  • Blamed

    Blamed by Edie Harris

RECOMMENDED: Blamed by Edie Harris is 99c! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being matched at Barnes and Noble. I loved this romantic suspense, especially the part where the heroine thinks the hero is dead and the moment where they reunite. But I will warn you that it’s incredibly violent. I gave it an A-:

This book was an amazingly pleasant surprise and I lost track of the number of good book noises I made while reading it. I’m still getting my feet wet when it comes to romantic suspense, but I picked a good book to try out.

Born into a long line of spies, sanctioned killers and covert weapons developers, Beth Faraday carried out her first hit-for-hire when she was still a teenager.

That part of her life—the American spy royalty part—ended one year ago, with a job gone wrong in Afghanistan. The collateral damage she caused with a single shot was unfathomable and, for Beth, unforgivable. She’s worked hard to build a new life for herself, far away from the family business.

But someone, somewhere, hasn’t forgotten what Beth did in Kabul. And they want revenge.

As the Faraday clan bands together to defend Beth and protect their legacy, Beth is forced to flee her new home with the unlikeliest of allies—MI6 agent Raleigh Vick, the only man she’s ever loved. And the one she thought she’d killed in the desert.

  • Faking It

Faking It by Leah Marie Brown

Faking It by Leah Marie Brown is 99c! This a mix between contemporary romance and chick lit. The heroine is trying to get over her ended engagement by going on her honeymoon anyway, and partaking in a two-week cycling road trip. While many readers thought this was a charming read, some couldn’t get on board with the heroine’s desirability to every red-blooded man in the book.

Haven’t you ever told a little lie in the name of love?

Vivia Grant couldn’t be happier. She has her dream job and is about to marry her dream man. Does it really matter that she’s led him to believe she’s a virgin? After all, being in love makes every experience feel like the first time anyway! But an unexpected encounter with an ex-lover is about to expose her embarrassing lie…

When Vivia’s fiancé discovers the truth, he ends their engagement—via text—and uses his connections to get her fired. Unemployed and heartbroken, Vivia begins planning her new future—as a homeless spinster. But her best friend has a better idea. They’ll skip the Ben & Jerry’s binge and go on Vivia’s honeymoon instead. Two weeks cycling through Provence and Tuscany, with Luc de Caumont, a sexy French bike guide. Too bad Vivia’s not a big fan of biking. And she’s abysmal at languages. Will she fib her way through the adventure, or finally learn to love herself—and Luc—flaws and all?

  • One Kiss More

One Kiss More by Mandy Baxter

One Kiss More by Mandy Baxter is $2.99! This is a romance between a U.S. Marshal and a person of interest in his case, so it has all sorts of forbidden love elements. Readers enjoyed the aspects of suspense and tension, but some found it lacking realism. This is the second book in the U.S. Marshals series, and the rest of the books in the series are also discounted!

Rough, tough and by the book, he’s most criminals’ worst nightmare. Until the girl of his dreams is caught on the other side. . .

Emma Ruiz knows her father is innocent. But that doesn’t help her convince the law–not even smoking hot U.S. Marshal Landon McCabe. When McCabe bangs on her door demanding information about how her cancer-stricken father escaped from federal prison, she’ll have to distract him somehow–it may as well be with a stolen kiss.

Landon gets why Emma isn’t saying all she knows. What he doesn’t understand is why he’s putting his reputation, his case, and his badge on the line for a gorgeous person of interest. Much as he’d love to, he can’t let Emma play him. The stakes are higher than either of them can guess. The only way to survive is to trust their instincts. But their instincts want more than one kiss. . .

  • Cartel

    Cartel by Lili St. Germain

Cartel by Lili St. Germain is 99c! This is a dark contemporary/erotic romance and is book one in the Cartel series. While I love dark romances, I am not a fan of motorcycle clubs, so I can’t offer up any opinions. Other fans of dark romance say this isn’t that bad compared to other titles (it was referred to as “dark-lite”). But for those who have read this, please leave a comment below with your thoughts!

How much is a life worth?

I grew up in Colombia, the daughter of a wealthy drug lord. I lived a life of extravagance, until one day a drug run went horribly wrong and everything came crashing down around us.

I was given away. A payment for a debt. The Gypsy Brothers Motorcycle Club became my new owners, and I did everything I could to survive.

But falling in love with the man who owned me wasn’t part of the plan…

  • Dearly, Departed

    Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel is 99c! This is a YA, steampunk-ish novel with zombies and romance. I also love that the series name is Gone With the Respiration. Some readers mentioned they DNF-ed this due to too much stuff going on with the plot, while others loved the world-building. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

A classic romance, suspense thriller, rip-roaring adventure, and macabre comedy all at once, Dearly, Departed redefines the concept of undying love.

CAN A PROPER YOUNG VICTORIAN LADY FIND TRUE LOVE IN THE ARMS OF A DASHING ZOMBIE?

The year is 2195. The place is New Victoria—a high-tech nation modeled on the mores of an antique era. Sixteen-year-old Nora Dearly is far more interested in her country’s political unrest than in silly debutante balls. But the death of her beloved parents leaves Nora at the mercy of a social-climbing aunt who plans to marry off her niece for money. To Nora, no fate could be more horrible—until she’s nearly kidnapped by an army of walking corpses. Now she’s suddenly gunning down ravenous zombies alongside mysterious black-clad commandos and confronting a fatal virus that raises the dead. Then Nora meets Bram Griswold, a young soldier who is brave, handsome, noble . . . and thoroughly deceased.

But like the rest of his special undead unit, Bram has been enabled by luck and modern science to hold on to his mind, his manners, and his body parts. And when his bond of trust with Nora turns to tenderness, there’s no turning back. Eventually, they know, the disease will win, separating the star-crossed lovers forever. But until then, beating or not, their hearts will have what they desire.

Not too cool to blatantly troll for hits on someone else’s blog, IMO.

So, I read Cartel over the summer. I’m also not a fan of dark books, but I gave it a shot. I don’t want to spoil anything, but a woman who betrays someone is tortured in a very grotesque way & I wish I could erase it from my memory. I don’t think I could call the book “dark-lite,” but then again, this was my first motorcycle club book, so…yeah. I’ll shut up now.

  4. fairywine says:

Fair warning to anyone considering giving Dearly, Departed a shot-the entire setting is like a Tea Party wet dream. And I’m not talking about subtle undertones either. There are literally lines like “being conservatives, they valued history” (because no liberal has ever been imbued with any sort of affection for history as we all know).

What made me DNF it like it was made out of a nest of snakes lit on fire, however, was the revelation that New Victoria (the setting, and what was South America pre-society shattering wars) was founded because “conservative religious sorts” (the book’s OWN words btw) came down from the devastated former USA and literally conquered and stole it from the native people who already lived there. Neat enough concept, but the whole ‘imperialist gun toting conservatives inherit the earth (and screw whoever was there first)’ narrative had me absolutely disgusted. There’s no sense of apology about it from the heroine, either. She describes them as proud conquerors. Putting aside politics for now, the forced colonization angle alone was in incredibly poor taste.

I dont know if that would bother other people to the extent it did for me, but I wish I had been warned about it before picking up Dearly, Departed so the least I can do is share so potential readers know what they’re heading into.

Is anyone else bothered by the plot line of “Faking It” regarding the fiance who wants a virgin bride? This looks like a contemporary novel.

I don’t agree with lying about one’s virginity, but I definitely have problems with breaking up over it. Hard pass.

  6. Wow @fairywine ! Thanks for sharing that about Dearly Departed. The books sounds HORRIBLE. Thanks for helping not to spend money on a book that will enrage me!!!
