2016 Smart Bitches Extrava-Hanukkah Giveaway, Part 3

graphic image of menorah with a book in front. It's probably supposed to be the torah or something but I'm pretending it's a romanceIt’s the third night of Hanukkah, and the Smart Bitches are giving away…

A whole bunch of knitting and booking and both from Elyse!

If you’ve enjoyed Elyse’s knitting patterns inspired by everything she sees with her eyeballs, pretty much, she’s got a prize package of warm and fuzzy and lovely things.

Ready?

Take it away, Elyse!

Elyse: For this prize pack we have…

Yarn! Lots of Yarn!

We’re giving away enough yarn to make two projects:  Ashburn by Melanie Berg, a garter stitch shawl that’s appropriate for advanced-beginner knitters and Bias “Before and After” Scarf by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. This pattern is more suited for intermediate knitters.  We’re also including both patterns and the tools needed to complete them.

A copy of The Viscount and the Vixen and Four Weddings and a Sixpence along with four skeins of yarn against a silver backdrop

For the Ashburn shawl we have six skeins of Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, two skeins each of Ash, Finnley Heather and Wonderland Heather (100% wool).

We also have a set of size six circular needles by Susan Bates so you can get right to knitting.

For the Bias “Before and After” Scarf we have two skeins of Schachenmayr Tahiti yarn in Bermuda colorway. This yarn is 99% cotton and it slowly changes color from aquamarine to green, making for a super cool scarf. We’ve also added size 7 bamboo straight needles and a size G Susan Bates crochet hook for your provisional cast-on.

But we’re not done!

We’re also including some lace-weight yarn that you can use to make a second, third or fourth Bias scarf, another Ashburn,  or a project of your choosing.

This is Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud (100% baby alpaca wool, 440 yards each) in the colors Catherine, Reed Heather, Raspberry Heather, and Elise (I know RIGHT).

And while you’re knitting, you might get thirsty.

Luckily we have two teas for you to enjoy from Fava Tea Company.

We had to pick up an ounce of an earl grey blend called Duke (of Earl) tea. DUKE TEA. It’s an earl grey blended with just a hint of clove.

We also have an ounce of Blueberry Roobios, a caffeine free, berry flavored tea perfect for afternoon or evening sipping.

The books How to Disappear, The Courtesan Duchess, Woman with a Secret, and teal, gray and charcoal gray yarn.

And of course we have books:

  • The Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Schupe ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au )
  • Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stephanie Sloane ( A | BN | K | G | AB )

Annabeth Albert’s series, “Perfect Harmony,” especially the first two books, and Ann Gallagher’s “Lead Me Not.” Through the “Perfect Harmony” series, I also discovered (late in the game, for sure) Pentatonix and the reemergence of a cappella. LOVE SBTB for the outstanding reviews and suggestions!

  11. Beautiful Wreck by Larissa Brown (who is, coincidentally, also a knitter and publishes some great patterns!).
I took a chance on this book and was blown away by the beauty of the writing, the stark landscapes, and the slow, slow, slow burn of the romance. So good!

A Study in Scarlet Women. Really enjoyed this. In general I just appreciate the site, especially the HABO. Plus, I asked for an received the Chill-Away heated wrap thanks to the gift guide, which will make working in a drafty 100-year old building so much nicer this winter!

  21. Michelle G says:

I love this site for recs! Just a few that I’ve picked up are Act Like It, The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend and Six Degrees of Scandal; the latter was also enjoyed by one of the cats who chewed the cover which led to me having to buy the book from the library. Good thing I loved it!

  22. SaraW says:

The best book I’ve read this year, A Promise of Fire, lived up to the review! Thank you, Bitchery, for being my port in a storm of book-slump.

  23. Hannawy says:

My favourite discovery this year was the Daughters of a Nation anthology. It was so good to learn more about history from a different perspective than I’m used to.

  24. Trix says:

THE READERS OF BROKEN WHEEL RECOMMEND for me (though I mostly think of it as an affair between Sara and her books)…

  25. SandyH says:

Not romance but I hadn’t read David Baldacci so I have been catching up.

  26. Gloriamarie says:

I want to win this so much. I can’t begin to tell you. I could never afford to buy yarn of this quality.

I discovered steampunk this year through Shelley Adina’s Devices series. Really well-written.

A life-changing book I also read is The Book of Joy by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

  27. Abby says:

I really enjoyed The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston. I had read the review and didn’t bite the bullet, but after listening to the podcast interview with her, I went for it. So glad I did! I bought the second one on sale, and it’s sitting in my to be read pile now.

  28. Shannon says:

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet! One of my favorites of the year!

  29. GHN says:

Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series! I’ve seen her books here and there before, but was always a bit meh about them from the descriptions alone. Decided to try one of them out one day, because why not? It ended with me buying the whole series!

  30. Betsydub says:

“Come As You Are” by Emily Nagoski, and currently reading “Love Among the Butterflies: The Secret Life of a Victorian Lady” by Margaret Fountaine.

  31. Dez says:

Oh so many books discovered through you guys! I’m a romance newbie. Two writers I really enjoyed this year were Sarah McLean and Joanna Shupe- if I won this pack I would gift The Courtesan Duchess to share the love.
Thanks for your guidance on the romance genre. You’ve kept my library hold list and Amazon account very busy this year!
My knitting group is making hats for the Women’s March in Washington. I would love to have some fancy new yarn when I’m done with pink hats.

  32. Erica says:

This year I discovered the Johannes Cabal series through your site and I’m so glad I did! 🙂
Such fun! I’m loving them enough to want hard covers.

Thank you for expanding my literary horizons this year xxx

  33. Dana Darr says:

Among other squee worthy finds, I discovered Elizabeth Hoyt and the Maiden Lane series…and the binge read commenced! I haven’t done “read til 3 a.m.” in quite a while. These caught me and hooked me hard!

  34. Jenny Sessions says:

The mischief and the mistletoe. I was startled by the cover when it arrived from the library, but I’ve been enjoying its use of language and using it as an introvert escape this holiday season.

  35. Sharon says:

Girl on the Train. I’ve recommended it to everyone. Really excellent psychological thriller, right down my alley.

  36. Katrina says:

I read SO MUCH Georgette Heyer this year, after reading about her here on the bitchery. I’m sitting here knitting this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dragon-wing-cowl and loving it!

  37. Eva says:

Lyndsay Faye’s Jane Steele. I had already read some of her other books and enjoyed them and that turned out great as well.

  38. Mari says:

Everything by Sarah MacLean… I can’t remember what I started with, but I kept seeing such goof reviews of her books that I finally gave them a chance. And now I’ve loved just about everything she’s ever written and try to wait patiently for more…

  39. Denice says:

So many favorite books found here! I think my favorite this year was the Rook – one of the podcasts mentioned Stiletto, then gushed about the preceding novel the Rook. I got it immediately. One of my favorite books maybe ever? Thanks for quadrupling my reading this year!!

  40. Lara says:

“Glass Tidings” by Amy Jo Cousins
It is the first time I’ve read a romance with two male leads and I’m wondering what on earth took me so long!? The chemistry, dialogue and plot held my hand through a nasty break up. But this is just one of many books I’ve devoured over the last year thanks to SBTB.
