Ravished

Ravished by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with some Beauty and the Beast vibes, which many readers loved. However, other readers felt the heroine’s characterization was a bit inconsistent with constant mood changes. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?
From the cozy confines of a tiny seaside village to the glittering crush of the a fashionable London soiree comes an enthralling tale of a thoroughly mismatched couple . . . poised to discover the rapture of love.
There was no doubt about it. What Miss Harriet Pomeroy needed was a man. Someone powerful and clever who could help her rout the unscrupulous thieves who were using her beloved caves to hide their loot. But when Harriet summoned Gideon Westbrook, Viscount St. Justin, to her aid, she could not know that she was summoning the devil himself. . . .
Dubbed the Beast of Blackthorne Hall for his scarred face and lecherous past, Gideon was strong and fierce and notoriously menacing. Yet Harriet could not find it in her heart to fear him. For in his tawny gaze she sensed a savage pain she longed to soothe . . . and a searing passion she yearned to answer. Now, caught up in the Beast’s clutches, Harriet must find a way to win his heart–and evade the deadly trap of a scheming villain who would see them parted for all time.

Some Like It Scot by Suzanne Enoch is $2.99! This is the fourth book in the Scandalous Highlanders series and features a heroine wearing pants (gasp!). Readers warn that the book can be pretty slow until about the halfway point, but others loved the depth of the characters.
Can a clash of wills …
When a mad lass in trousers shoots at him, Munro “Bear” MacLawry isn’t sure what impresses him more—the girl’s sure aim or her irresistibly tempting curves. Catriona MacColl has fled to the Highlands with her half-sister to escape an unwanted wedding and wants no part of him, or any man. But he can’t abandon the flame-haired, sharp-tongued wildcat now that he’s discovered her—not when she fits so perfectly in his arms.
Lead to a love for all time?
Munro has more than earned his nickname: he’s a well-muscled, well-favored mountain of a man with an engaging bad-boy grin and a string of well-satisfied lasses behind him. Bringing Catriona food, blankets, candles, everything she needs to survive a winter in an abandoned abbey, Munro is an unexpected gift in her reckless bid for freedom—and an unexpected complication. Clan MacDonald has plans for her, and they don’t include her falling for a MacLawry. But this man makes her feel like a woman—and he may be her one chance to live a life about which she’s only dared dream.

Hadrian: Lord of Hope by Grace Burrowes is FREE! Yep, free! This is the twelfth (wow!) book in the Lonely Lords series and features a former vicar hero and a reclusive heroine. Readers loved the gentle, growing romance between the hero and heroine. However, others thought the antagonist plot didn’t quite work within the context of the story. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
Hadrian Bothwell was never an excellent fit with a religious calling, so when his titled brother asks him to take over running the family estate, Hadrian gives up vicaring and returns to Cumberland. He’s spent years thinking of Lady Avis Portmaine as the woman he should have fought for, but he finds Avis has become a recluse on the neighboring estate, socially shunned, and more unavailable than ever.
If Hadrian wants to win the lady’s heart, he must first win her freedom from the past that continues to torment her.

I read Ravished many many years ago and remember virtually nothing other than it fits the Jayne Ann Krentz style and that the title is meant almost ironically.
I loved Ravished. It’s definitely dated but is one of the few 90s romances that I reread…. Is it sad that I have read all of the above books?
@Theresa: Not sad at all! It just means you’re well-read and your book budget gets a reprieve today. 😛
As a non-romance reader, I read RAVISHED and thought it was… okay. While it did have a nice sense of humor to it (and a scientist heroine who reminded me a lot of Temperance Brennan on BONES), I found the melodrama a bit tiring. (“He says he’s forgotten all he knew of love, so even though he insists on marrying me, gets me in bed every chance he gets, tells me I’m beautiful, supports my research, and worried about my safety, we are just good friends.” Bleh.)
I love this book, it still makes me laugh all Harriet wants is to dig her dinosaur bones, the rest of life is just in her way.
I’m on the Ravished train as well. Possibly my favorite Quick book, ever.
I’m currently reading RAVISHED and Harriet is very much a “bookish” precursor to Jayne’s later Amanda Quick heroines like those in her Ladies of Lantern Street series, and some of the Arcane Society books. I’m enjoying it immensely so far, even given the “Beast’s” alleged dastardly deeds.
Ravished is my absolutely favorite Amanda Quick book ever, too! There was a time in law school when I was reading it every week or so, I think. I still reread it when I get a bad flu. It’s my best comfort read. (And we go on MANY cave vacations in my family, perhaps because of this book!)
Haven’t we had a thread here about paleontologists vs archaeologists in romances?
I’m another one who loves Ravished and adores Harriet, but I am a sucker for a Beast and for fossils.
Obvs if the Burrowes is free you should get it but yeah it is not one of my favorites of hers. The thing is that I love the way GB puts words together, but her plots can be really dumb.
One of the ads on the side here is for This Earl is on Fire and every time I see it all I can think is “we don’t need no water let the m–f–r burn!” I don’t think that is a good title!
I think Ravished was the first Amanda Quick I ever read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I kinda love cranky meets oblivious matches. It’s firmly on the keeper shelf. Further, it doesn’t matter if it’s dated, cuz so am I.
Oh I LOVED Quick’s Ravished. It was my first book that I read of hers, and I began to devour the rest. Unfortunately, I didn’t like many of her newer ones at all and felt that there were obvious formulas for some of her other 90s romance. I’m very glad that I stumbled on Ravished first because I loved it so much! Honestly, that trope where smart heroines “figure [the twist] out” before the audience/reader does always gets me 🙂
I love this book so much that I almost bought this e-book so that I could have it at my fingertips all the time instead of having to dig through my actual library
Amanda Quick you say? ‘Beauty and the Beast’ vibes you say? I might just have to get myself a paperback copy to match my other books of hers. (My poor art supply fund. Getting depleted before it’s barely started.)
Thanks for all those who tuned in to support Ravished! I was not disappointed.
The Grace Burrowes, however, may have been free because the whole damn thing is in italics. I’m playing with the font every way I can, but can’t seem to fix it.
