Summer Cross Stitch Giveaway

Hello fellow Stitchy Bitches! It’s time for another summer crafting giveaway, this time for our cross stitching readers.

Bag, kits, tea, books and a really awesome cross stitch book

Included in this giveaway are:

  • A Bucilla Bluebird counted cross stitch kit. This kit includes floss, needles, aida cloth and the pattern–everything you need for the project. The finished piece measures 10 X 8″.
  • A copy of Subversive Cross Stitch: 50 F*cking Clever Designs For Your Sassy Side by Julie Jackson. This book of patterns is full of swears and humor. I’ve personally made the “Do Not Fuck With Me” sampler complete with bunnies and duckies.
  • A Folklore pencil bag by Now Designs. This would be great for storing needles, scissors, and your other notions.
  • An Italia Shopper bag. This bag is so cool because it measures 18″ wide by 19″ long when open but folds down to 4.5″ by 6.5″. This bag would be great for carrying your cross stitch project or for taking to the farmer’s market or local craft fair.
  • A needlework blank pendant by Red Gate Stitchery. This 1.75″ by 1.25″ pendant has holes in it that allow you to stitch your own design to wear. The chain is 29.”
  • A 25g tube of Crabtree and Evelyn’s Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy cream. Crafters need to keep their hands in good condition, and I keep a tube of this in my purse and my nightstand. It has a subtle herbal smell to it–not too flowery or overpowering.
  • 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Pure Ice Tea. This black tea can be used to make iced or hot tea, but it’s less cloudy when steeping than most loose leaf black teas, making it ideal for icing.
  • 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Decaf Peach Berry Green tea. I drink iced tea all summer and hot tea all winter. This fruity blend contains sweet peach and pineapple pieces, red Rooibos and hibiscus. It’s decaf so perfect for evening sipping.
  • The entire Wicked Quills series by Eva Leigh. Woo-boy did we love this Regency series! The books are Forever Your Earl, Scandal Takes the Stage and Temptations of a Wallflower.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway except that Elyse got to go shopping which is very fun. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to stitch all the things, including potentially bunnies, duckies, and cuss words. Cross stitch can be addictive, almost as addictive as knitting, and those considering trying this at home should be cautious. Purchasing embroidery floss is also addictive. You’ve been warned. Comments will close around noon EDT Friday 1 July and winner announced later that same day.

To enter leave a comment below and tell us what you watch or listen to while you stitch. I’m a big fan of knitting while catching up on podcasts or listening to audio books. Do you jam out to death metal? Binge watch Netflix? Let us know!

UPDATE: The winner is Tonya K! Thanks to all who commented!

  1. Crysta says:

I tend to Netflix stuff I already know (Friends, Parks & Rec) but this summer I’ve gotten into audiobooks read by the authors that I can get from the library. Right now I’m listening to Sarah Vowell’s newest about Lafayette during the Revolution. So good, and she reads it herself and her voice is so delightfully quirky!

  2. AndiLeigh says:

Usually Netflix, right now I’m re-watching Orphan Black!

  3. kari says:

I looove to cross stitch and of course, i loooove reading, and since I discovered audiobooks I can do both at the same time! Currently I’m reading “A Brief Story of Nearly Everything” by Bill Bryson while stitching Street Sensation from Cross Stitch Collection Magazine.

    Grabby hands!!

  4. Amy says:

The subversive patterns are so much fun, I made the f*ck bookmark for a friend a while back.

I tend to work with massive patterns done in single thread 28ct Monaco. Break breakingly photo-realistic if I do it right. So I tend pop in movies I’ve watched to death (and memorized ALL the dialog) so that I can tune them out as needed, without feeling like I missed anything. I usually gravitate to Lord of the Rings, Marvel, or Tiger&Bunny.

  5. Amy says:

Brain breakingly rather, that’s what I get for not proof reading

  6. Aviva says:

I’m an opera singer, love to cross stitch (it’s a great I’ve-got-55-minutes-between-entrances-but-can’t-leave-my-dressing-room activity), so when I’m cross stitching, I’ve got whatever role I’m working on playing in the background hoping to memorize by osmosis. Learning Peter Grimes was very appropriate to this task, every time the Embroidery Aria came on, I was really in the groove!

  7. Karina Angeles says:

I watch Mysteries at the Museum. I love learning about the past.

  8. Jenny says:

Working my way through my DVR. Right now, that means Doctor Who reruns and some documentaries.

  9. Nikki A says:

    PBS or Netflix 🙂

  10. kkw says:

I have never done cross stitch, because I have never met a handcraft that I don’t love, and I’m slightly terrified of having a new addiction, but here goes: I like to talk on the phone while I knit (or whatever) because I find crafting very soothing, and it makes for better conversations with relatives.

  11. Julie H says:

I knit, crochet and cross stitch, although not at the same time. I do usually have 2-3 projects going at a time.

During the regular tv season, I catch up on all the many shows I DVR., with the occasional hockey game thrown in. Summer is for the summer series, baseball, and going through all 20 seasons of law and order.

  12. Kate says:

I usually have the Food Network going, since there’s no plot that I need to pay attention to…

  13. Sarah says:

Audiobooks! Especially historical nonfiction, books about natural disasters, and gothic romances.

  14. i like to watch nothing but kitten videos. the floofy kitties keep me in stitches while i stitch. lol :3

  15. Lynn says:

The best crafting shows are good, but not visually riveting. So (some) reality tv is perfect! Survivor is my favorite. But I’ll knit through about anything, unless it’s silent or has subtitles.

  16. Katie says:

Currently I’m binge watching cooking competition shows on Netfix.

  17. Raven Peters says:

I almost always watch Netflix when doing any sort of handwork.

  18. Susan says:

I used to watch tv and listen to music, but it’s audiobooks nowadays. (I love cross stitch, but I also do needlepoint, embroidery, stumpwork, handanger, etc. I’m up for anything with a needle.)

  19. Neveth says:

40’s radio detective/mystery serials or the delightfully melodramatic CW superhero shows.

  20. Kris says:

Just some music for me. I can’t watch tv or listen to a book and keep track of both the plot and the pattern.

  21. Libby says:

I usually knit to BBC shows – at the moment I’m going back through Keeping Up Appearances.

  22. Layla Gravely says:

I watch my favorite westerns on netflix. Watch the women stitching as I am stitching.

  23. KellyM says:

I listen to audible books and if TCM has a good movie on I will watch that. My husband built me an awesome craft desk in my newly redone craft room so I usually sit in there and watch what I want and sometimes I sit out with my husband and watch whatever (usually scifi) he has on. I am an avid cross stitcher. I even stitched the Marine Corp emblem and framed it for my husband. Ooh Rah! 🙂

  24. Susannah-Louise says:

These last few weeks I’ve been crocheting while watching the European Football Championships, although it’s slow going because I stop whenever there’s an exciting passage of play! I got a lot more done on EU referendum results night, because I could just listen to the talking heads (and in any case was too angry to look at them).

  25. Jessica says:

I tend to watch Netflix – TV shows almost exclusively – but what with my growing list of podcasts, I should probably go that route!

  26. Rosie says:

I usually have my reality TV shows on in the background when I’m doing my crafting, mostly Real Housewives. 🙂

  27. Anita H. says:

I just put on the tv or music in the background, nothing too distracting or loud since I can’t really do two things at the same time! Haha! Thanks for the awesome giveaway, I’m really loving this fun prize!!!

  28. Christina says:

I’ve been loving the podcast “Hardcore History” while stitching my dad a dragon for Christmas, a la GoT, while we wait another ten months for the next season. Or a new season of Peaky Blinders. Or for a new Meredith Duran novel.

  29. Elaine says:

I catch up on podcasts and audiobooks from the library with a smidge of Game of Thrones thrown in for good measure.

  30. Leigh says:

I listen to a variety of comedy podcasts while stitching.

  31. Erin says:

I have it cross stitched since I was a child but I’ve been thinking about taking it up again. This would be a great start!

  32. Mary says:

I listen to podcasts! One Shot, with tabletop roleplaying stories; Sailor Business, going through every episode of the 90s Sailor Moon anime; Sword and Laser, a SFF book club; and, of course, the wonderful DBSA.

  33. Anna N says:

I like to watch home improvement shows, because they aren’t very demanding of my attention!

  34. Michelle says:

I like audio books when I’m stitching. Watching TV works, too, but I’m much more likely to make mistakes.

  35. Megan says:

I watch once upon a time on hulu

  36. Dee says:

    Grey’s Anatomy

  37. Laura says:

I listen to audiobooks while knitting.

  38. ijinx says:

I like to watch cooking videos in YouTube while knitting.

  39. Wench says:

I often listen to podcasts – especially y’all’s! – when knitting or embroidering. But I have found that if the pattern is too intricate, I can’t listen to or watch anything. And I definitely have to have silence for the cutting portion of hardanger.

  40. Kathryn says:

I’ve always wanted to cross-stitch! I can add it to my crochet regime – champagne, needles, and MIss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.
