  • Say Yes to the Marquess

Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare

RECOMMENDED: Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is a historical romance and the second book in the Castles Ever After series. The first book is also on sale! Elyse reviewed this book and gave it a B+:

I had a raging head cold and cough when I read Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare. I think under normal circumstances it might have ventured into “too cute” territory for me, but since I was feeling like absolute crap, it was just what the doctor ordered.

Your presence is requested at romantic Twill Castle for the wedding of Miss Clio Whitmore and … and …?

After eight years of waiting for Piers Brandon, the wandering Marquess of Granville, to set a wedding date, Clio Whitmore has had enough. She’s inherited a castle, scraped
together some pride, and made plans to break her engagement.

Not if Rafe Brandon can help it. A ruthless prizefighter and notorious rake, Rafe is determined that Clio will marry his brother–even if he has to plan the dratted wedding himself.

So how does a hardened fighter cure a reluctant bride’s cold feet?

    • He starts with flowers. A wedding can’t have too many flowers. Or harps. Or cakes.
    • He lets her know she’ll make a beautiful, desirable bride–and tries not to picture her as his.
    • He doesn’t kiss her.
    • If he kisses her, he definitely doesn’t kiss her again.
    • When all else fails, he puts her in a stunning gown. And vows not to be nearby when the gown comes off.
    • And no matter what–he doesn’t fall in disastrous, hopeless love with the one woman he can never call his own.

  • Heir to the Duke

Heir to the Duke by Jane Ashford

RECOMMENDED: Heir to the Duke by Jane Ashford is $1.99! This is a historical romance that starts after the main couple are married. Redheadedgirl reviewed the book earlier this year and gave it a B+ grade:

Delightful. Didn’t give me a good book noise, but engaging and fun and hey, we don’t get to go to Brighton a lot. Yay for new places!

Nathaniel Gresham, the handsome Viscount Hargove, lives a life devoted to familial duty. As his father’s eldest son, Nathaniel’s identity remains the “heir to the Duke of Langford.” But this quiet, restrained life changes the minute he marries sweet Lady Violet Devere.

Oppressed by her family all her life, Violet is longing for her marriage vows to be spoken. Though her arranged marriage to Nathaniel was not a match made for love, they’re both looking forward to the comparative freedom of married life. And Violet is determined to show Nathaniel how to enjoy it, both in and out of the bedroom.

  • Lessons in French

Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale

Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale is $1.99! This is a second chance romance and contains a bull named Hubert. So there’s that. Readers loved the witty dialogue and comedic elements of the plot. However, some felt the plot bordered on ridiculous. Have you read this one?

It was quite settled by now. She was born to be a spinster. The gentlemen would have to declare their undying devotion to other ladies. Callie would be too much occupied with developing a delicate constitution and a dependable recipe for tapioca-jelly.

She is, after all, Lady Callista Taillefaire, jilted three times in spite of her fortune and her father’s best efforts to find her a husband. Now her greatest desire is to win the silver cup at the agricultural fair with her gigantic prize bull, Hubert. But when Callie’s only old flame returns from his long and mysterious absence in France, her quiet spinster life turns upside down.

Dark-eyed, elegant and a magnet for trouble, Trevelyan d’Augustin has given Callie lessons in more than his language in the past. Her father put a harsh and humiliating end to any dreams of romance with a French émigré scoundrel, however, and Callie never thought to see him again. Swallowing his pride, Trev has finally come home to care for his failing mother, but his secrets and misdeeds follow him.

Callie soon remembers that nothing is ever peaceful with Trev around. The enormous Hubert vanishes into thin air, one of her former jilts comes back to woo her in a most determined manner–and her bull takes the town by storm! In the midst of these misadventures, Callie finds herself falling in love again with the worst possible man for her…

  • Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel

Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel by Samantha Grace

Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel by Samantha Grace is $1.99! This is the first book in the Beau Monde historical romance series and seems to begin with a one-night-stand. Some readers found the characterization a bit inconsistent, while others felt the romance was fun and light-hearted.

He’ll never settle for one woman…

Debonair bachelor Lord Andrew Forest lives for pleasure and offers no apologies. But he receives a dose of his own medicine when his family’s entrancing houseguest beds him, then disappears without so much as a by-your-leave. He’d like to teach the little vixen a thing or two about how to love a man…if he can find her.

And she won’t settle for heartbreak…

After the dashing man of her dreams is revealed as a lying scoundrel, heiress Lana Hilary is ready to seek a match with a respectable gentleman—if only they weren’t so dreadfully boring. Unable to rein in her bold nature for long, Lana flirts with trouble and finds herself entangled with exactly the type of man she’s vowed to avoid.

I was one of the ones who found the plot of Lessons in French to be ridiculous. It was a DNF for me. Maybe I was just in a bad mood though …

  4. Ginger says:

I also found Lessons in French to be ridiculous, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. There are some days you’re in the mood for the 3 Stooges, and some days you’re not…!

Also not a fan of Lessons in French. I DNF’ed it too. And I have loved every other Laura Kinsale book I have read.

  7. Mary Star says:

Paris in Love by Eloisa James is on sale. This was a wonderful little memoir.

  9. Susan/DC says:

I loved Kinsale’s Lessons in French. She often has more than a touch of whimsy I’m her more lighthearted books, and I guess it’s a matter of taste as to whether one finds it too much or charming. Despite the whimsy, I found the characters 3-dimensional and appealing.
