Succubus Blues

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead is $1.99! This is more urban fantasy in the early books than a romance. I actually had trouble getting into this one because it felt like nothing ever happened. But many people loved the butt-kicking succubus heroine who works in a bookstore and lusts after a sexy writer. Have you read it?
When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical?
But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid’s life is far less exotic. At least there’s her day job at a local bookstore–free books;all the white chocolate mochas she can drink;and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can’t.
But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle’s demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won’t help because Georgina’s about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny. . .

If He’s Wicked by Hannah Howell is $1.99! This is the first book in the paranormal historical romance Wherlocke series. I love historicals with paranormal elements. I wish there were more out there. In If He’s Wicked, a psychic heroine helps an earl track down the people trying to kill him. Howell’s fans seemed to love this book, but there were some readers who felt there was more telling than showing. It has a 4-star rating on GoodReads.

Unexpected Eden by Rhenna Morgan is 99c! This is a paranormal romance that doesn’t have any vampires or shifters, and readers liked the unfamiliar and new supernatural elements. However, some readers felt the chemistry was a little forced between the hero and heroine. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.
Paradise, love and power. . .and a prophecy with a price.
Most people believe Eden no longer exists. Lexi Merrill’s about to learn they’re wrong. A hard-working bartender with a self-sufficient backbone and a wary nature, she knows pickup lines like a second language. So, when Eryx Shantos barges into her world with too-smooth words and a body to back it up, she locks up her libido and vows to keep her distance.
Eryx has other ideas. As king of the Myren race, Eryx is duty-bound to enforce the laws preventing exposure of their existence to humans. Yet The Fates have led him through his dreams to Lexi, a temptation he doesn’t want to resist. The question is, is she Myren, or human – which makes her forbidden fruit?
When Eryx’s nemesis tags Lexi as his next target, Eryx insists on taking her home where he can keep her safe. Lexi had no idea “home” would mean the one-and-only land of creation. . .or that she’d trigger a prophecy that could doom her newfound race.

I concur with your “meh” on Succubus Blues. I too really wanted to like it.
I really rather liked Succubus Blues when I read it. I was rather a fan of Richelle Mead for quite a while. I never stopped liking her books but I did get to a point where I could basically see what she was doing with a particular plot and I had to stop.
I enjoyed Grave Intentions when I read it last year, it’s a neat switch up on the PNR genre.
Lord Of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase (a perennial favorite around these parts) is on sale for $1.99 today. I also highly recommend the audio as read by Kate Reading, which you can get for a song with whispersync on amazon and is quite possibly the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (which I would technically consider an historical romance) is only 99 cents on Amazon. I strongly, strongly, strongly recommend it.
