You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO is from Carrie (not our Carrie), who wants to find a romance that’s at least a few decades old:
I am looking for a book that I read in the late 80’s/early 90’s.
I think the heroine was a nurse or a nanny who was taking care of a child (children?) at a house in the country. The hero was protecting her and the child.
The villain (and also the hero I think) had some kind of powers. Maybe telekinesis? (I think the villain used mind control to throw knives at the heroine).
There were some sexy times on a porch swing. I think it had a blue cover. It was one of the first romances I read and my mom confiscated it.
Ah, the old mom confiscation. But a villain and possibly hero with some sort of supernatural ability is definitely a worthwhile detail!

Sounds like an old Iris Johansen. She wrote a series with gifted children and sheikhs and some kind of secret society that had both (sheikhs and children)… It’s 1am here in Taiwan, otherwise I’d look it up and would probably sound more coherent
Is it Star Light, Star Bright by Iris Johansen?

The description doesn’t mention the nanny but the review does. It’s available on Kindle for $2.99.

Oh. My. Gunner. That is it!! Thank you so much, Ladies!!! I have been wondering about this book for YEARS and it is now on my Kindle just waiting for me to come to bed tonight 🙂 Plus I had no idea it was a series. How exciting! THANK YOU!
You’re welcome! Special thanks to ijinx for pointing me in the right direction.
The main characters are GUNNER and QUENBY! I want to play Scrabble now.
That has to be the fastest HABO ever. Good job!!
I totally want to go through old HaBO requests and see how long it takes from initial request to when the title is identified. I keep thinking about it every time a title is identified super-fast, like this one. Maybe a google spreadsheet so we could crowd source it.
I don’t know if I read this but it sounds like it would have been up my alley. I read a lot of Loveswept books, a lot of Iris Johansen and any book that had the slightest whiff of paranormal.
Just wanted to say thanks again! I read it today (children got crackers for lunch – that’s OK, right?) and it was just as wonderful as I remembered! The hero is described as a “wild scaramouche” (my grandmother used that expression all the time) and as for the porch swing…I will definitely be checking out more of this series 🙂
How quickly was this answered? The time on my computer shows 14 hours between post and first reply and I don’t know how to adjust for time zones. Two or three months ago one HABO was answered in 12 minutes.
@LML: It was about 2 hours. Post went up around 10am (EST) and had an answer around noon.
