  • The Legend of Lyon Redmond

The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Ann Long

RECOMMENDED: The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long is $1.99 at select vendors! This is book eleven in the Pennyroyal Green series and Elyse gave it an A:

It’s fine to read The Legend of Lyon Redmond as a stand alone, but it won’t have as much impact without reading the earlier books in the series. Of course, that means I’m giving you a great excuse to buy a lot of books. For Pennyroyal fans who have been holding out for this one? You won’t be disappointed.

Bound by centuries of bad blood, England’s two most powerful families maintain a veneer of civility . . . until the heir to the staggering Redmond fortune disappears, reviving rumors of an ancient curse: a Redmond and an Eversea are destined to fall disastrously in love once per generation.

    An Enduring Legend

Rumor has it she broke Lyon Redmond’s heart. But while many a man has since wooed the dazzling Olivia Eversea, none has ever won her—which is why jaws drop when she suddenly accepts a viscount’s proposal. Now London waits with bated breath for the wedding of a decade . . . and wagers on the return of an heir.

    An Eternal Love

It was instant and irresistible, forbidden . . . and unforgettable. And Lyon—now a driven, dangerous, infinitely devastating man—decides it’s time for a reckoning. As the day of her wedding races toward them, Lyon and Olivia will decide whether their love is a curse destined to tear their families apart . . . or the stuff of which legends are made.

  • Silent in the Grave

Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn

RECOMMENDED: Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn is $1.99! This book and series has been mentioned quite a bit on the site. Elyse recommended it if you like historical mysteries. Reader StacieH4 mentioned it for those who prefer their romance light on sex, and Reader Tina Chaney said on a podcast that the book has one of her favorite opening lines. Have you read it?

“Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.”

These ominous words, slashed from the pages of a book of Psalms, are the last threat that the darling of London society, Sir Edward Grey, receives from his killer. Before he can show them to Nicholas Brisbane, the private inquiry agent he has retained for his protection, Sir Edward collapses and dies at his London home, in the presence of his wife, Julia, and a roomful of dinner guests.

Prepared to accept that Edward’s death was due to a long-standing physical infirmity, Julia is outraged when Brisbane visits and suggests that Sir Edward has been murdered. It is a reaction she comes to regret when she discovers the damning paper for herself, and realizes the truth.

Determined to bring her husband’s murderer to justice, Julia engages the enigmatic Brisbane to help her investigate Edward’s demise. Dismissing his warnings that the investigation will be difficult, if not impossible, Julia presses forward, following a trail of clues that lead her to even more unpleasant truths, and ever closer to a killer who waits expectantly for her arrival.

  • The Heir

    The Heir by Grace Burrowes

The Heir by Grace Burrowes is 99c! This was, I believe, her first published book, and is about an earl who is the heir to a dukedom, and who has a major thing for his housekeeper, who is keeping secrets from him. This book has a 3.7 star average and many readers liked the emotion and the dialogue between the characters, but struggled with the historical anachronisms. This is the first book in the Windham series and if you want to read more of them,  five out of the eight books in the series are also on sale for 99c!

An earl who can’t be bribed…

Gayle Windham, earl of Westhaven, is the first legitimate son and heir to the duke of Moreland. To escape his father’s inexorable pressure to marry, he decides to spend the summer at his townhouse in London, where he finds himself intrigued by the secretive ways of his beautiful housekeeper…

    A lady who can’t be protected…

Anna Seaton is a beautiful, talented, educated woman, which is why it is so puzzling to Gayle Windham that she works as his housekeeper.

As the two draw closer and begin to lose their hearts to each other, Anna’s secrets threaten to bring the earl’s orderly life crashing down-and he doesn’t know how he’s going to protect her from the fallout…

  • The Lady and the Laird

The Lady and the Laird by Nicola Cornick

The Lady and the Laird by Nicola Cornick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with an enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience romance. Readers loved the Highland setting, but found the book to slump during the middle. Have you read this one?

    An Indecent Proposal!

Lady Lucy MacMorlan may have forsworn men and marriage, but that doesn’t mean she won’t agree to profit from writing love letters for her brother’s friends – letters that become increasingly racy as her fame grows. That is, until she deliberately ruins the betrothal of a notorious laird, Robert, Marquis of Methven.

Past centuries of bloodshed have left the Methven and MacMorlan families bitter enemies and Robert is furious that Lady Lucy’s letters have cost him the bride he needs so urgently to save his ancestral clan lands. Now he makes Lucy a shocking proposal; in return for his silence she must become his wife and provide him with the heir he needs. It is an inconvenient marriage of convenience but can the rugged laird and the bluestocking beauty fight against the power of love?

  1. Patricia M. says:

I clicked so fast to get The Legend of Lyon Redmond. I borrowed a copy and have been slowly savoring it. Now I can have it with me (on my electronic devices) at all times in case I feel a re-read coming on. I agree with Elyse; it is great.

  2. Lora says:

I haven’t read Legend yet but I read the review and I’m trying to decide whether to read it as a standalone or commit to the series. Let me just say I love the cover, so joyous!

  3. LML says:

Silent in the Grave is really, really good. I read it when it came out in 2007. What I remember best are Julia’s emotions upon losing her husband so early in her marriage and not coming to ‘know’ him until after his death.

  4. BriannaC says:

For Legend, read the series. Please! It will be the greatest slow burn as you make your way through them. Part of the excitement of their story was the “why” of it all. Why did things go so badly? Why did he leave so suddenly?

In my opinion this was the best book in the series.

  5. Elle says:

I love Nicola Cornick’s The Lady and the Laird.

  6. Yes, Silent in the Grave has the absolutly best opening lines. Even better than “It was the best of times…”

  7. Jen says:

I loved Pennyroyal Green but frankly I’ve kind of lost interest. 2 years ago I was dying for Lyon and Olivia’s book, and now I’m just…meh. But of course I bought it because two dollars! Maybe some day I’ll get around to reading it.

  8. Elizabeth says:

Maybe I’m alone here but I hated The Legend of Lyon Redmond. Lyon was an absolute jerk and there was no attempt to redeem him. His reason for leaving and not sending word for years on end was a bit childish, which I could excuse since he was very young. But after years of no communication at all he’s angry that Olivia has chosen to move on and demands a “reckoning” that is mean spirited at best. And to top it off he throws it in Olivia’s face that he’s had numerous sexual affairs in that time. If anyone is due for a reckoning it’s the asshole Lyon Redmond.

  9. genie says:

You aren’t alone, @Elizabeth. I didn’t like it either. Couldn’t stand either character.
