Summer Cross Stitch Giveaway

Hello fellow Stitchy Bitches! It’s time for another summer crafting giveaway, this time for our cross stitching readers.

Bag, kits, tea, books and a really awesome cross stitch book

Included in this giveaway are:

  • A Bucilla Bluebird counted cross stitch kit. This kit includes floss, needles, aida cloth and the pattern–everything you need for the project. The finished piece measures 10 X 8″.
  • A copy of Subversive Cross Stitch: 50 F*cking Clever Designs For Your Sassy Side by Julie Jackson. This book of patterns is full of swears and humor. I’ve personally made the “Do Not Fuck With Me” sampler complete with bunnies and duckies.
  • A Folklore pencil bag by Now Designs. This would be great for storing needles, scissors, and your other notions.
  • An Italia Shopper bag. This bag is so cool because it measures 18″ wide by 19″ long when open but folds down to 4.5″ by 6.5″. This bag would be great for carrying your cross stitch project or for taking to the farmer’s market or local craft fair.
  • A needlework blank pendant by Red Gate Stitchery. This 1.75″ by 1.25″ pendant has holes in it that allow you to stitch your own design to wear. The chain is 29.”
  • A 25g tube of Crabtree and Evelyn’s Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy cream. Crafters need to keep their hands in good condition, and I keep a tube of this in my purse and my nightstand. It has a subtle herbal smell to it–not too flowery or overpowering.
  • 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Pure Ice Tea. This black tea can be used to make iced or hot tea, but it’s less cloudy when steeping than most loose leaf black teas, making it ideal for icing.
  • 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Decaf Peach Berry Green tea. I drink iced tea all summer and hot tea all winter. This fruity blend contains sweet peach and pineapple pieces, red Rooibos and hibiscus. It’s decaf so perfect for evening sipping.
  • The entire Wicked Quills series by Eva Leigh. Woo-boy did we love this Regency series! The books are Forever Your Earl, Scandal Takes the Stage and Temptations of a Wallflower.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway except that Elyse got to go shopping which is very fun. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to stitch all the things, including potentially bunnies, duckies, and cuss words. Cross stitch can be addictive, almost as addictive as knitting, and those considering trying this at home should be cautious. Purchasing embroidery floss is also addictive. You’ve been warned. Comments will close around noon EDT Friday 1 July and winner announced later that same day.

To enter leave a comment below and tell us what you watch or listen to while you stitch. I’m a big fan of knitting while catching up on podcasts or listening to audio books. Do you jam out to death metal? Binge watch Netflix? Let us know!

UPDATE: The winner is Tonya K! Thanks to all who commented!

  1. Barbara says:

Netflix for me – usually something I don’t need to concentrate on too much. Archer, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Peaky Blinders, Vikings… It makes binge watching feel a little more productive.

  2. Betsy says:

I binge watch any Real Housewives Series.

  3. Janine says:

Netflix series of the less-demanding kind. The Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast from NPR is a fave also!

  4. KPM says:

I have been listening to the Sherlock Holmes audios recently. Thanks for the chance at all the booty!

  5. Amanda says:

I listen to audio books, mostly romance but some fantasy and young adult to mix it up. Thanks for the fun giveaway!

  6. Jennifer says:

Lately I’ve been listening to podcasts or audiobooks, but I’m also fond of binging on a tv series on Netflix.

  7. Glenda says:

Honestly, I haven’t cross stitched for years, but the Subversive Cross Stitch book is definitely inspiring! I have to have it! I used to cross stitch in front of the TV ignoring whatever my husband was flipping channels between with my headphones on listening to whatever my music obsession at the time was. These days I don’t have too much of a preference for music as long as there is great variety that does not include anything from the 70s. (Pandora and my manager have killed all desire to listen to 70s music)

  8. Kajsa says:

I watch… like everything. My cross stitches are usually so huge (I sent you a picture, right Sarah?) so I have to watch a loooot of things before I’m done. I would like to say I listen to podcasts too, but I usually save them for computergames where I don’t need the sound of the game (like Sims 3 or Settlers). 🙂

  9. Kathy says:

Oooh, my bestie would love this prize pack. Tea, cross stitch and books. She says all three are the cheapest therapy. (Unless you go hog wild). She watches mystery shows while stitching. You know, investigation, medical detectives, etc. This would be a great surprise for her.

  10. Melanie says:

I usually watch whatever TV show I’m trying to catch up on – right now, that’s Penny Dreadful. Oh, and Veronica Mars, because I watched the first season, but never did finish it.

And now I want to cross-stitch “Do not fuck with me.” Or “behold my field of fucks, and see how it is barren.” Either one ^_^

  11. Terra says:

Lately I’ve been binge watching Revenge which has this great “oh no they didn’t!” quality to it that would probably go very well with the “do not fuck with me” sampler.

  12. Kristin says:

I usually watch hockey… don’t know what I’m going to do until September!

  13. Angelique says:

Podcasts! In addition to your podcast I like: All the Books, Get Booked, This American Life, Astonishing Legends, Stuff you should know, The History Chicks, Pop Culture Happy hour, and Fangirl Happy Hour.

I’ll also watch tv or movies, but it has to be something I’m not super invested in or I get distracted. For a while we were watching the Bachelor with my friends and I did a lot of cross stitching then 🙂

    Thanks for this giveaway!

  14. EFK says:

Lately I’ve been sewing with my mom while re-watching all the Harry Potter movies, drinking tea and taking turns losing our scissors in the couch cushions.

  15. Jen says:

Wow I would love to win this because I’ve been trying to pick up cross stitch but don’t have any supplies! Since I’m a newbie I don’t have a stitching routine down yet, but I think I’d love to listen to audio books and podcasts while I stitch. It would be a great time to catch up!

  16. fairywine says:

I love bombastic and energetic without lyrics distracting me, so I’ll find a good opera mix on 8tracks and just kick back!

  17. Jenn says:

I like to listen to podcasts, as well ( I always have a backlog!). For watching, pretty much any sort of cozy mystery type show, be it Murder She Wrote or British things like Midsomer Mysteries, The Last Detective, Rosemary and Thyme, etc.

  18. roserita says:

Sports. Definitely sports. There’s no plot to follow, no characters to keep track of, and best of all, if something important happens, they replay it. Then they replay it again, then in slow motion, then reverse angle, maybe a worm cam shot or two. I love the NCAA basketball tournament, bowl season, major tennis tournaments, and the Olympics–wall-to-wall sports for weeks! It’s also a great time to do a little designing.

  19. Liza S says:

I listen to audiobooks. Usually YA fantasy, but right now, Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay.

  20. Karen says:

I do most of my craft activity (mainly knitting) in public – either with my knitting peeps at Starbucks or in church or at concerts, school meetings, and the like. When I am on vacation hanging out at my in-laws’ summer place, that is when I indulge in recorded books – listening, sitting on the porch, looking at the lake, and knitting. It works out nicely, since I can work on more complicated projects when it’s just me and a book, and I save the simpler things for the social knitting venues. Oh, and when I am not the driver on long car trips – another great venue for complicated projects, even if I’m not in charge of the aural content.

  21. Carrie says:

I can’t watch anything while stitching, because I lose my place too easily. So I crank up the 70s tunes and get in the zone.

  22. Tena E. says:

Holy moly, great prize pack! I enjoy throwing on the vinyl while stitching, which currently includes lots of Adele and Sia. My most recent project is a cross-stitch that says “Too glad to give a damn,” complete with little lipsticks as the border! Love me some subversive cross-stitching!!

  23. Personally, I couldn’t even consider cross stitching without some Linkin Park screaming “Bleed It Out” on my Beats. It’s so relaxing.

  24. Regina says:

I like to watch Downton Abbey.

  25. Cadence Ryanne says:

I love to put on movies while I stitch, especially sappy Hallmark movies. The ones with the animals get me every time but I try not to get my project soggy. Love me so Netflix and Miss Fisher too! Good call on the looking down in scary parts, Kristen!

  26. Becca says:

Downton Abbey! Or other BBC drama

  27. Laura says:

I usually like to watch documentaries or any kind of sports more than tv shows or movies, unless its something I’ve seen a lot. I tend to not pay much attention to the show if I try to watch something while stitching. Then I’m constantly having to rewatch parts to find out what’s going on.

  28. PamG says:

I don’t stitch anymore because doing so gives me an tension stitch between the shoulder blades. When I feel crafty, I bead because correcting mistakes multiple times doesn’t destroy the materials. Price of being an imperfect perfectionist, I guess.

While doing so, I like listening to my favorite Pandora stations–maybe Waterboys, Pearl Jam, Pink, Kamelot, Joni Mitchell, or Nina Simone. Sometimes a little William Shatner hits the spot.

  29. Lisa says:

I’m a Netflix girl and lately I’ve been watching, to quote a certain Rav forum “Midsommer F*in Murders* I’ve also been listening to the radio play BBC did of Good Omens.

  30. Elizabeth says:

So many audiobooks! Listening get yo Furiously Happy now and loving it.

  31. Monica says:

I don’t knit, it’s been years since I crocheted, but I would love to try cross stitching. It seems like it would be a very relaxing thing to do.

  32. Madge says:

I usually stitch while watching NCIS in int’s various iterations, surfacing only for Gibbs, Pride, Hetty or Abbir!

  33. Nettle says:

Podcasts, particularly ones that focus on travel.

  34. Abby says:

Sometimes I do podcasts, but I usually watch TV shows or movies that I’ve seen a lot (and don’t have to think about!) so that if I’m at a particularly tricky bit, I can look away and focus on my work for a while. If it’s a simple project, though, then I will watch something new that I haven’t seen before.

  35. Katharine says:

I listen to podcasts while I do needlepoint. Sometimes calming and zen-ish ones (particularly On Being), if I need to chill out on an existential level. But sometimes I listen to podcasts that make me laugh, or occasionally an audiobook, if I’m listening to one and I can’t stop!

  36. Amy Renee says:

I’ve never gotten beyond beginner level at stitching, knitting or crocheting, so I’ve found I can’t do audiobooks or TV unless its something I already know very well, and my project is repetitive with minimal/no counting. So typically my viewing consists of “how do you do that stitch again?” YouTube videos.

  37. Jordan R. says:

I’m addicted to audiobooks, but I also love watching trashy tv while crocheting! I don’t care as much about the looking up and down

  38. Jill B says:

I prefer musicals or old favorites so that I won’t get distracted and count my cross stitch incorrectly.

  39. Nancy C says:

Lately, I have been watching a lot of CNN. They repeat the same things over and over, so I don’t have to pay too much attention to what theyare reporting.

  40. Shawnie says:

While stitching, I binge watch Netflix, currently going through Gilmore Girls again. I also love going through Miss Fisher episodes again.
