Are you ready?! It’s Bracket Selection Sunday for the 2016 DABWAHA.
What does that mean? It means the full slate of nominees has been announced, including the eight books nominated by readers.
And now: the DABWAHA bracket is ready to be filled out.
UPDATE: You have until 3/16/2014 at 12:00pm/noon ET to enter your picks!
How do you do that?
Easy! You can follow the instructions step by step at the DABWAHA site. The essential steps to enter your bracket:
- Click on “New” and enter your nickname. Only the Nickname will show up publicly. NOTE!!! If you played last year, you’ll have to start from scratch.
- Click on the title of the book you will think will win each match until you have only one book left as your Champion. Note: you are not only trying to predict which book will win, but also which author/fandom/community can best gather votes to back their favorites. Yes, it’s tricky. That’s why it’s fun.The tie breaker is the number of reader nominations we received. Hint: it is under 1000. Another hint: it is higher than 2.
- When you hit submit, you’ll go back to the DABWAHA page – do NOT be alarmed! Also: your entries will not show up immediately. They have to be manually uploaded in batches, so they don’t show immediately. If you don’t see yours within a few hours, please email Jane.
Important note for visually impaired readers: if you’re using a screen reader and having problems with the bracket selection page, please email Sarah and sh can help you complete your bracket. She can do over the phone, or can coordinate a time via Skype, but we want you to be able to participate. Don’t be shy! She’s very friendly and promises not to bite!
What’s the point of all this?
Fun! Mayhem! The newfound knowledge of connecting your wireless device to all the free WiFi in a three mile radius so you can vote repeatedly!
Also, there’s prizes. OH YES. The prizes have been posted. We have a ton of awesome prizes donated by many splendid individuals including reading devices, gift cards, books, and chocolate. Plus, there are prizes for middle of the road brackets, the worst bracket and for winners of each round. Just by picking a bracket, you’re entered in the tournament.
So what do we do now?
Right now: pick your bracket. Have a look at the books, and ask yourself, What awesome book in each category is most likely to win each round? Then, once you’ve picked your bracket, we begin voting.
Voting?
Yup. The winner of each round is determined by reader voting. Polls open, and voting commences! There’s vote mongering, trash talking, and compliment wars on all forms of social media during the DABWAHA, too, so there’s a lot of goofy fun to be had.

GAME ON!

I went to sign up and it’s only showing me last year’s books. What did I do wrong?
Yes me too. Of course I filled it in, submitted and then realised….!
Good, it’s not just me. Thought I had misremembered the books before realizing they weren’t this year’s books.
As the others said, the links takes us to last year’s bracket
Sorry for the mix-up. We are good to go!
Some of the books in the bracket are NOT the books on the list of nominees.
I’m finding the same as Phyllis Laatsch: LAST CHANCE COWBOY appears in Region 3(7) in the bracket, but it’s not in the list of nominees. And PLAYING BY THE GREEK’S RULES appears twice.
Yay prizes and revelry! A head’s up — Craving Flight is listed as Crafing Flight. Which actually sounds like an upper crust, betweeded British professor from the 1940s. “Yes, Crafing Flight here. All syllabi present and accounted for. Jolly good.”
All fixed – sorry about that!!
Got my bracket in an i am sure I did awful 🙂
If I randomly picked my bracket, I could do as well as previous years, I suspect.
Playing by the Greek’s Rules is still showing up twice – well, I assume twice. In Region 2, seed 12 is “Playing Greek Rules”, and in Region 3, seed 9 is “Playing Greek’s Rul”. So… I’m guessing they’re the same book?
Also, “A Pirate for Christmas” doesn’t appear in the bracket that I can find, but was one of the nominees in the Novella category?
Okay, hope I did that right. I used a very scientific* method for picking. 🙂
*Dice are scientific, right?
It says we have until 3/16/2014 to enter. Was that supposed to be 3/14/16? I went to the site but don’t see a “NEW” button to click on. Is it closed already? That seems awfully short timing.
@Heather T: Nope, you have until 3/16. To enter your bracket, you can click right here.
Wow – Tough brackets! On the other hand, found some more books to read . . . .
Can’t wait for that second chance – I’m going to need it!
I just submitted my first DABWAHA bracket – meep! I am afraid I shall embarrass myself terribly.
I submitted most of my choices based on titles as I hadn’t read most of the books entered. So, my TBR grew substantially and I will be reading along discovering which books I voted for and ended up not liking as well as those I liked and didn’t vote for. Oh yeah, I’m gonna kill this competition. NOT! My only hope is the second chance category.
I like the “scientific” method – especially for categories I don’t know, like New Adult. (And I was so happy to hear some readers here hate New Adult as much asI do.) It was hard to pick the winner in some categories, like picking your favorite cute puppy or favorite chocolate ice cream.
I considered entering a Worst Bracket on purpose just for the prize.
I either knocked it out of the park or crashed and burned
Darn it, mistakenly thought the cut off was midnight tonight. 🙁 First year not entering. But I’ll still be around to vote 🙂
Don’t worry! The second chance tournament will start in a few days!
I’m with you TI, read too quickly and
thought it ended at midnight as well… 🙁
Huzzah for the second chance bracket though!
