  • Dark Wild Night

Dark Wild Night by Christina Lauren

RECOMMENDED: Dark Wild Night by Christina Lauren is $5.99! This books are rarely on sale, so a $3 price drop is a big deal. The hero is an Aussie who owns a comic book store, while the heroine has a successful graphic novel. It’s also a friends to lovers story. It was also recommended for readers of nerdy romance on our Couples Who Read Together podcast episode!

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
But what didn’t happen in Vegas seems to follow them everywhere.

Lola and Oliver like to congratulate themselves on having the good sense to not consummate their drunken Las Vegas wedding. If they’d doubled-down on that mistake, their Just Friends situation might not be half as great as it is now.

…Or so goes the official line.

In reality, Lola’s wanted Oliver since day one—and over time has only fallen harder for his sexy Aussie accent and easygoing ability to take her as she comes. More at home in her studio than in baring herself to people, Lola’s instinctive comfort around Oliver nearly seems too good to be true. So why ruin a good thing?

Even as geek girls fawn over him, Oliver can’t get his mind off what he didn’t do with Lola when he had the chance. He knows what he wants with her now … and it’s far outside the friend zone. When Lola’s graphic novel starts getting national acclaim—and is then fast-tracked for a major motion picture—Oliver steps up to be there for her whenever she needs him. After all, she’s not the kind of girl who likes all that attention, but maybe she’s the kind who’ll eventually like him.

Sometimes seeing what’s right in front of us takes a great leap of faith. And sometimes a dark wild night in Vegas isn’t just the end of a day, but the beginning of a bright new life…

  • I Wish You Were Mine

I Wish You Were Mine by Lauren Layne

I Wish You Were Mine by Lauren Layne is 99c! This is a contemporary romance where the hero is love with his ex-wife’s sister. Talk about awkward. I know that pairing may turn some readers off, but reviews have mentioned it’s not framed as a bad sister vs. good sister scenario. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

  • Always My Girl

Always My Girl by Samantha Chase

Always My Girl by Samantha Chase is 99c! This is a friends to lovers contemporary romance. Some readers expressed that they had a hard time finding the chemistry between the hero and heroine. However, others loved watching the couple overcome obstacles to realize their feelings for one another. Have you read this one?

Sometimes the love that’s closest to you is the hardest to see.

Quinn Shaughnessy’s two older brothers have found their true loves … but Quinn’s not about to join that parade. Nope, as he tells his best friend Anna, there’s a lot more to life than getting tied down to one person. He’s positive tomboy Anna will be on his side – except she’s inexplicably developing other interests – even dating! Suddenly Quinn is seeing Anna in a very different light.

Quinn has been Anna’s buddy since they were both five years old. She can tell him anything – except the one big secret she’s been hiding for years – that she’s fallen in love with him. Now Anna is determined to make a life for herself that doesn’t include pining for Quinn. Falling in love with your best friend? Easy. Telling them how you really feel? Impossible.

  • Flour

    Flour by Joanne Chang

Flour by Joanne Chang is $2.99! We featured Chang’s second cookbook, Flour Too ( A | BN | K | G | AB ), which has some savory recipes. But this one is all about baking, with recipes for breads, tarts, and even croissants. Some reviewers found the recipes rather long at times, but others say the results are truly delicious, especially the sticky buns!

Every day 1,500 Bostonians can’t resist buying sweet, simple treats such as Homemade Pop-Tarts, from an alumna of Harvard with a degree in economics. From Brioche au Chocolat and Lemon Raspberry Cake to perfect croissants, Flour Bakery-owner Joanne Chang’s repertoire of baked goods is deep and satisfying. While at Harvard she discovered that nothing made her happier than baking cookies leading her on a path that eventually resulted in a sticky bun triumph over Bobby Flay on the Food Network’s Throwdown. Almost 150 Flour recipes such as Milky Way Tart and Dried Fruit Focaccia are included, plus Joanne’s essential baking tips, making this mouthwatering collection an accessible, instant classic cookbook for the home baker.

  1. Hazel says:

For the Brits, Chetna Makan’s cookbook, The Cardamom Trail is 99p today. The recipes look amazing.

  2. Dora says:

Christina Lauren’s stuff is pretty entertaining, and they write scorching sex, but they do have a tendency to fall back into slut shaming and really silly plot drama that hinges on misconceptions and people not communicating them.

It’s not on sale, but Sweet Filthy Boy is a good read… the heroine’s subplot with her HORRIBLE emotionally abusive father is poorly handled and “resolved”, but she’s super sweet and the hero is incredibly loving and sensitive. It’s a good read for anyone who doesn’t like instalove stories, because it basically deals with a more realistic “now what” when the couple realizes they have to connect as people beyond that initial whirlwind passion and figure out if they really do LOVE one another and make it work. The hero and heroine are extremely loving and sweet to one another, but the book is honest about the awkwardness that comes with a new relationship (dialed up tenfold here), and the insecurities. Ansel is probably the most genuinely likable, caring, earnest romance novel hero I’ve encountered in a long time, and Mia bumps up into being TOO twee and fragile at times, but ultimately makes up for it by being a genuinely good person who is willing to work hard on herself and her relationship.

  3. Dora says:

Uhhh, Sweet Filthy Boy being the first book in Christina Lauren’s Wild Seasons series, which Dark Wild Night is apart of. Forgot to mention.

  4. Darlynne says:

I was unable to finish–although I may go back to it one day–Lauren’s BEAUTIFUL SECRET. We’re told the heroine is one of the best and brightest, yet she acts like a teenage imbecile around her boss. Who does that as an adult? I get being in lust and crazy-smitten, I don’t get idiotic behavior.

For US Amazon customers, the first book in Harry Bingham’s Fiona Griffiths crime series, TALKING TO THE DEAD, is free. My heart is not big enough to contain my affection for Fiona. If you like Welsh crime novels and a truly original police heroine, go for it.

  5. Chelle says:

I adored ‘Sweet Filthy Boy’ and really enjoyed ‘Dirty Rowdy Thing’, (along with MOST of the Beautiful Series) but just can NOT get into ‘Dark Wild Night.’ I’ve tried print, ebook, and audio. I just can’t connect with Lola at all and only somewhat connect with Oliver. I think Lola just lives in her head too much for my tastes.

  6. Ellie says:

I have to agree -Sweet Filthy Boy is my favorite by far, and I too didn’t care for Lola and Oliver. Which is odd because they were the couple I was looking forward to the most.

    Ansel was crazy hot.
