from you guys.
it’s actually from a few years ago but it was on a bargain post (I think) this year that I finally found and read The Madness of Lord Ian McKenzie and loved it
Books I would not have read without you guys:
Three Dark Crowns
Do You Want to Start a Scandal
A Promise of Fire
Wicked Intentions
In the Kindle, waiting to read:
Queen of Blood
Year of the Unicorn
And that’s just from the last 6 months. I’ve a backlog I need to work through from older reviews. Ya’ll rock!
I’ve found so many books I’ve enjoyed through this site. The most recently read was “Queen of Blood” which was reviewed by Carrie. Really enjoyed it, but kinda wish I’d waited at least till the next one was out. Now I have to wait till July to find out what happens next!
Ooh wow! What an amazing giveaway!
A book, eh? How about… Beekeepers Apprentice?
Sara j mass court of series was great!
The Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid!
Act like it was one but there have been so many.
Three Dark Crowns was great and I probably would never have heard of it if I hadn’t read the review here.
A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet – lived up to all the reviews I read.
