  • Sweet Disorder

    Sweet Disorder by Rose Lerner

Sweet Disorder by Rose Lerner is 99c at most vendors and has been recommended at SBTB in the past. This is a unique historical featuring the son of an earl, and a heroine who has one piece of power: two votes. She can’t cast them (pesky ovaries) but her husband can, so her hand in marriage makes her a political pawn. This book has a 3.7-star average and you can grab the second one too for 99c!

Nick Dymond enjoyed the rough-and-tumble military life until a bullet to the leg sent him home to his emotionally distant, politically obsessed family. For months, he’s lived alone with his depression, blockaded in his lodgings.

But with his younger brother desperate to win the local election, Nick has a new set of marching orders: dust off the legendary family charm and maneuver the beautiful Phoebe Sparks into a politically advantageous marriage.

One marriage was enough for Phoebe. Under her town’s by-laws, though, she owns a vote that only a husband can cast. Much as she would love to simply ignore the unappetizing matrimonial candidate pushed at her by the handsome earl’s son, she can’t. Her teenage sister is pregnant, and Phoebe’s last-ditch defense against her sister’s ruin is her vote–and her hand.

Nick and Phoebe soon realize the only match their hearts will accept is the one society will not allow. But as election intrigue turns dark, they’ll have to cast the cruelest vote of all: loyalty…or love.

Warning: Contains elections, confections, and a number of erections.

  • Grease Monkey Jive

Grease Monkey Jive by Ainslie Paton

Grease Monkey Jive by Ainslie Paton is less than $4 at certain vendors! At Kobo, you can grab it for around $3.58 and at Amazon and Google:Play, it’s listed at $2.66. It has an opposites attract romance between a ballroom teacher and a mechanic hero. The book comes from a Harlequin Australia imprint and Sarah interviewed managing editor, Kate Cuthbert, who described it as:

A big, thick, meaty, long, ensemble-cast peopled contemporary romance that reminded me of the best things of early Susan Elizabeth Phillips (without the 80s fashions).

A romance about changing the game, finding the truth, and fancy footwork.

When ballroom teacher Alex Gibson dances with Dan Maddox she’s reminded of the time she stuck a knife in the toaster, gave herself an electric shock, and saw stars. He’s precisely the type of man Alex’s mother warned her off – a player, like the father who abandoned her.

Dan Maddox comes from a long line of men who were hiding under the hood of a beat-up car when the ‘successful relationship’ gene was given out, but he was first in the queue for an extra jolt of chick-pulling power.

The chicks in Dan’s life are universally gorgeous, random, and disposable, until one drunken night when he picks the wrong girl, hurts a good friend, and realises that unless he does something to change, he’ll end up like his violent, unstable father.

It’s Pimp My Ride meets Dancing With The Stars as Alex and Dan come together to compete in a ballroom dancing competition that changes the way they both feel about relationships and love.

Rose Lerner squee!! The third one’s out now and it’s just as good. Wonderful heroine. By the way, for all you Hamilton enthusiasts who’ve read True Pretenses, she has a short story on her website in which Rafe and Ash scam Aaron Burr…

  2. JenM says:

I highly recommend Sweet Disorder and Grease Monkey Jive, especially at those prices. Sweet Disorder features a beta hero and a wonderful, strong, full-figured heroine – all catnip to me. Grease Monkey Jive is all about ballroom dancing – how can you resist that? After reading it, I read a couple of Ainslie Paton’s other books and have really enjoyed them. She doesn’t follow the usual romance tropes at all.

  3. LauraL says:

I bought the Mary Berry cookbook the last time it was on sale. There is a fruity banana bread recipe I’ve made twice now and it became an instant keeper recipe.

I also add my own Rose Lerner “squee” to the conversation.

A damaged hero and politics? Double catnip. *buys*

  5. Maz says:

Tamara Allen’s new historical The Road to Silver Plume is $0.99 at Amazon and B&N, a whole whopping $1.00 at ARe.

I haven’t read it yet (but I’m rarin’ to do so soon). 🙂

  6. Maz says:

(Ugh, clicked enter way too fast). Allen’s book is an M/M historical (approx. 114,000 words).
