It’s Labor Day weekend in the States! What better way enjoy the holiday than with some new books. All Romance is having a 50% rebate Sunday and Monday! These rebates mean that half of what you spend on ebooks will be turned into “ebook bucks” to be used on a future purchase at the site.
Thanks to Reader Virginia E, who commented on the last rebate, for sharing some additional details:
ARE only offers the rebate on books marked with the little crown icon. Not all publishers participate in the rebate offers, so check carefully. You have to purchase with either Paypal or a credit card to get the rebates. Keep in mind that ARE operates on Central Time not Eastern time. This affects starting and ending times for offers.
Also, if you happen to see any other awesome book deals today, feel free to post them in the comments.

Pairing Off
RECOMMENDED: Pairing Off by Elizabeth Harmon is $2.99! This book received two great reviews on the site. Redheadedgirl gave it a B+:
What really stands out is that it’s clear that Harmon is a skating fan, and either has skated or has put in the work to know what things are: she knows the names of the jumps and the mechanics and clearly understands the facets of training that aren’t just ice time. She isn’t just like, “Um, there’s skates right? And ice? You jump and spin and that’s all you know need to know, right? I’m good.”
Reader Coco D. also gave it a B+ during the 2016 RITA® Reader Challenge:
I don’t always want my romances this sweet, but this was an enjoyable and immersive Olympic skating romp with likable characters and lots of fun details. It combined familiar plot elements in a different setting and managed to avoid many sensational and stereotypical landmines in what I imagine could have been tough international terrain.
American figure skater Carrie Parker’s Winter Games dreams were dashed when her philandering partner caused one of the greatest scandals in skating history. Blacklisted from competing in the United States, her career is over…until she receives a mysterious invitation and is paired with the most infuriating, talented—and handsome—skater she’s ever met.
Russian champion Anton Belikov knows sacrifice. He gave up a normal life and any hope of a meaningful relationship to pursue his dream. And he’s come close—with a silver medal already under his belt, the next stop is the gold. All he needs is a partner. While he’s never forgotten the young American skater he seduced one long-ago night in Amsterdam, he never expected to be confronted with their past…never mind share the ice with her.
When what starts as a publicity stunt grows into something real, Carrie and Anton’s partnership will test their loyalties to family, country and each other. With only a few months to train for the competition of a lifetime, can they master technique and their emotions, or will they lose their footing and fall victim to the heartaches of their pasts?

Fully Ignited
Fully Ignited by Shannon Stacey is 99c at Amazon! Hopefully, it’ll be price-matched at some point! This is a workplace romance between firefighters. This is the third book in the Boston Fire series and readers found it to have a good blending humor and sexytimes. However, others wish the book had more tension. Have you read this one?
When Jamie Rutherford takes a temporary assignment as lieutenant of Boston Fire’s Engine 59, she doesn’t anticipate any problems. She’s been in the fire service for a long time and, even though she’s fairly new to Boston, she knows how to make any firehouse her home. What she’s not prepared for is her reaction to firefighter Scott Kincaid.
Scott is looking for a wife. It’s been a fun ride as a single guy, but he’s tired of being the third wheel, and nearly losing his brother-in-law finally made him realize just how much he wants a family of his own. When the new guy at the firehouse turns out to be a capable, confident and very attractive woman, his plan is completely derailed.
Hooking up with a fellow firefighter has never been part of Jamie’s plan, but she’s tempted by Scott—even though getting involved with him could tarnish the reputation she’s worked so hard for. And Scott can’t stop thinking about Jamie, despite the fact that she’s his superior and not sticking around. Chemistry can crush the best-laid plans, though, and while Jamie and Scott might not be each other’s future…there’s no resisting the right now.

No Such Thing
No Such Thing by A.M. Arthur is 99c! This is a gay contemporary romance. Readers mentioned it was a teeny tiny bit of angst, but is mostly a sweet and adorable romance. However, some found it lacked action and was kind of boring. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.
Twenty-two-year-old Alessandro Silva knows that returning to tiny Perch Creek to help his foster mother was the right thing to do. With no degree and a delinquent’s reputation, he’s lucky to have landed a job waiting tables. But not everyone is happy he’s back, and the only thing keeping his move home from being a total bust is his boss’s hot brother.
Jaime Winters spent most of his life watching the world go by, first from a series of hospitals and then from behind big stacks of textbooks. Studying is easier than facing the fact that years of heart failure means he’s still a virgin at twenty-three. Until the new waiter in his sister’s diner awakens desires he’d long ago given up on.
The last thing Alessandro wants is to fall for someone as fragile as Jaime. And Jaime may have a new heart, but he’s scared of what giving it to another person would mean. Their no-strings-attached, instructional approach to sex keeps emotion safely at bay, until a secret from Alessandro’s past forces them to confront their feelings in the present…

Apples Should Be Red
Apples Should Be Red by Penny Watson is a Thanksgiving-set novella, and it’s 99c. This story has a 3.9-star average on Goodreads. It features a couple who are older than the protagonists we most often read about (62 and 59), and readers who reviewed it said they laughed themselves silly.
Recipe for Thanksgiving Dinner:
Start with 62-year old politically incorrect, chain-smoking, hard-cussing curmudgeon.
Add 59-year old sexually-repressed know-it-all in pearls.
Throw in a beer can-turkey, a battle for horticultural supremacy, and nudist next-door neighbor.
Serve on paper plates, garnished with garden gnome.
Tastes like happily ever after.

I loved Apples Should Be Red. I enjoyed the interplay between the two main characters, especially the grouchy guy that loves to curse. I enjoy grouchy profane guys that are secretly sweet, which I’ll admit is a bit weird and oddly specific.
K.J. Charles Fashionable Indulgence is on sale for 99cents. And Jeannie Lin’s Jade Temptress, srequel to Lotus Palace, is 1.99.
Considering the number of times I watched The Cutting Edge as a kid (on VHS, ahem, telling my age), I NEED to read Pairing Off, stat!
I’m going in the opposite direction regarding Apples Should be Red: I didn’t like it at all. My dislike came as such a surprise because that was and remains the first time I didn’t enjoy a book that I read based on a SBTB review.
RITA nominee A Bramble House Christmas (Carrigans of the Circle C Book 6) by CJ Carmichael is currently FREE on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Bramble-House-Christmas-Carrigans-Circle-ebook/dp/B01744LU08?_bbid=2285092&_bbtype=email#nav-subnav
I second the recommendation for Pairing Off – I bought it last time it was on sale and really enjoyed it. I liked the H/h and the heroine needing to immerse herself in another culture subplots.
My only complaint was that it does drags a little in the middle, before it snaps back.
Definitely a good one for Cutting Edge fans, who under no circumstances should ever watch the direct to streaming sequels.
I liked both “Pairing Off” and “Apples Should Be Red”, and I was thankful to see older main characters in the latter. 🙂 I don’t look for characters that are particular ages, but this was a refreshing change considering that I’m turning 53 in a few short weeks. It’s funny, though, because I just realized how much YA I’ve been reading lately, especially m/m YA.
