Hello fellow Stitchy Bitches! It’s time for another summer crafting giveaway, this time for our cross stitching readers.

Included in this giveaway are:
- A Bucilla Bluebird counted cross stitch kit. This kit includes floss, needles, aida cloth and the pattern–everything you need for the project. The finished piece measures 10 X 8″.
- A copy of Subversive Cross Stitch: 50 F*cking Clever Designs For Your Sassy Side by Julie Jackson. This book of patterns is full of swears and humor. I’ve personally made the “Do Not Fuck With Me” sampler complete with bunnies and duckies.
- A Folklore pencil bag by Now Designs. This would be great for storing needles, scissors, and your other notions.
- An Italia Shopper bag. This bag is so cool because it measures 18″ wide by 19″ long when open but folds down to 4.5″ by 6.5″. This bag would be great for carrying your cross stitch project or for taking to the farmer’s market or local craft fair.
- A needlework blank pendant by Red Gate Stitchery. This 1.75″ by 1.25″ pendant has holes in it that allow you to stitch your own design to wear. The chain is 29.”
- A 25g tube of Crabtree and Evelyn’s Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy cream. Crafters need to keep their hands in good condition, and I keep a tube of this in my purse and my nightstand. It has a subtle herbal smell to it–not too flowery or overpowering.
- 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Pure Ice Tea. This black tea can be used to make iced or hot tea, but it’s less cloudy when steeping than most loose leaf black teas, making it ideal for icing.
- 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Decaf Peach Berry Green tea. I drink iced tea all summer and hot tea all winter. This fruity blend contains sweet peach and pineapple pieces, red Rooibos and hibiscus. It’s decaf so perfect for evening sipping.
- The entire Wicked Quills series by Eva Leigh. Woo-boy did we love this Regency series! The books are Forever Your Earl, Scandal Takes the Stage and Temptations of a Wallflower.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway except that Elyse got to go shopping which is very fun. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to stitch all the things, including potentially bunnies, duckies, and cuss words. Cross stitch can be addictive, almost as addictive as knitting, and those considering trying this at home should be cautious. Purchasing embroidery floss is also addictive. You’ve been warned. Comments will close around noon EDT Friday 1 July and winner announced later that same day.
To enter leave a comment below and tell us what you watch or listen to while you stitch. I’m a big fan of knitting while catching up on podcasts or listening to audio books. Do you jam out to death metal? Binge watch Netflix? Let us know!
UPDATE: The winner is Tonya K! Thanks to all who commented!

I usually hang out with friends while we stitch and talk (one of them owns the local cross stitch store, so we never run out of materials). If I’m stitching at home (rare because kitties don’t approve of any activity that stops the pettings), at work on breaks, or in a hotel room, I usually put on some music, whatever old favorite I’m in the mood for, from Queen to folk or classical music. TV tends to distract me – I either stop stitching to watch, or make a lot of mistakes, or both!
I’m with @ Kristen. There’s just something about needlework and mysteries. Hallmark channel indulges me by having Jesse Stone marathons. Also The Artful Detective big yay! for Canadian TV.
I’m catching up on the Stuff You Missed in History Class podcast because there’s YEARS and I only discovered it recently.
If I feel like having something to watch, I’ll put it on HGTV as long as Love It or List It isn’t on. I can look up at times but once you’ve seen one wall come down you’ve seen them all. 😀
I looove stitching to audiobooks, but most recently, I’ve been stitching while watching Outlander – can’t believe this season is almost over already – and Rome (HBO) – only 3 episodes in and it’s super fun so far!
Lots and lots of hgtv! Haha. With occasional breaks for food network. I also occasionally want a quieter night and just listen to whatever audiobook I happen to be listening to at the time.
Is it sucking up too badly to say that I listen to your podcast? Because I do, honest. Also, I watch YouTube, especially documentaries and 50s era educational filmstrips. Some of those are BANANAS.
I marathon Golden Girls when I cross stitch- I’ve seen them all so many times I don’t need to actually watch what’s happening any more
Often it’s just music. If it’s TV, it’s what’s playing on one of my PBS channels. Or a PBS series via Netflix. Although I’ve been known to pack up my small projects and take them to the park and stitch while I people watch. 🙂
I usually have Netflix on while stitching. Often, it’s rewatching my favourite series (The Office or Friends) because I like to keep most of my concentration on my project 🙂
I sit on my balcony and spy on people walking by!
What an awesome giveaway! I can’t watch tv and stitch at the same time but I do listen to audiobooks. I save podcasts like SBTB for my morning walks.
OMG! I have been wanting to learn to cross-stich just to make subversive wall hangings. As I currently don’t stitch, however, I can’t really answer. 🙁
never crossstitched before, but have really been wanting to get into it… i would imagine i would watch old episodes of dateline and unsolved mysteries, cuz that is how i roll…
It’s always something light, usually something I haven’t seen. Doctor who, friends, Buffy. If I’m doing something that requires more visual focus I switch to podcasts. More specifically, I’m working my way through the full inventory of This American Life!
Listening to music.
Lately, I’ve been knitting while binge-watching “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” It’s so good that I complain when my husband wants to save episodes to watch another day.
I also love knitting while listening to audiobooks and podcasts too. I think I knit half a sweater while listening to the first season of “Serial”
Making stuff is my “excuse” to watch British mystery shows or listen to audiobooks. Right now I’m doing a re-listen to American Gods.
For me cross stitch goes with binge watching old shows. Right now, I’m watching The West Wing (Bartlett for America!) and the Gilmore Girls. I also just figured out how to make stitching work on planes with audiobooks – Susanna Kearsley is perfect!
This seems like the perfect thing to do while I listen to the “Dear Sugar” podcast!
during the season, I usually have hockey games on – right now, there’s no hockey so I’m mostly listening to 80s music, or food/cooking programs, as I work on a Xmas gift project
My friends (who make the most gorgeous cross stitches ever) keep trying to teach me to stitch, so I’m usually listening to them, with classic sci fi or 80’s movies in the background as we have Craft (aka Wine) Day. Maybe if I got to stitch more swears and fewer flowers I’ll improve….
(I am weak and, it seems, easily bought)
When I knit or crossstitch, I listen to the music of my youth–Joan Manuel Serrat, Jose Luis Perales, Mocedades, Mecano. The music and the work, bring me closer to my late grandmother.
The BBC series, Musketeers. Buckle your swash!
Working on my “Obstinate headstrong girl” sampler while watching all the Austen film adaptations – especially BBC Pride and Prejudice and Emma.
Sometimes podcasts (love Sawbones), sometimes crappy tv I don’t have to pay attention to.
I watch scrubs or parks and recreation. I’ve seen those episodes a ton of times, so it allows me fun background noise without distracting me from my counting.
TV, movies, Netflix, whatever I’m feeling at the moment. Currently it’s The O.C. and HGTV!
Netflix. I binged most of Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently while knitting.
Netfilx
I usually have the TV on. I am planning to binge watch the 9th and 10th Doctor at some point this summer.
I used to cross stitch to Phoenix Suns basketball games. If my dad started yelling at the TV , I knew it was time to watch instead of listen. 🙂 Since my father passed away, it just isn’t the same so now I cross stitch/bead to Investigation Discovery.
I like to listen to podcasts, a bunch of different stuff including the Smart Bitches ones, and especially RadioLab and the now (sadly) defunct Definitely Not the Opera. 🙁
Podcasts, usually Futility Closet!
Netflix, I like to rewatch shows I haven’t seen in a long time. New stuff requires too much concentration while crafting
I like listening to musicals on Pandora. Give me just about any genre except vagina rock!
Definitely podcasts. I just caught up on “Gilmore Guys.” 🙂
I have the Subversive Cross Stitch book … I used part of one of the designs (a string of swearing symbols) that I stitched in dark silver and put in a lacy silver frame. I used the border from another project to frame “f*king football” stitched in an elegant script.
I watch TV while I’m stitching – the program depends on my mood and what’s on at the time.
Trashy TV. Currently the bachelorette.
Hallmark channel movies
I like to watch Downton Abbey while knitting (though I try to pick a relatively mindless pattern/project so I don’t have to look down & can take in all the costume porn). If I’m knitting something more complicated (lace shawls are my weakness) I’ll just listen to music.
