  • Once a Soldier

Once a Soldier by Mary Jo Putney

Once a Soldier by Mary Jo Putney is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being matched at other vendors. Readers loved the strong heroine and how she paired well with the hero, but others found a bulk of the book to be dull and lacking any momentum. This is the first book in the Rogues Redeemed series. Have you read this one?

As heir to a title and great wealth, Will Masterson should have stayed home and tended his responsibilities. Instead he went to war. Now, after perilous years fighting the French, he intends his current mission to be his last. But all his plans are forgotten when he arrives in the small mountain stronghold of San Gabriel and meets her.

Knowing herself to be too tall, strong, and unconventional to appeal to a man, Athena Markham has always gloried in her independence. But for the first time in her life, she finds a man who might be her match.

Two of a kind, too brave for their own good, Athena and Will vow to do whatever it takes to vanquish San Gabriel’s enemies. For neither will back down from death, and only together can they find happiness and a love deeper than any they’d dared imagine…

  • A Viking for a Viscountess

A Viking for a Viscountess by Michelle Willingham

A Viking for a Viscountess by Michelle Willingham is 99c! I’m kind of in love with this cover, by the way. This is a historical romance with time travel and readers loved the viking hero’s fish out of water experiences. Other readers felt a lack of an emotional connection between the hero and heroine. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Juliana Arthur, the Viscountess Hawthorne, has been thrown out of her husband’s estate and her marriage declared invalid. With a small son to care for, she desperately needs a strong hero to rescue them from poverty and suffering.

A Viking wasn’t quite what she had in mind.

Arik Thorgrim is caught between worlds. After dying from a battle wound, he expects to find the glory of Valhalla where he can dwell among the gods. Instead, he’s brought forward a thousand years in time, to a beautiful woman who tempts him beyond reason.

Juliana doesn’t know what to do with this sinfully handsome Viking warrior who brings weapons into a ballroom and refuses to be tamed. Yet beneath his barbaric ways is a man of honor, a man who vows to face down her enemies and fight for her son’s future. But as Arik wages a battle against her heart, Juliana is afraid of loving a man whose time has already run out…

  • Just a Girl

Just a Girl by Ellie Cahill

Just a Girl by Ellie Cahill is 99c! This is a small town contemporary romance with a rockstar heroine. Elyse read this one and gave it a B+. She especially liked how the hero’s anxiety was handled:

One thing I really loved about this book was Paul. He’s got an anxiety disorder and I felt that it was depicted very accurately. He has panic attacks (he almost has one when his tattoo is getting touched up) and he has debilitating stage fright. Sometimes he manages it in a healthy way, and sometimes he self medicates. Even though Paul’s friends and family are aware of his anxiety and help him through it (especially his sister, Kenzie), he’s ashamed to have this thing that’s wrong with him. He refers to himself as a head case or crazy. Presley frequently has to call Paul to the carpet for being cruel to himself. I liked that things like therapy, Xanax, breathing exercises, and anxiety medications were mentioned. I think anyone who has experienced a panic attack (raises hand) or a generalized anxiety disorder, will appreciate this book.

In this pitch-perfect novel from the author of When Joss Met Matt (“One of those books that make you forget everything around you.”—Sophie Jordan), a rock ’n’ roll diva must choose between her career and her heart.

After getting kicked out of her own band—by her own boyfriend—Presley Mason finds herself back in Wisconsin, helping her parents run their renowned music store. Instead of belting out powerhouse vocals to sold-out crowds in L.A., she’s stocking shelves and inspecting rental violins. But the shop isn’t all bad: When she’s vacuuming up late one night, she bumps into the guitar teacher with the smoldering amber eyes and the killer tattoo. And that’s when things take an interesting turn.

Presley soon finds that Paul Kellerman is as good in bed as he is on guitar. So why isn’t he stoked to share his band, Jukebox Bleu, with her? Turns out Paul has crippling stage fright, which he’s been self-medicating without much success. But when Jukebox Bleu’s lead singer gets called for military service, the other members beg Presley to front them. Even though she swore never to mix men with music again, the temptation to perform is almost as intense as her chemistry with Paul. Now Presley must decide what’s more important: a second chance at love . . . or rock stardom.

  • Flour, Too

    Flour, Too by Joanne Chang

Flour, Too by Joanne Chang is $2.99! Flour is a bakery and cafe in the Boston area and I absolutely love it. I’ve never ordered something I didn’t like. This is Chang’s second cookbook focusing on her Flour cafe recipes, but this one tackles more of the savory side of things with sandwiches, soups, and more.

The ideal companion to Flour—Joanne Chang’s beloved first cookbook—Flour, too includes the most-requested savory fare to have made her four cafés Boston’s favorite stops for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here are 100 gratifying recipes for easy at-home eating and entertaining from brunch treats to soups, pizzas, pasta, and, of course, Flour’s famous cakes, tarts, and other sweet goodies. More than 50 glorious color photographs by Michael Harlan Turkell take the viewer inside the warm, cozy cafés; into the night pastry kitchen; and demonstrate the beauty of this delicious food. With a variety of recipes for all skill levels, this mouthwatering collection is a substantial addition to any home cook’s bookshelf.

Riptide publishing seems to have a bunch of their titles half off: most of the Bluewater Bay series, Alexis Hall, the later Cut & Run books, etc.

  2. MollyO says:

How the duke was won by Lenora bell is also a kindle daily deal for 1.99. Not sure if it is price matched though.

  3. Dorothea says:

I don’t usually like time travel romance, but I do love the concept of a Viking rampaging through the ton. I’m willing to drop 99c on the risk.

  4. Cas says:

I am LOVING Larissa Brown’s novel Beautiful Wreck so much I’m taking a chance of a Viking in London. 🙂 Thank you!

  5. Mims says:

Bought Flour, Too and noticed that Gjelina was also on sale for 2.99.

  6. Meg says:

So I grabbed “A Viking for the VIscountess” and wound up throughly enjoying it. At first, I thought there was going to be some serious consent issues but they would up being worked out through the narrative in a way that promoted character growth. Two huge thumbs up there! The ending does implement a bit of hand-waving, but it was good enough that I’m going to grab the sequel.

  7. Lora says:

That Viking cover…at a glance I thought the fur cape was part of his billowing hair and I had visions of a crazysauce Viking Rapunzel…but no, he just chose unwisely, selecting a fur cape that matched his highlights. Sigh. Totally a missed opportunity there.

  8. Patricia says:

A viking in the ton? I can work with that as a weekend jam. I even like his furry man cape.

  9. Ren Benton says:

I have a terrible fear of back hair. The furry man cape was triggering.
