2016 Smart Bitches Extrava-Hanukkah Giveaway, Part 3

graphic image of menorah with a book in front. It's probably supposed to be the torah or something but I'm pretending it's a romanceIt’s the third night of Hanukkah, and the Smart Bitches are giving away…

A whole bunch of knitting and booking and both from Elyse!

If you’ve enjoyed Elyse’s knitting patterns inspired by everything she sees with her eyeballs, pretty much, she’s got a prize package of warm and fuzzy and lovely things.

Ready?

Take it away, Elyse!

Elyse: For this prize pack we have…

Yarn! Lots of Yarn!

We’re giving away enough yarn to make two projects:  Ashburn by Melanie Berg, a garter stitch shawl that’s appropriate for advanced-beginner knitters and Bias “Before and After” Scarf by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. This pattern is more suited for intermediate knitters.  We’re also including both patterns and the tools needed to complete them.

A copy of The Viscount and the Vixen and Four Weddings and a Sixpence along with four skeins of yarn against a silver backdrop

For the Ashburn shawl we have six skeins of Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, two skeins each of Ash, Finnley Heather and Wonderland Heather (100% wool).

We also have a set of size six circular needles by Susan Bates so you can get right to knitting.

For the Bias “Before and After” Scarf we have two skeins of Schachenmayr Tahiti yarn in Bermuda colorway. This yarn is 99% cotton and it slowly changes color from aquamarine to green, making for a super cool scarf. We’ve also added size 7 bamboo straight needles and a size G Susan Bates crochet hook for your provisional cast-on.

But we’re not done!

We’re also including some lace-weight yarn that you can use to make a second, third or fourth Bias scarf, another Ashburn,  or a project of your choosing.

This is Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud (100% baby alpaca wool, 440 yards each) in the colors Catherine, Reed Heather, Raspberry Heather, and Elise (I know RIGHT).

And while you’re knitting, you might get thirsty.

Luckily we have two teas for you to enjoy from Fava Tea Company.

We had to pick up an ounce of an earl grey blend called Duke (of Earl) tea. DUKE TEA. It’s an earl grey blended with just a hint of clove.

We also have an ounce of Blueberry Roobios, a caffeine free, berry flavored tea perfect for afternoon or evening sipping.

The books How to Disappear, The Courtesan Duchess, Woman with a Secret, and teal, gray and charcoal gray yarn.

And of course we have books:

  • The Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Schupe ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au )
  • Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stephanie Sloane ( A | BN | K | G | AB )

Shoot, most of the books I get are based on you all’s recommendations… But like some others said, Act Like It, Hold Me, Sustained, these were some of my favorites this year.

  2. Vanessa says:

I have gotten so many recommendations from your site but my favorite this year was “The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne. Thank you for all your wonderful honest reviews!

  3. Moriah says:

Erin Satie’s, The Secret Heart. It was mentioned in a daily deal post and I love it and ended up buying the rest of the titles in the series.

  4. Cat C says:

OMG the Blueberry Rooibos sounds so good. *Goes to make some tea but sadly has to choose between fruit and rooibos*

A Promise of Fire was one I’m so grateful to Amanda for recommending (and another Amanda for writing, haha). I usually stick with historical or contemporary and don’t go in for fantasy elements but I’m SO HAPPY to have given this a try. And I’m delighted to hear that time has flown and the sequel’s release is imminent.

  5. Minerva says:

I just discovered Truth or Beard by Penny Reid. What have I been doing all year??? Off to read the rest of the Winston Brothers books.

I discovered all of Julia Quinn’s backlog this year – particularly enjoyed Romancing Mr Bridgerton (who doesn’t?)

  8. Emily says:

I really like The Nothing Girl. I might have read about it here? Also, Bec McMaster. That was definitely something I found here and I have no regrets.

  9. Laura says:

I discovered Sarah Maas thanks to the blog! I binged on everything she has out and have a new autobuy.

  10. SandyL says:

I recently discovered Laura Bickle’s paranormal series. Definitely not urban, more of a “cowboy” feel. The first one is Dark Alchemy.

  11. YotaArmai says:

You introduced me to Courtney Milan books, for which I will always be grateful.

  12. Lauren says:

  20. Claudia says:

You got me to quick click several cookbooks- haven’t cooked anything yet but have enjoyed the thought of it. Also ‘rediscovered ‘ Deanna Rayburn.

  21. Nina says:

“The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne. It was so good that every romance for the next month felt flat. Thanks my B’s for that recommendation.

  22. Kael says:

Well thanks to you all I discovered the O’Kane series, and so far I haven’t regretted it yet!

  23. Sarah says:

I’ve bought so many sale books from links posted on twitter. Not sure I can pick a favorite!

  25. Ruth says:

I’ll go with The Heroine Complex!

  26. ULTRAGOTHA says:

I thoroughly enjoyed Daughter of Mystery and The Mystic Marriage by Heather Rose Jones. Lovely Fantasy of Manners lesbian romances. Politics magic, swords, incredible worldbuilding.

  27. EC Spurlock says:

I heard so many recs for Saga on this site, when I came across it on a Black Friday sale at my comic shop I said “What the hell” and picked up the first two volumes. You guys, thank you, it is SO GOOD. Now I’ve got to get the rest of the series!

Thanks for the lovely prize package! This would give me incentive to give knitting another go.

  28. Heather says:

The podcast & blog lead me to some great authors: Rose Lerner, Beverly Jenkins, Georgette Heyer, Julie James & others. I loved loved loved Alyssa Cole’s series of articles about Romancing the Globe! In the past couple months I’ve been digging the Lass Wore Black by Karen Ranney & Janet Elizabeth Henderson’s Invertary series….hunh, guess I’ve been on kinda a Scottish kick.
Thanks so much for all y’all’s hard work & contributions to the site- it’s fantastic!

  29. Caitlin says:

A Promise of Fire. I’ve read it at least 4 times already!

  30. Susan says:

I FINALLY read Eleanor and Park yesterday after I bought it when it was a recommended sale title here earlier this year (and before that, probably) and I loved it!

  31. Katy L says:

I know I learned about Act Like It by Lucy Parker here, but my memory is so bad, I don’t remember when! I also read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me based on the review here. I don’t usually read sports themed romances, but the characters sucked me right in. Thanks for the recommendations as well as the chance to win the beautiful yarns Elyse selected and (of course) books!

  32. Erin says:

All the Penny Reid books. They are so much fun! I so hope I win this, my mom gave me a gift certificate to our local yarn shop so I can learn how to knit. Happy Hanukkah!

  33. Megan Larsen says:

I found Sherry Thomas’ “A Study in Scarlet Women” and her whole backlist! Excellent!

  34. genie says:

Act Like It, like everyone else is saying. Oh, and Tycoon and Magnate by Joanna Shupe. Gilded Age America? I’ll buy those in physical form even!!!

  35. Sarah says:

Oh so many to choose from, but probably Act Like It by Lucy Parker – a lovely fun break from grad school studying! I don’t usually read contemporaries (I prefer historical romance) but it was exactly the perfect break from school I needed.

  36. Harper says:

SBTB enlarged my TBR pile significantly this year! For Christmas I bought myself A Gentleman’s Game by Theresa Romain, and absolutely loved it. But I had a HaBO solved earlier this year as well, and I can’t wait to get my hands back on that one, too. 🙂

  37. Tanya says:

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet. I can’t wait until the next one comes out. Oh, and all that yarn looks lovely!

  38. Elvish says:

    Oh so much beautiful yarn!

Last book I read from here was Act Like It, which I grabbed last month when I was in London seeing a play. It was perfectly appropriate and totally charming (and gets bonus points for keeping me sane on the long flight home).

Thank you for your wonderful website!

  39. Lisa says:

I discovered Act Like It, which is now one of my favourites.

  40. Lynn says:

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne (which I’m rereading right now!), Act Like It, and Kristen Callihan’s Game On series, and her VIP series. I love them all so much! I also heard about The Ripped Bodice from you, made a stop when I was on a trip to LA, and loved it! Thank you for everything you do!
