Summer Knitting Giveaway

Summertime is the perfect time for crafting.

Knitting might seem like a cold-weather hobby what with all the mittens, hats, and scarves, but as the resident Stitchy Bitch here, I can tell you that we knitters work on projects year round and sometimes in unlikely places. I’m a big fan of beach knitting, myself.

To celebrate our crafty readers we’ll be doing three giveaways this summer, each featuring a different creative hobby.

The theme for June is knitting because I picked it and frankly, I’m biased.

A llama zip tote, some beautiful yarn, a knitting bag, and two books - all summer long by dot frank and the last summer by judith kinghorn

Beach knitting is the best knitting--especially when you're too pale to tan!
Beach knitting is the best knitting–especially when you cannot tan!

Here’s what’s included:

  • A Jane Austen project bag that features  quote from the lady herself, “She taught me to knit, which has been a great amusement.”
  • A Llamarama zip-top tool bag that would ideal for storing yarn needles, a tape measure, a small pair of scissors and other odds and ends.
  • A skein of yarn from one of my favorite indie dyers, Destination Yarns. All of their yarn colors are inspired by travel, and this particular color, Northern Lights, is GORGEOUS.The skein is 400 yards of fingering weight 100% super wash merino wool. If you are a sock knitter, let me tell you, this yarn is the shit. You could also make a shawlette or cowl or a hat.
  • A tin of Love and Leche’s Lavendar Mint Anywhere Balm. You can use it on your lips, your hands, or to polish the chest of your own romance hero.
  • A neon green sheep. This sheep serves no purpose but dammit, he’s awesome.
  • And of course there are books! You also get a copy of The Last Summer by Judith Klinghorn and All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to knit, purl, and kick ass. Exposure to knitting has been known to cause addiction and terrifying yarn storage habits. Knitting discretion is advised. Yarn envy is a serious condition and should be remedied as soon as possible. Knitting side effects may include SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy); please contact your local knitting circle immediately if you or someone you know has reached this state. Comments will close and a winner will be chosen at random on Friday, 10 June at noon EST.

To enter just leave a comment below telling us where you plan to knit this summer. The beach? The cabin? Your backyard? Please share! And good luck!

UPDATE: The winner is Jess, who picked her own back porch for a great knitting spot!

I’m supposed to put my knitting down? When it gets hot I just move off the deck to my room and crank up the air conditioning.

On my balcony in the evenings and the couch during the day.

  3. Priscilla says:

I will knit in the A/C, dreaming of cooler days.

On my couch (limited options due to busy work schedule and city-living).

I’ll be knitting in Sonoma this week. Yay, vacation!

hopefully on the porch of our place at the beach!

I plan to knit at home, at my LYS, on the road between WA and WI, and pretty much where ever I end up!

  12. Caitlin says:

I intend to spend more time enjoying my backyard and knitting seems like the perfect way to do it. First I’ll need to learn how to knit, but if Jane said it was amusing, I figure it’s well worth a go.

  13. Kathryn says:

Hats. Lots and lots of hats. All weights and shapes

  14. Emily says:

    In the woods!

  15. Tracy says:

I plan to knit this summer on my patio surrounded by begonias and dahlias.

  16. Em says:

Since we’re entering typhoon season where I am, probably in the attic listening to the rain (unless I’ll be hiding from the thunder under the covers with my needles!).

  17. Elizabeth says:

I love knitting at the beach! I find it so peaceful. I’ll also be knitting in my garden. I like to watch the bees fly around while drinking iced tea and knitting on my bench.

  18. Erin G says:

    In bed!

  19. Sionna says:

I’ll be on the back porch looking down on the wildly overgrown backyard that we keep saying we’re going to do something about.

  20. Becks Hass says:

On every outdoor patio I can find

  21. Becks Hass says:

Outside. On patios. With iced coffee near at hand ☕️

  22. Maureen says:

I crochet, but would love to learn how to knit. In fact, I should make that my project for the summer. I would probably knit propped up in bed, listening to an audiobook.

  23. Wendy Clements says:

Most likely either in my computer chair or the chair with the new full spectrum light bulb with my cat on my lap, which makes anything with yarn a challenge as he likes to “help,” but he does so love the lamp (he’s an indoor kitty, and we only have one good window with sun, so the bulb was kind of for him). With a mug of tea. Which he will sniff, because he always sniffs cups of tea, unless they have cinnamon, when he recoils as if there’s a rattlesnake in the cup. He’s a marmalade cat, so the greens and blues would look quite nice on him while I try to figure out what I’m doing (I’m a beginner). 🙂

  24. Jenny Sessions says:

I plan to knit while watching tv after my 7 month old son has gone to sleep.

  25. Nancy says:

I will be knitting at the Box Office where I work and dreaming of sitting on a beach.

  26. Claudia Reyes says:

    Cuba!

  27. jamie says:

At my LYS or meetup group or wherever there is AC

    Great giveaway, thanks!

  28. Ginger says:

On the back porch, most likely. Maybe a swim meet?

  29. Catherine Frome says:

I am knitting in coastal Maine for the summer

  30. Laura says:

I’ll be knitting while sitting on my couch, trying to keep cool. We’ve already had 100+ degrees and it’s only the first week in June.

  31. Anna Fox says:

In the air conditioning! Tucson summer is brutal.

  32. Merry says:

I saw a man knitting at a cafe yesterday and I was green with envy. I may stick to my terrace on the roof of my apartment building.

  33. Eastofeden says:

Most likely at home….there may or may not be an adult beverage involved.

  34. Samantha says:

I normally knit in my bedroom, alone, as I’d otherwise get distracted and lose track of my stitches.

  35. Marisa says:

In my new house! Which hopefully I’ll be moving into in a fortnight’s time! I also have my first drop spindle and bobbin(?), so hopefully I can spin my first ever yarn.

  36. Anita H. says:

I won’t be knitting too much but when I do I’ll be sitting on my couch in the air-conditioned haven of my house!

  37. Lauren says:

I’m not exactly headed into summer (being in NZ) but I like to knit in my big armchair with a snuggly blanket and maybe a hot drink

  38. Joan says:

I’ll knit while at the pool at my sister’s house, Arnold Palmer optional.

  39. Lindsey says:

In my backyard sitting on my Adirondack chair dreaming of the beach.

  40. I usually knit in bed! Lol.
