Thinking of You

Thinking of You by Jill Mansell is $1.99 right now. This is a contemporary romance featuring an “empty nest” heroine and reviews say it has plenty of emotion and humor. It has a 3.8-star average on GR, and while some readers say it took some time to set up the plot, once the mirrored storylines between the mother and the daughter got going, the book was charming and fun.
When Ginny Holland’s daughter heads off to university, Ginny is left with a severe case of empty nest syndrome. To make matters worse, the first gorgeous man she’s laid eyes on in years has just accused her of shoplifting.
So, in need of a bit of company, Ginny decides to advertise for a lodger, but what she gets is lovelorn Laurel. With Laurel comes her dangerously charming brother, Perry and the offer of a great new job, and things begin looking up…until Ginny realizes that her potential boss is all too familiar. Is it too late for Ginny to set things right after an anything but desirable first impression?

Stealing Second by Alison Packard is $1.99! This is a sports contemporary romance and the fifth book in the Feeling the Heat series. A couple of the other books in the series are also on sale. Readers loved the second chance romance aspect. However, a couple reviews mentioned there’s a “fake rape accusation plot,” which is a huge OFF for some readers.
Katherine Whitton doesn’t purposely avoid men and relationships, but she doesn’t mind that side effect of immersing herself in her job with the San Francisco Blaze. Years ago she was betrayed by her one true love, and she’s never fully recovered, though she’s tried by building a new life in a city she loves.
It’s taken seventeen years for Tom Morgan to get over Katie—Katherine now. Sober now and faced with the incredible opportunity to manage the Blaze, he thinks he’ll finally be able to handle working with this beautiful woman without falling to pieces…as long as she doesn’t get too close.
A crisis with the team’s star pitcher forces Tom and Katherine to put in long hours together. Years of animosity melt away as the sexual tension between them ignites. Against the Wild by Kat Martin is $1.99 at Amazon and Google:Play! This is the first book in Martin’s Brodies of Alaska and is a romantic suspense set in (obviously) Alaska. Though I haven’t read it, the book seems rather intense based on the description. The heroine is still dealing with the death of her fiancee and the hero has a mute daughter. Some readers expressed that they enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second half, though many thought the setting was perfect for the suspenseful plot. It has a 3.9-star rating on GR. Also, if you’re a fan of Kat Martin, several of her other books are priced at $3.99 or less.

The Sweet Montana Brides Boxed Set by Kimberly Krey is 99c at Amazon! This contains three contemporary western romances that are set on a ranch for people in the witness protection program. So there’s definitely an element of suspense. There is also little to no sex, as a few reviewers on Goodreads had mention, but many loved the heroines. Have you read any of these?
Reese’s Cowboy Kiss:
Texan pageant winner, Reese Taylor, has a former classmate who wants her dead. Now she must leave her friends and family to enter a protection program on Emerson Ranch. A group of good-looking cowboys awaits her, but Reese has her eye on Blake Emerson, the one man too busy with the ranch to give her a chance.
Blake Emerson has no time to go lookin’ for love. He’s got a ranch to run, positions to fill, and an ache in his heart from love gone wrong. So when he agrees to harbor a witness to help on the ranch, Blake assumes his first two problems are solved. But he never dreamed his new guest would be a woman. One he was destined to lose his heart to.
With sparks burning hot and danger around the bend, one question lingers in his mind: Has he only added to his list of troubles, or has Blake just found the woman of his dreams?
Jade’s Cowboy Crush:Single mother, Jade Miller, has just witnessed a murder. Now, set to testify against the cold-blooded killer, Jade must be placed under protection. While she is grateful to the kind folks who’ve offered to take in her and her son, Jade is surprised to find the man escorting them from L.A. to Montana is Gavin Emerson. A womanizing, far-too-attractive-for-his-own-good, rebel cowboy. Jade assures Gavin that she has sworn off men until her son is grown, but all too soon she finds herself fighting back feelings for the man who’s agreed to care for them.
Gavin wants nothing to do with ranch life. Not since the ugly fallout he had with his father over eight years ago. But when he agrees to come back, harboring Jade and her son for a time, Gavin falls in love with life on the land once again. Above that, he finds his heart has been captured by his lovely house guest, Jade Miller.
After reservations on both parts, the two are finally ready to open up and give their new-found love a try. Only they aren’t in the clear just yet, and as a dark and deadly threat falls upon them, Gavin finds that his bad-boy past may have led the danger right to their door.
Cassie’s Cowboy Crave:
Twenty-four-year-old Cassie Lovell has a great job, good friends, and an apartment with a killer view. That is, until life is turned upside down. Without the chance to say goodbye, Cassie is forced into a witness protection program on Emerson Ranch. Just when she fears life is doomed, Cassie meets Shane Emerson, the stunningly handsome cowboy who’ll be posing as her newlywed groom.
Shane Emerson is determined not to fall for the woman he’s agreed to harbor. Especially since the whole thing was his family’s way of trying to get him hitched. So why is it when he takes Cassie into his home, Shane wants nothing more than to turn their make-believe marriage into more than just a sham?
In a moment of weakness, Shane steals a kiss. In return, Cassie steals his heart. Yet before they confess their undying love, a hidden danger threatens to tear them apart.

There are two Kobo coupons, one-time use that worked as of this morning, no idea how long they’re good for:
75% off
OPEN75UP – works in at least USA, Canada, UK, Australia!
90% off
DSCVR90BK – works in at least UK, Australia, S.Africa, New Zealand. Not France? Does work in the US
As usual, these coupons are only good for non-agency books, but there must be something we’re all waiting for, right?
Also, 50AUG gives 50% off from a very specific list of books until 8/22.
Oops: 50AUG Kobo coupon is multi-use.
What are non- agency books?
@Michelle, the code won’t work on mainstream publishers. If you use Kobo’s advanced search, you know can filter results to only show books that are eligible. I just picked up a Sourcebooks title with a code.
@Michelle: It refers to a pricing model. Publishers that set the price of their books use the agency model and the distributors (like Amazon) get a cut from the books sold. Non-agency publishers sell to retailers and distributors for a fixed price and then those retailers/distributors set the price.
The agency model has caused all sorts of issues. Namely ebooks tend to use the “agency” model because it’s hard to “sell” ebooks to retailers given that they aren’t physical objects. Most major publishers use the agency model.
Sorry, I should have specified. Digital titles from publishers like Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Scholastic, Penguin/Random House, Macmillan, HarperCollins typically cannot be discounted by retailers in the US. Interestingly, many of the same can be purchased with coupons in the UK and possibly elsewhere. Go figure and, yes, it’s a mess, but a rant for another day.
Just an FYI, I’ve found that Sourcebooks are coupon-eligible.
@Darlynne, thank you! I had a few lingerers in my “save for later” that I now get to stay up way too late reading! You rock!!!
