Nimona

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson is $3.99! This graphic novel comes highly recommended and if you dug Carrie’s Lumberjanes review, you might consider picking this one up. Some were a little confused by the end to this graphic novel, but many loved the blend of science, action, and humor. Have you read this one?
The graphic novel debut from rising star Noelle Stevenson, based on her beloved and critically acclaimed web comic, which Slate awarded its Cartoonist Studio Prize, calling it “a deadpan epic.”
Nemeses! Dragons! Science! Symbolism! All these and more await in this brilliantly subversive, sharply irreverent epic from Noelle Stevenson. Featuring an exclusive epilogue not seen in the web comic, along with bonus conceptual sketches and revised pages throughout, this gorgeous full-color graphic novel is perfect for the legions of fans of the web comic and is sure to win Noelle many new ones.
Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren’t the heroes everyone thinks they are.
But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.

Heartbreaker by Linda Howard is 99c! This is a contemporary romance with elements of suspense, and it was originally published in 1987. It became available digitally this February! That being said, a few readers felt the details of the book were a bit dated (cough – shoulder pads – cough). This can be read as a standalone even though it’s the third in the series.
Available digitally for the first time ever, Heartbreaker is a classic novel of romantic suspense from New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author Linda Howard
Michelle Cabot reluctantly returns home to central Florida, having inherited her father’s cattle ranch—and the mountain of bills that go with it. But Michelle’s determined to turn things around, even as she discovers she’s heavily indebted to neighboring rancher John Rafferty, a man she’s spent ten years trying to forget.
John has his own ideas for how the spoiled princess he remembers might pay him back—but when Michelle’s secrets come to light, he’ll do anything to protect her…including letting go of the past once and for all.

Red Handed by Shelly Bell is 99c! This is an erotic romance with BDSM elements. It also has hints of romantic suspense. Some readers found the dialogue to be a bit cheesy at times, while others admit that the plot is more complex than it seems. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

On the Front Line by Marie Colvin is $1.99! I must admit that I have a weakness for military and war nonfiction written by women. This is more of a collection of Colvin’s published journalism rather than a memoir, but it’s something that seems right up my alley. It has a 4.4-star rating on Goodreads.
Veteran Sunday Times war correspondent, Marie Colvin was killed in February 2012 when covering the uprising in Syria. Winner of the Orwell Special Prize ‘On the Front Line’ is a collection of her finest work, a portion of the proceeds from which will go to the Marie Colvin Memorial Fund.
Marie Colvin held a profound belief in the pursuit of truth, and the courage and humanity of her work was deeply admired. On the Front Line includes her various interviews with Yasser Arafat and Colonel Gadaffi; reports from East Timor in 1999 where she shamed the UN into protecting its refugees; accounts of her terrifying escape from the Russian army in Chechnya; and reports from the strongholds of the Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers where she was hit by shrapnel, leaving her blind in one eye.
Typically, however, her new eye-patch only reinforced Colvin’s sense of humour and selfless conviction. She returned quickly to the front line, reporting on 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza and, lately, the Arab Spring.
Immediate and compelling, On the Front Line is a street-view of the historic events that have shaped the last 25 years, from an award-winning foreign correspondent and the outstanding journalist of her generation.

omg NIMONA she is the best everyone buy that book right now yes yes yes
Hate the photoshop job on the cover of Marie Colvin’s book. She was worth so much more than that.
Ugh, I remember that Linda Howard. Even now the word “Rafferty” is a huge ladyboner killer for me. Seriously, is there a name less sexy than Rafferty? It sounds like a crotchety old neighbor.
I, on the other hand, have Heartbreaker on my keeper shelf.
Also, giant thumbs up for On the Front Line.
