  • Fortune Favors the Wicked

Fortune Favors the Wicked by Theresa Romain

RECOMMENDED: Fortune Favors the Wickedby Theresa Romain is $1.99 at Amazon! Hopefully, it’ll be priced matched later today! There’s a treasure hunt, a blind hero, and a former courtesan heroine. Talk about catnip! Redheadedgirl gave this an A grade in a Lightning Review:

What I found the most interesting about this book was how the blind hero was written. He hadn’t always been blind – he was struck by a disease while he was in the Navy – and the narrative describes with abundant detail how he moves through a world he can’t see, but he still perceives. And I really appreciated that she doesn’t magically cure him of his blindness. Love doesn’t cure all things, and this is a part of who he is now.

    INDECENTLY LUCKY

As a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, Benedict Frost had the respect of every man on board—and the adoration of the women in every port. When injury ends his naval career, the silver-tongued libertine can hardly stomach the boredom. Not after everything—and everyone—he’s experienced. Good thing a new adventure has just fallen into his lap…

When courtesan Charlotte Perry learns the Royal Mint is offering a reward for finding a cache of stolen gold coins, she seizes the chance to build a new life for herself. As the treasure hunt begins, she realizes her tenacity is matched only by Benedict’s—and that sometimes adversaries can make the best allies. But when the search for treasure becomes a discovery of pleasure, they’ll be forced to decide if they can sacrifice the lives they’ve always dreamed of for a love they’ve never known…

  • The Daring Exploits of a Runaway Heiress

The Daring Exploits of a Runaway Heiress by Victoria Alexander

The Daring Exploits of a Runaway Heiress by Victoria Alexander is $3.99 at most vendors and $1.99 at Amazon! This historical romance is recommended for those who like more of a lighthearted romance. However, some wished there was more of a conflict. Have you read this one?

    To Do:
    Swim naked in the moonlight
Play in a high stakes card game
    Ride an elephant
    Be painted sans clothing.
    Take a lover. . .

Lucy Merryweather has inherited a fortune–and her great-aunt’s list of unfulfilled wishes. What better way to honor her memory than by accomplishing as many of them as possible? And with Lucy’s family an ocean away in New York, nothing stands in her way–if one ignores the private investigator hired to spy on her.

Yet Cameron Effington is infuriatingly difficult to ignore. . .

As a reporter, Cameron is always looking for a good story. An American heiress running rampant between Millworth Manor and Mayfair is the perfect subject. Not to mention captivating. And extremely kissable. And if Lucy believes he’s a detective? Well, the truth should never get in the way of a good story–or hinder delicious, impetuous passion. . .

  • Magnate

    Magnate by Joanna Shupe

RECOMMENDEDMagnate by Joanna Shupe is $1.99 at Amazon! This historical romance takes place in the Gilded Age of New York, which is a pretty cool setting. Redheadedgirl read this one and gave it a B:

    TL;DR: NEEDS MORE GROVEL.

There really wasn’t a moment like that, and that was frustrating. That was VERY frustrating. So I have to knock this down to a B. All that said, the story made me care about the kind of people who I detest in real life, and I love the setting very much. The next book is Elizabeth’s brother’s book, and I kind of can’t wait to see what makes him turn into a good person.

New York City’s Gilded Age shimmers with unimaginable wealth and glittering power. The men of the Knickerbocker Club know this more than anyone else. But for one millionaire, the business of love is not what he expected…

Born in the slums of Five Points, Emmett Cavanaugh climbed his way to the top of a booming steel empire and now holds court in an opulent Fifth Avenue mansion. His rise in stations, however, has done little to elevate his taste in women. He loathes the city’s “high society” types, but a rebellious and beautiful blue-blood just might change all that.

Elizabeth Sloane’s mind is filled with more than the latest parlor room gossip. Lizzie can play the Stock Exchange as deftly as New York’s most accomplished brokers—but she needs a man to put her skills to use. Emmett reluctantly agrees when the stunning socialite asks him to back her trades and split the profits. But love and business make strange bedfellows, and as their fragile partnership begins to crack, they’ll discover a passion more frenzied than the trading room floor…

  • When Seducing a Duke

When Seducing a Duke by Kathryn Smith

When Seducing a Duke by Kathryn Smith is $1.99! This is the first book in the Victorian Soap Opera series and features a heroine with a major crush on the hero. Readers loved the push and pull aspect of the hero and heroine’s courtship, while some were turned off by the “cursing and vulgar language.” It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

Enchant. Tempt. Entice. Beguile. Just a few things a woman must do when seducing a duke…

Rose Danvers charms her way into the glittering masked ball with only one man on her mind. She would risk certain scandal for a kiss from Greyden Kane, Duke of Ryeton—though she lusts for much, much more…

The ravishing woman in burgundy takes Grey’s breath away. She reminds him of the sheltered beauty entrusted to his care, the only one who has ever touched his icy heart. But Rose would never allow herself to be so indiscreet, so ruled by passion…

Believing their forbidden embrace a terrible mistake, Grey knows he must do the honorable thing and find Rose a husband. But Rose will not be pawned off for propriety’s sake. She will not rest until her seduction is complete and she has the duke bedded, wedded, and deeply satisfied. All he has to do is say yes…

  1. Julia aka mizzelle says:

Theresa Romain also has a novella out today — My Scandalous Duke

also on the YA side, Ally Carter’s Heist Society has a Christmas novella — Grift of the Magi with a female thief.

  2. Dora says:

Fortune Favors the Wicked sounds awesome. Nabbed!

  3. Meg says:

I got Fortune Favors the Wicked based off Redheadedgirl’s review and have no regrets. Absolutely none. In fact, I may have to go re-read it.

  4. Jaclyn says:

I was able to get Theresa Romain’s Holiday Pleasures Bundle (“season for…”) for like 2.99 on iTunes a couple days ago. Four full books! A good deal for someone who is alway hesitant to commit to seasonal books like me 🙂

  5. LauraL says:

@ Meg – I was also thinking I may have to re-read Fortune Favors the Wicked soon. Definitely top ten on my historical reading list this year.

  6. Gloriamarie says:

I just read a Romain, A Gentleman’s Game, and while I enjoyed parts of it, I thought the relationship between h and h was considerably tamer than I remember other Romains being. I was in the mood for something more robust so was disappointed.

About Mr. Snarly Face on the cover of Magnate… for oen thing I find snarly faces most off-putting and for another, does his face remind you of one of those guys on Supernatural?

  7. Tori says:

The Theresa Romain is showing as $5.99 🙁

  8. Crystal says:

@Gloriamarie…I wasn’t reminded of the Supernatural guys so much as I was Wentworth Miller.

  9. Gloriamarie says:

@Crystal, You are so correct. Yes, I’ve seen that exact same Snarly Face on him. Thanks.

  10. Tam says:

I had real trouble with suspension of disbelief in ‘Fortune Favours the Wicked’. I couldn’t believe her parents even let her back in the house, given the mores of the era, and once I managed to swallow that, everything else seemed more and more wildly farfetched. I think I need my Regency to be a bit more – Regency.

  11. Kim W. says:

Oh, he does look like Wentworth Miller! Now I would read all his lines in the voice of Captain Cold…I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. (Good. It’s good.)

  12. Meg says:

@Jaclyn, Amazon has the Holiday Pleasures bundle for $2.99 as well! Thank you so much! Now to read that as well because someone left a single negative review, and don’t think the bundle deserves that.
