Summer Knitting Giveaway

Summertime is the perfect time for crafting.

Knitting might seem like a cold-weather hobby what with all the mittens, hats, and scarves, but as the resident Stitchy Bitch here, I can tell you that we knitters work on projects year round and sometimes in unlikely places. I’m a big fan of beach knitting, myself.

To celebrate our crafty readers we’ll be doing three giveaways this summer, each featuring a different creative hobby.

The theme for June is knitting because I picked it and frankly, I’m biased.

A llama zip tote, some beautiful yarn, a knitting bag, and two books - all summer long by dot frank and the last summer by judith kinghorn

Beach knitting is the best knitting--especially when you're too pale to tan!
Beach knitting is the best knitting–especially when you cannot tan!

Here’s what’s included:

  • A Jane Austen project bag that features  quote from the lady herself, “She taught me to knit, which has been a great amusement.”
  • A Llamarama zip-top tool bag that would ideal for storing yarn needles, a tape measure, a small pair of scissors and other odds and ends.
  • A skein of yarn from one of my favorite indie dyers, Destination Yarns. All of their yarn colors are inspired by travel, and this particular color, Northern Lights, is GORGEOUS.The skein is 400 yards of fingering weight 100% super wash merino wool. If you are a sock knitter, let me tell you, this yarn is the shit. You could also make a shawlette or cowl or a hat.
  • A tin of Love and Leche’s Lavendar Mint Anywhere Balm. You can use it on your lips, your hands, or to polish the chest of your own romance hero.
  • A neon green sheep. This sheep serves no purpose but dammit, he’s awesome.
  • And of course there are books! You also get a copy of The Last Summer by Judith Klinghorn and All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. 1. Shay says:

I intend to knit everywhere I possibly can – but most frequently on my sunlounger on the terrace.

  2. Janet Hymans says:

    At Pelican Lake in Minnesota.

  3. Kate says:

I will definitely be knitting in my backyard sitting in my hammock swing. There will be lovely cool beverages to make it even nicer.

  4. Sara says:

This summer I am knitting in front of the TV or in my room under a ceiling fan, mostly keeping my mother company. There are worse ways to spend a summer, and she won’t always be there so I’m making the most of it.

  5. EFK says:

I will spend a month knitting with my mother while drinking tea and eating baked goods. Then I’ll spend the rest of the summer knitting in between writing my masters thesis.

  6. Julia says:

I hope to knit in a hammock in my back yard, listening to podcasts and maybe trying to read at the same time. Because I severely overestimate my own coordination.

  7. S.A. says:

Ideally, I’d knit on the porch swing, but in reality I hate bugs and can’t handle the sun so it happens indoors at my desk in front of the computer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  8. Madge says:

Barring too much dust/noise from the construction site next door, on our north deck, looking up at the North Shore mountains!

  9. Heather RR says:

Before I find a place I need to learn to knit!

  10. Christy says:

On my dock which juts out into Lake Huron…I sit there so often that I feel like I am continuing to bob when I get into bed at night!

  11. Inkspots says:

I shall knit socks on a plane. I shall knit socks at the beach. I shall knit socks from coast to coast, I so hope I win this treat!

  12. Jennifer says:

Mostly I knit in my window seat, while listening to an audiobook. At the beach I’m too busy wrangling my Sandy kiddos to risk getting my yarn sandy. I’m currently working on a shawl for me!

  13. Katelyn says:

On my couch, courtesy of the AC unit we ordered from Amazon last night! Seattle’s having a stupid heat wave. I may ALSO knit at my parents’ air-conditioned house, while observing sunshine from a safe distance.

  14. ReneeG says:

I plan to knit in the house (hopefully finishing up my Swirl sweater). I’m another one who cannot take the sun. Also, if I’m inside, the cats will gravitate to me.

  15. Katie Lynn says:

My summer knitting is poolside, or perched in front of my laptop while I read on the kindle app.

  16. Marjorie Morris says:

Will be knitting in my log cabin in my recliner.

  17. Addie Calvitt says:

I will be knitting at the library for Knit in Public Day! And I absolutely adore the items in your giveaway!

  18. Jennifer says:

I’ll be knitting at the beach, and on a plane, and in San Francisco!

  19. Michelle says:

Any time and place I have a spare few minutes!

  20. Lynn Franke says:

My knitting bag goes wherever I go – any opportunity to knit provides a time of peace…thanks for asking:)

  21. Nadine says:

I’ll probably be knitting in front of the television while watching baseball or in the car on the way to Opti regattas.

  22. Lisa K says:

What a gorgeous yarn – must remedy that yarn envy. I’ve already started summer knitting on my balcony and foresee more of that this year. I am looking at the local parks too. Beach knitting would be grand, but no immediate plans so it may not happen this year.

I am already pondering names for a neon green sheep.

  23. Stephanie says:

I wold probably sit outside on my lunch breaks to work on my crafting and sometimes poolside when I had the chance to visit my family’s campsite at the campground.

  24. Jaime K says:

Mostly at home, in the air conditioning! FL weather is nothing to joke about 🙂

  25. Ursula says:

I’ll be knitting on my apartment balcony, trying to find a place for my feet among all the plants I’ve got growing – probably with an audio book in my headphones.

  26. Lisa M says:

    In my backyard garden.

  27. Susan C says:

I will knit everywhere I go this summer. In restaurants and bars, in my family’s homes, at my local yarn store, and at my house. I will knit outside on a sidewalk on World Wide Knit in Public Day, June 18!

  28. Tara says:

In my comfy chair at home. Keeping the cats away from the tempting string…

  29. Celia says:

I’m knitting a linen tank top on the beach this summer. It’s gonna be awesome.

  30. Pat K. says:

I’ll be sitting on the deck of our tiny log cabin – about 20 miles outside of Yellowstone N.P. – and knitting as local, wild critters amble by. It’s my favorite place in the universe.

  31. Theresa says:

    The beach!

  32. Wanda says:

Most likely at work, my vacation is over already and it’s work, work, work, for the rest of summer!

  33. Debbie Baker says:

I have just moved into a new house, which included a small dressing room off my bedroom, which was IMMEDIATELY christened “The Yarnatorium.” I will be knitting there, in my grandmother’s rocking chair, and also on the sunporch while watching movies, and also on the deck while doing nothing at all.

    \O/

  34. MollyO says:

In a comfy chair with the AC going full blast- got to love the south during the summer

  35. Kimley says:

On a bus, at my home, at the home of some of my knit and natter group. Anywhere that involves some waiting time.

  36. Amanda Thomas says:

At the park and by the pool 🙂

  37. Darice Moore says:

I’ll be knitting at the beach… and also on the couch. (I’m a realist!)

  38. Bo says:

I knit everywhere! Even walking around, I will usually have a sock in progress….

  39. Mara B. says:

Family reunion at a lake! On the bus on the way to & from work.

  40. Meg says:

My couch, on the days I am forced to sit inside and avoid global warming.
