Summertime is the perfect time for crafting.
Knitting might seem like a cold-weather hobby what with all the mittens, hats, and scarves, but as the resident Stitchy Bitch here, I can tell you that we knitters work on projects year round and sometimes in unlikely places. I’m a big fan of beach knitting, myself.
To celebrate our crafty readers we’ll be doing three giveaways this summer, each featuring a different creative hobby.
The theme for June is knitting because I picked it and frankly, I’m biased.

Here’s what’s included:
- A Jane Austen project bag that features quote from the lady herself, “She taught me to knit, which has been a great amusement.”
- A Llamarama zip-top tool bag that would ideal for storing yarn needles, a tape measure, a small pair of scissors and other odds and ends.
- A skein of yarn from one of my favorite indie dyers, Destination Yarns. All of their yarn colors are inspired by travel, and this particular color, Northern Lights, is GORGEOUS.The skein is 400 yards of fingering weight 100% super wash merino wool. If you are a sock knitter, let me tell you, this yarn is the shit. You could also make a shawlette or cowl or a hat.
- A tin of Love and Leche’s Lavendar Mint Anywhere Balm. You can use it on your lips, your hands, or to polish the chest of your own romance hero.
- A neon green sheep. This sheep serves no purpose but dammit, he’s awesome.
- And of course there are books! You also get a copy of The Last Summer by Judith Klinghorn and All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank.
Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to knit, purl, and kick ass. Exposure to knitting has been known to cause addiction and terrifying yarn storage habits. Knitting discretion is advised. Yarn envy is a serious condition and should be remedied as soon as possible. Knitting side effects may include SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy); please contact your local knitting circle immediately if you or someone you know has reached this state. Comments will close and a winner will be chosen at random on Friday, 10 June at noon EST.
To enter just leave a comment below telling us where you plan to knit this summer. The beach? The cabin? Your backyard? Please share! And good luck!
UPDATE: The winner is Jess, who picked her own back porch for a great knitting spot!

I’ll be knitting (or crocheting, I’m equal opportunity about either) by the pool at the Y, where my son takes swim lessons.
I’ve got no yard thanks to condo living, so I’ll just be knitting on car trips, and in my living room, with my cat trying to steal the needles because I think he wants to stab us or something.
This summer I will be knitting everywhere I go! The park, the beach, and especially the backyard where my young son spends endless hours building roads. We just put in a patio, so it’s finally going to be comfy for my knitting and child watching!
In my favorite chair, listening to good music or watching something fun on television, because you can do that when you knit, surrounded by friends or loved ones. Who could ask for a better time regardless of the season.
My parents’ back porch when I actually get some vacation time.
