Books On Sale

Yes, Please and a Trio of Earls!

  • Yes Please

    Yes Please by Amy Poehler

RECOMMENDED: Yes, Please by Amy Poehler is $4.99 at most vendors! Which is kind of a steal, if you ask me! I talked about this book back in 2014 and how it was the right thing at the right time for me, as my depression had started to rear its ugly head again. While the memoir never gets too deep, admittedly, it’ll be sure to put a smile on your face.

In Amy Poehler’s highly anticipated first book, Yes Please, she offers up a big juicy stew of personal stories, funny bits on sex and love and friendship and parenthood and real life advice (some useful, some not so much), like when to be funny and when to be serious. Powered by Amy’s charming and hilarious, biting yet wise voice, Yes Please is a book is full of words to live by.

  • Forever Your Earl

Forever Your Earl by Eva Leigh

RECOMMENDED: Forever Your Earl by Eva Leigh is $2.99! This is the first book in The Wicked Quills of London series and Redheadedgirl gave it an A:

Zoe Archer has been one of my favorite authors since that one time she basically saved my sanity (even if she was also the indirect cause of one of the worst reading experiences of my life). No matter what, I can always count on her for strong, determined heroines with all sorts of agency, and heroes that also were strong and worthy and respectful of the women that chose them. While I like the adventure romances of Zoe Archer very much, you can all imagine my grabby hands when she announced that she was going to write straight historicals under the name Eva Leigh.

This is the first one of that series, and it was totallllly worth the wait.

Eva Leigh’s irresistible new series introduces the Wicked Quills of London: a group of bold, brilliant female writers whose spirited allure is beyond seductive…

Eleanor Hawke loves a good scandal. And readers of her successful gossip rag live for the exploits of her favorite subject: Daniel Balfour, the notorious Earl of Ashford. So when the earl himself marches into her office and invites her to experience his illicit pursuits firsthand, Eleanor is stunned. Gambling hells, phaeton races, masquerades . . . What more could a scandal writer want than a secret look into the life of this devilishly handsome rake?

Daniel has secrets, and if The Hawk’s Eye gets wind of them, a man’s life could be at stake. And what better way to distract a gossip than by feeding her the scandal she desperately craves? But Daniel never expected the sharp mind and biting wit of the beautiful writer, and their desire for each other threatens even his best-laid plans.

But when Eleanor learns the truth of his deception, Daniel will do anything to prove a romance between a commoner and an earl could really last forever.

  • One Good Earl Deserves a Lover

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean is $3.99! This is book two in her Rules of Scoundrels series with the first book also being on sale for $1.99. It also has a 4+ star average on GoodReads, and features a scientist heroine who is determined to learn about sexuality before her wedding night, and needs a rogue to help her with said research. The book does deal with cheating as the heroine is soon to be married to someone else, which I know some readers aren’t fond of in their books.

In a previous Books on Sale post, Sarah had this to say:

I wanted to love the heroine, and while I liked her, I struggled with this book for a few of the same reasons that the other 2-star reviewers did, but those who loved this book, loooved this book.

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover, the second book in New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean’s award-winning Rules of Scoundrels series, is a lively, romantic adventure, starring a lovable, sometimes bumbling heroine and a sexy, leading man who offer up plenty of steamy sexual tension.

Nearly engaged to Lord Castleton, the always proper and logical Lady Philippa “Pippa” Marbury wants to learn about London’s dark side before she happily heads off to the country and embraces married life. But it’s in London’s shadowy corners where she meets Cross, the brooding, mysterious bookkeeper of The Fallen Angel, London’s most notorious and coveted gaming hell. He’s a rogue in every sense of the word. Or is he?

The heroes of the Rule of Scoundrels books will steal the hearts of their heroines and readers alike!

  • The Earl Next Door

The Earl Next Door by Charis Michaels

The Earl Next Door by Charis Michaels is $1.99! This book came out only last week and Elyse had picked it for March’s Hide Your Wallet post. Some readers mentioned that the book does have a slow start, but many loved the writing. Anyone interested in this?

Charis Michaels makes her Avon Impulse debut with the first book in her new historical romance series, The Bachelor Lords of London…featuring a brooding earl and the American heiress who charms him.

American heiress Piety Grey is on the run. Suddenly in London and facing the renovation of a crumbling townhouse, she’s determined to make a new life for herself—anything is better than returning to New York City where a cruel mother and horrid betrothal await her. The last thing she needs is a dark, tempting earl inciting her at every turn…

Trevor Rheese, the Earl of Falcondale, isn’t interested in being a good neighbor. After fifteen years of familial obligation, he’s finally free. But when the disarmingly beautiful Piety bursts through his wall—and into his life—his newfound freedom is threatened…even as his curiosity is piqued.

Once Piety’s family arrives in London, Falcondale suddenly finds himself in the midst of a mock courtship to protect the seductive woman who’s turned his world upside down. It’s all for show—or at least it should be. But if Falcondale isn’t careful, he may find a very real happily ever after with the woman of his dreams…

@jcp I like “Swashwords.” You may have coined a new term. Swashwords: Witty repartee, fencing with vocalizations instead of foils.

  4. Lots of falling off dresses are on sale! But excuse me– I’m sticking with Yes Please! Amy Poehler’s dress is staying in place after all.

  5. DonnaMarie says:

I’d recommend the audio book version of Yes, Please because as entertaining as the essays are, they’re so much better when she reads them to you. And guest stars.

  6. LauraL says:

I am about half-way through The Earl Next Door and my stomach was turned a bit before breakfast this morning by a scene with an attempted rape in a church. In a sanctuary, mind you. Anachronisms abound, so if your brain spends a lot of time in the Regency period, like mine, it can be distracting.
