Summer Knitting Giveaway

Summertime is the perfect time for crafting.

Knitting might seem like a cold-weather hobby what with all the mittens, hats, and scarves, but as the resident Stitchy Bitch here, I can tell you that we knitters work on projects year round and sometimes in unlikely places. I’m a big fan of beach knitting, myself.

To celebrate our crafty readers we’ll be doing three giveaways this summer, each featuring a different creative hobby.

The theme for June is knitting because I picked it and frankly, I’m biased.

A llama zip tote, some beautiful yarn, a knitting bag, and two books - all summer long by dot frank and the last summer by judith kinghorn

Beach knitting is the best knitting--especially when you're too pale to tan!
Beach knitting is the best knitting–especially when you cannot tan!

Here’s what’s included:

  • A Jane Austen project bag that features  quote from the lady herself, “She taught me to knit, which has been a great amusement.”
  • A Llamarama zip-top tool bag that would ideal for storing yarn needles, a tape measure, a small pair of scissors and other odds and ends.
  • A skein of yarn from one of my favorite indie dyers, Destination Yarns. All of their yarn colors are inspired by travel, and this particular color, Northern Lights, is GORGEOUS.The skein is 400 yards of fingering weight 100% super wash merino wool. If you are a sock knitter, let me tell you, this yarn is the shit. You could also make a shawlette or cowl or a hat.
  • A tin of Love and Leche’s Lavendar Mint Anywhere Balm. You can use it on your lips, your hands, or to polish the chest of your own romance hero.
  • A neon green sheep. This sheep serves no purpose but dammit, he’s awesome.
  • And of course there are books! You also get a copy of The Last Summer by Judith Klinghorn and All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to knit, purl, and kick ass. Exposure to knitting has been known to cause addiction and terrifying yarn storage habits. Knitting discretion is advised. Yarn envy is a serious condition and should be remedied as soon as possible. Knitting side effects may include SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy); please contact your local knitting circle immediately if you or someone you know has reached this state. Comments will close and a winner will be chosen at random on Friday, 10 June at noon EST.

To enter just leave a comment below telling us where you plan to knit this summer. The beach? The cabin? Your backyard? Please share! And good luck!

  1. Becca says:

In our new home once we move!

  2. JessicaG says:

I plan to knit on my MIL’s deck next to the river. So peaceful….and bottomless margaritas!

  3. Teri C says:

Well I crochethink and have been working to finishow a few sets of arm warmers for the coming fall.

  4. Tam B. says:

As I’m Down Under it’s Winter for me so currently I’m knitting on the lounge in front of the heater.

But in January when it was warm, I knitted on Rottnest Island. Spent the days biking the island to justify my visits to the bakery and the evenings knitting away.

  5. Silvercleo says:

The beach! We’re headed to Corpus Christi for a week and I’m trying to figure out how to knit on the beach without getting sand everywhere. Any tips are appreciated! 🙂

  6. Johanna says:

Mallorca, and also Gothenburg. Although anything that requires me to sit down also requires co-operation from my two-year-old, so this is where I HOPE to knit.

  7. blodeuedd says:

I’d love to learn how to knit socks….well I knew how but have forgotten, alas! I can only knit scarves these days

  8. Nat says:

I will be knitting at home away from the summer heat with coffee and Netflix.

  9. I knit all year and I am knitting a cotton mix jumper for myself at the moment in a gorgeous pale blue colour. As I will be on dialysis soon for my kidneys this will take my mind off it.

  10. Katie says:

I’ll be knitting anywhere and everywhere I can. But probably mostly the couch.

  11. Megan Castellan says:

I’ll be knitting curled up on my nice sofa, mostly. But also on a 10 day drive with a van full of tweens bound for Boston. (Knitting prevents me from stabbing the children. ;))

  12. Jenny says:

I’ll probably be knitting in a few (air-conditioned) places: on the couch in front of the television, at the dining room table with my e-reader propped up in front of me, and at a coffee shop with a group of fellow nerdy crafters. Who knows – maybe I’ll also take knitting with me to one of the outdoor night-time movies around town (but then again, maybe not; I live in Oklahoma and I don’t want to sweat on my knitting).

  13. Lisa J says:

Sitting on the deck while the dogs run around the yard. It’s perfect with a blueberry lemonade!

  14. Jessica says:

In my usual chair, in my living room, watching Netflix. Ultimate knitting glory.

  15. Noni says:

My WiP and I are knitting by the waters edge all summer long. The beach, the river, the lake and the stream. There is much to be said for the soothing sound if the water and the tap-click-tap of my needles.

  16. Most likely I’ll crochet granny squares (or practice new-to-me crochet stitches) in the car, on the way to attend a 75th birthday and my cousin’s wedding. Separate trips.

I’d like to knit myself some wool socks for the winter (my older pairs are wearing out and sadly, the granny-type knitters in my life who kept me in socks have passed on to heavenly knitting circles), so I’m going dig out Melissa Morgan-Oakes’s Toe-Up 2-at-a-Time Socks and try something simple, if I have the time.

Oh, and all this possible knitting will happen indoors. Because swarms of mosquitos. Scourges of mosquitos. A Finnish airforce of mosquitos.

  17. Katrina says:

My balcony is the perfect knitting spot! Just hand me a gin and tonic and my summer is complete.

  18. Jessica says:

I’ll be knitting at the lake with my gramma and also in my knitting chair whilst listening to audiobooks. 🙂

  19. Rae Alley says:

I crochet, so I’ll be hooking instead of perling….

but I plan to get some work done this summer on our epic road trip. DH and I spend the time talking usually, and we’ve got a multi-day, multi-state trip ahead of us – 10hr+2hr+6hr+6hr.

  20. Erin says:

    In the backyard

  21. M L says:

In my office during lunch because I need my daily fix.

  22. Anni says:

I’ll be knitting in my cozy reading nook by the window…currently working on a pair of socks for my boyfriend – his first knit gift!

  23. Kimberly B. says:

I am going to a belly dance convention in Chicago and hope to bring along some knitting for when I need a little introvert time. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  24. Kim S. says:

    Lake Tahoe!

Also, love this: “You can use it on your lips, your hands, or to polish the chest of your own romance hero.”

  25. Kelly says:

I pretty much plan to knit where ever, since that’s whay I do already. I plan on knitting in Shipshewana, Indiania tomorrow, though. And most likely in Florida whrn I visit my mom, and this fall I’m going to knit in Europe. But mostly I will knit at my desk in the living room or on my couch in my craft room.

As for WHAT I’ll be knitting. Socks. Most likely socks. I really like making socks.

  26. Varian Rose says:

I plan on knitting in the living room.

  27. Tina says:

Mostly at home with the AC going. But also in Hilton Head in a few weeks.

  28. Joy says:

I’ll be knitting in Mexico and on the Oregon coast this year! I can’t wait for vacation – and what a lovely giveaway to try for. 🙂

  29. Crysta says:

I plan to knit EVERYWHERE! My favorite summer spot to knit is on the porch of my friend’s lake house in Idaho before it gets really hot. The whole friend gang goes to the lake, and although we’re a rowdy bunch normally, we have somehow all tacitly agreed that mornings are quiet, so we read, knit, sip tea, birdwatch, etc. It’s perfect.

Also, that Llamarama bag is everything.

  30. Pegi F says:

I plan to knit on my couch, in the air conditioning!

  31. Abby Normal says:

I’ll be knitting in front of the fan. Maybe something with cotton or bamboo to prevent the horrible sweaty wool-hands situation.

  32. Anywhere I can. But tomorrow I’ll be knitting at the polls while I’m working the polls. It’s gonna be a long day. Lol. In fact, I need to pack a second project just in case.

I saw this color on Destination Yarn’s IG and coveted it mightily, but I’m really trying not to buy yarn this year and knit from the stash. But giveaway yarn doesn’t count. *wink*

  33. RozM says:

I will be knitting hither and yon. Having set the gargantuan task of knitting 10 Christmas gifts (what was I thinking?), I have already begun to work on the art of passenger-seat knitting and will then aim for park knitting, mall bench knitting, and possibly cafe knitting. Who knows where else the summer will take me and my project bag!

  34. Mad Madam M says:

I love knitting on the deck just off my master bedroom. It’s up in the trees and just peaceful!

  35. Beck says:

On the back deck and at my friend’s pool. Love sheepy!

  36. Ann Knoll says:

Everywhere I go, I take it with me.

  37. I’m going to be RV road-trip-knitting as I attempt to finish a very soft, very huge blanket that my daughter is going to take with her to college. It will be that special mom-knitted gift she can curl up with when she gets homesick. The plan would be to bind off at the foot of Old Faithful in Yellowstone. That’s the plan, anyway. Unless I get side-tracked on Ravelry when we park the RV at night. Then, I will end up with 5 different patterns started for each tourist site we visit. And, nothing finished. Oh, do you think they sell special yarn somewhere by Yellowstone? (Probably Fairy Pool ombre.)

  38. Diane says:

On my couch in the AC is where I’ll be crafting this summer!!! Thank you for the giveaway–what fun!

  39. bnbsrose says:

The BFF talked me into an Outlander themed trip this summer. The package includes two knitting classes: a cowl and cuffs. So I will be knitting in North Carolina and then West Virginia,Ohio, Indiana & Illinois because once I start…..

  40. Kathleen says:

At home in the AC, binge watching my favorite shows.
