The Trouble with Harry by Katie MacAlister

The Trouble with Harry by Katie MacAlister is $1.99! This is a historical romance with a spy hero who has five children, and a heroine hiding her identity. Readers loved the humor, especially the crazy kids wreaking havoc on the household. However, some found the circumstances to be a little silly. Have you read this one?

Enjoy unforgettable characters and irreverent laughs in the Regency series that launched the career of New York Timesbestselling author Katie MacAlister

    You think you’ve got troubles?
As a spy for the Crown, Lord Harry Rosse faced clever and dangerous adversaries-but it’s his five offspring who seem likely to send him to Bedlam. At his wits’ end, he’s advertised for a wife and found one, but perhaps he should have been a bit more forthcoming on certain points…

Wait till you meet Harry and Plum…
Frederica Pelham, affectionately known as Plum, spent years avoiding the scandals of her past, and is desperate for quiet security and a chance to make a family. What she finds is a titled husband and five little devils who seem bent on their own destruction, not to mention hers. And while all kinds of secrets are catching up with them, Plum knows the real trouble with Harry… is that he’s stolen her heart.

  • She Tempts the Duke

She Tempts the Duke by Lorraine Heath

She Tempts the Duke by Lorraine Heath is $2.99! This is the first book in the Lost Lords of Pembrook series. Reviews on Goodreads mention how romantic and angsty the book is, which definitely worked in the book’s favor. However, some found the villain over-the-top and the heroine a little too stupid to live at times. It has a 3.9-star rating.

Three young heirs, imprisoned by an unscrupulous uncle, escaped—to the sea, to the streets, to faraway battle—awaiting the day when they would return to reclaim their birthright.

Sebastian Easton always vowed he would avenge his stolen youth and title. Now back in London, the rightful Duke of Keswick—returning from battle a wounded, hardened, changed man—cannot forget the brave girl who once rescued him and his brothers from certain death.

Lady Mary Wynne-Jones paid dearly for helping the imprisoned young Lords of Pembrook, and she remembers well the promise she made to Sebastian all those years ago: to meet him once more in the abbey ruins where they shared a bold, forbidden kiss. While Mary is betrothed now to another, a friendship forged with dark secrets cannot be ignored. Unexpected passion soon burns dangerously between them, tempting Sebastian to abandon his quest for retribution to fight for a love that could once again set him free.

  • True Spies

    True Spies by Shana Galen

True Spies by Shana Galen is $1.99! This is a historical romance inspired by the movie True Lies, in which the hero leads a double life as a spy without his family’s knowledge. The romance between the hero and heroine and the ups and downs of their married life was a high point for readers. But some couldn’t connect with the characters, finding them childish and frustrating.

    He’s Getting Tired of Deception…

Baron Winslow Keating is honor-bound to finish one last mission as an elite spy for the Barbican group even though he just wants to go home and be with his family. But after years of secrecy and absence, his daughters hardly know him, and his wife has given up on him.

She Wants to Try a Little Intrigue…

Lady Elinor has had enough of domestic boredom. She contemplates an affair with a rakish spy, only to discover a world of intrigue and treachery that she never knew existed. Even more shocking, her neglectful husband is suddenly very attentive—quite the jealous type—and apparently there is much more to him than she ever knew.

  • Seduced by the Gladiator

Seduced by the Gladiator by Lauren Hawkeye

Seduced by the Gladiator by Lauren Hawkeye is $2.99! This is a historical romance set in Ancient Roman with a romance between two gladiators. I like featuring historical romances not typically set in the usual England, but the main problem reviewers had seemed to be with the heroine. She’s often described as strong and she’s a very prominent fighter, but many found that “strong” was just an empty descriptor.

Lauren Hawkeye’s Seduced by the Gladiator is a sexy romp through the arenas of Ancient Rome.

Lilia, in the unparalleled role of female gladiator, has worked hard for her position and reputation. When she meets Christus, a fellow warrior in her ludus, their instant, undeniable attraction puts both of them in jeopardy. They must keep their affair secret from their fellow gladiators, and fight for the champions of Rome.

Racy and compelling, Seduced by the Gladiator, a fast-paced and smart historical romance, with powerful characters and an adventure-packed storyline that’s wickedly sexy, fast-paced, and full of hot romance.

I scored High Season by Jessica Whitman for $1.99 on Amazon this morning. Looks like B&N is matching the price. This is the first of the “Nacho Figueras presents” horse/polo world books and had a few of us squeeing “horsies” and “Nacho!” a while back. Being behind on my Wish List saved me some pony peppermints money today!

I was one of those readers who had a hard time connecting with the characters in True Spies. I’ve enjoyed other Shana Galen books, especially her Duke Street holiday novellas.

  3. Lisa says:

The Trouble with Harry is a bit silly, but it is a fun, light hearted read with an older hero and older heroine. It is sort of a Regency Rom Com. Not high on plausibility but entertainingly fluffy comedy romance.

  4. The oracle of Amazon informs me that not only did I purchase True Spies in 2014, but I also have already read it at least once. I have no memory of either of those events. I swear it’s like I enter a romance-induced trance and operate without consciousness sometimes. Or maybe the book was just that forgettable? Probably not, because I remember really enjoying Lord and Lady Spy from the same series, and you would think I’d remember a Regency-era novelization of one of my favorite movies (THAT’S RIGHT, I LOVE TRUE LIES. COME AT ME, BRO).

  5. chacha1 says:

Well, I know I have NOT read True Spies – yet – consequently that was a one-click for me. I also love the movie True Lies, so sue me. 🙂

  6. kitkat9000 says:

Seconding the love for The Trouble With Harry. The hero is a widower who spends most of his time at home hiding from his kids. And, he has no shame in doing so. I’ve reread it over the years and parts of it still make me laugh out loud. It’s true that it’s silly, but if you’re looking for straight up humor with not much angst, read it. Its something of a tonic on bad days for me.

  7. Rikki says:

I really enjoyed The Trouble with Harry when I read it years ago. I don’t know about True Spies (I also love the movie True Lies, even if it makes little sense).

  8. Konst. says:

Oh I simply looove True Lies. Jamie Lee Curtis is the best!!! :))

  9. Dorothea says:

No comment on the books above, but that purple “Reap & Repent” cover in the ads on the right!! Scrolling down fast, that hood looked distinctly phallic. But I am sure that is a complete coincidence and could not possibly be intentional, right?

Or am I really the only one to see it?

  10. Michelle in Texas says:

    Fav line from True Lies-

    “Harry?!??!”
