Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Chapters Begin with Heyer Quotes

This HaBO comes from Amy, whose Google-fu is failing her in regards to this romance:

I am being driven insane by the memory of a book I read ages ago.

Every chapter had a quote from a Georgette Heyer novel as the header, and that’s all I can remember!

Does this ring any bells? I’m guessing it was a contemporary romance.

Since we have a lot of Georgette Heyer readers in the Bitchery, someone is bound to notice Heyer elements in other romances. Anyone know this book?

  1. When I was a teen, I *LOVED* a YA rom-com novel whose chapters all began with Heyer quotes (and it was the reason I went looking for my first Heyer novel): LOVERS’ GAMES, by Barbara Cohen!

  2. Gina says:

Ain’t She Sweet by Sudan Elizabeth Phillips has a Heater quote with every chapter

  3. Gina says:

Oop Heyer not Heater stoopid autocorrect

  4. SusanH says:

Dang it, I actually knew this one! Ain’t She Sweet is a modern version of a Heyer novel with a quote for each chapter.

  5. LauraL says:

I knew this one too but work has kept me away from the Pink Palace for a while.

  6. Mary says:

Yep, thirding Ain’t She Sweet! One of my favorites

  7. Susan says:

I clicked on the link that @Stephanie Burgis provided–there’s one odd/inappropriate review that kinda makes me want to get the Clorox out. Eww.

  8. cleo says:

Hah. I knew I’d read this just from the headline. I hadn’t worked out the author before I saw the answers. Yay bitchery.

  9. MMVZ says:

Fully agree with you Susan. I took the opportunity to click on the “report abuse” for Amazon
Maybe if all who notice do the same Amazon will remove the “book review”

  10. Sabrina says:

Yikes, that review is definitely not okay. I also took advantage of the report feature.

  11. Susan says:

Thanks, MMVZ. I also took your advice and notified Amazon about the perv comment.

  12. QOTU says:

Great job, everyone. And you might want to fix the title of this post. I’m pretty sure you meant begin and not being.

  13. @Amanda says:

@QOTU: Fixed! Thank you! (One of my fingers is bandaged up and typing is a nightmare lately.)

  14. Julie says:

@SusanH – what Heyer novel is it a retelling of? I read the description, and it’s not ringing any bells to me… but I love Heyer so I’m very curious.

  15. Gloriamarie says:

I know for a fact that within the last 2 years, I read a book that had Heyer quotes at the beginning of each chapter and it was neither of these. Do I remember what it was? Of course not. …sigh…

After reading what folk wrote about that review for Lovers’ Games, I too reported it while wondering how the heck it made it through Amazon censors. I’ve written reviews far more mild than that which were rejected. SO I don’t understand how that review got past the censors.

  16. CS says:

Oh, I knew this one! I hardly ever remember their names.

    Ceece

  17. Karin says:

@Gloriamarie, I also remember a book with Heyer quotes I read fairly recently, and I haven’t been reading SEP or the other book mentioned. But darned if I know what it was! I’m thinking it was a Regency, though.

  18. Gloriamarie says:

@Karin, thank you for saying this. I’ve been thinking about it and while I don’t remember if it is a Regency or not, that makes sense. What I also believe is that it is a book that was featured here with the other recommended on-sale books. I also think I read it more recently that I thought. But danged if I can remember author or name of book.
