  • Mad About the Marquess

Mad About the Marquess by Elizabeth Essex

RECOMMENDED: Mad About the Marquess by Elizabeth Essex is 99c! Elyse recently read and loved this book, giving it an A:

This book is delightful. It’s actually fucking delightful now I think about it, which is like delightful times ten. The dialogue is wonderful and sass wars are just about my favorite thing ever. The plot is just enough crazysauce layered on top of historical goodness. There was literally nothing about Mad About the Marquess that I didn’t like.

From acclaimed author Elizabeth Essex comes the adventurous first book in the Highland Brides, a quartet of bold, brilliant lasses determined to make their own happily ever afters.

WHEN A LADY TAKES TO THE ROAD TO PLAY ROBIN HOOD

Lady Quince Winthrop has been robbing from society’s rich and giving to Edinburgh’s poor for years. But everything changes the day she can’t resist the temptation to steal from the Marquess of Cairn.

SHE MUST BE ON HER GUARD AGAINST HER SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM

Alasdair, Marquess of Cairn, has come back to Scotland to stop a thief, never thinking that the lass he’s trying to woo is about to give a lesson in larceny he won’t be able to forget. From the twisted streets of Auld Reeky, to the hills of the highlands, Quince leads Alasdair on a merry chase, and finds the one man she shouldn’t fall for, is the one man she can’t resist.

LOVE IS EVEN HARDER TO RESIST THAN TEMPTATION.

  • A Gentleman for All Seasons

A Gentleman for All Seasons by Shana Galen

A Gentleman for All Seasons is 99c! This is anthology with stories by Shana Galen, Vanessa Kelly, Kate Noble, and Theresa Romain. There are grumpy heroes, an enemies to lovers romance, and second chances. Readers loved the variety in the romances and how they’re all connected. Have you read this one?

The tiny village of Hemshawe is the sort of place where nothing ever happens…until a handsome ex-soldier and his matchmaking sister let the imposing manor house at the edge of town. The friendly Londoners shake up the staid people of Hemshawe, and villagers see each other in a new and oh-so-appealing light.

Suddenly long-sparring enemies become lovers, a town festival heralds a new start for a fallen woman and a dandy, and a man who has given up on love gets a second chance with the woman he never forgot. And the matchmaker herself? She won’t rest until she finds her own happily-ever-after…

A Madness in Spring by Kate Noble

Adam Sturridge has made Belinda Leonard’s blood boil since childhood, and the feeling is mutual. But when a would-be matchmaker arrives in the village of Hemshawe, she’d determined to erase the thin line between love and hate. Now, Belinda and Adam are faced with falling for someone they’ve always considered an enemy — can they overcome old prejudices and discover how to rub each other the right way?

The Summer of Wine and Scandal by Shana Galen

When viscount’s son and dandy Peregrine Lochley is temporarily exiled from London to the country for his misdeeds, the last thing he expects is to encounter an intriguing woman. But Caroline Martin has a secret to hide, and it just might be too scandalous for even this debauched rogue.

Those Autumn Nights by Theresa Romain

Ten years ago, wealthy Eliza Greenleaf broke lowly soldier Bertram Gage’s heart—but the last decade brought changes in fortune to them both. Now that he’s made his mark on the world, a twist of fate brings the Greenleaf family under his power. Will this war-hardened officer triumph over his former lover…or will Bertie and Eliza give love a second chance?

The Season for Loving by Vanessa Kelly

Miss Georgie Gage, matchmaker extraordinaire, is resigned to life as a spinster—almost. When notoriously aloof bachelor Fergus Haddon arrives from Scotland to spend Christmas with the Gage family, Georgie thinks she’s finally found her own perfect match—if, that is, she can get the handsome Highlander to agree!

  • Third Daughter

Third Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn

RECOMMENDEDThird Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn is 99c at Amazon! This is a steampunk romance that is heavily influence by Bollywood. Carrie gave this book a B- and warns that there’s also a cliffhanger:

Third Daughter is the first book in the Dharian Series, which is described as Bollywood steampunk.  Please.  Like I’m not going to read a romance that’s advertised as Bollypunk.   This book is uneven in quality, but interesting in concept and it left me eager to read the next two installments (Second Daughter and First Daughter).

Skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue… and, of course, kissing.

The Third Daughter of the Queen wants her birthday to arrive so she’ll be free to marry for love, but rumors of a new flying weapon may force her to accept a barbarian prince’s proposal for a peace-brokering marriage. Desperate to marry the charming courtesan she loves, Aniri agrees to the prince’s proposal as a subterfuge in order to spy on him, find the weapon, and hopefully avoid both war and an arranged marriage to a man she does not love.

Third Daughter is the first book in the The Dharian Affairs Trilogy (Third Daughter, Second Daughter, First Daughter). This steampunk-goes-to-Bollywood (Bollypunk!) romance that takes place in an east-Indian-flavored alternate world filled with skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue. And, of course, kissing.

  • Joy the Baker Homemade Decadence

Joy the Baker Homemade Decadence by Joy Wilson

Joy the Baker Homemade Decadence is $1.99! I like Joy the Baker’s blog, though I do warn it’ll make you drool all over your keyboard. Readers loved the variety in the book, as it also has breakfast recipes and brunch cocktails. But some found the recipes a little more complex than her first cookbook. Any other Joy the Baker fans out there?

Joy Wilson believes that everything is better with pie. And caramel. And definitely ice cream. Her world is pretty sweet: she dabbles daily in butter and sugar as her blogging alter ego, Joy the Baker. Her new book, Joy the Baker Homemade Decadence, is packed with 125 of Joy’s favorite, supereasy, most over-the-top, totally delicious treats, such as Dark Chocolate, Pistachio, and Smoked Sea Salt Cookies; Butterscotch Cream Pie with Thyme-Marshmallow Meringue; Mint Chocolate Chip Cake; and Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream. After all, every day is an opportunity for sweets.

  1. Darlynne says:

I don’t even care much for historical romance, but it’s impossible to turn away from a book Elyse calls “actually fucking delightful.” That would require sterner stuff than I’m made of. *click*

  2. Ginger says:

Mad for Love (Highlands Brides 1) is still free at Amazon, so get the set.

There should be custom finger braces for one-click injuries, right? Hmmmm.

  6. LML says:

I found A Gentleman For All Seasons to be a perfect confection. I read one story each night and spent the day waiting for my reading time so that I could read the next.

  7. Fran says:

I bought Mad About the Marquess based on the recommendation here awhile ago, and I have to admit I’m a wee bit tired of references to ‘wee Quince’ ad nauseum. Add to that, she constantly has to utter such nonsense as ‘holy iced macaroons’ or ‘by jimble’ or variations thereof over and over again. I’m considering giving up on this one.

  8. Dorothea says:

Fran, Mad about the Marquess was a DNF for me too, for the reasons you list and also because the idea that these petty larcenies were enough for someone to be sent from London to Edinburgh to investigate. Bitch, please. And I just could not like wee Quince because she was a thief. Nope, DNF and no regrets.
