Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Heroine Mocked for Her Poetry

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

Happy Sunday! This HaBO request is from Aishwarya, who is trying to find a book based on this one scene:

So, I read an excerpt from this book…I’m not sure where.

The heroine is writing (and reading) in the library – she writes poetry- when she hears footsteps, so she hides under a table. It’s three men, one of whom she has a crush on. They talk about random things before one of them picks up her poetry lying on the table and starts mocking her. Even the one she has a crush on, the guy she thought would defend her (I think they’ve known each other for a long time?) makes fun of her. So, she jumps out, throws out a crushing insult and stomps out.

The whole story is a flashback; it’s not the present.

I wonder if the dude eventually does some serious groveling. Do you know this one?

This was a historical, and I remember reading this one. I’m trying to find it, but I’m sure it was a recommendation on SBTB from a few months ago.

  2. Meredith says:

Eloisa James’ Four Nights with the Duke starts with a scene just like this, when the heroine and hero are children (or maybe teenagers?). It then moves to the present, with the heroine and hero grown up.

  3. SandyCo says:

Yes, that’s the book! I knew someone else would find it before I could. I’m terrible with titles these days!

  4. Aishwarya says:

Oh! Thank you so much 🙂 You just made my day!

  5. Aishwarya says:

But I am curious too. DOES the hero eventually apologize for mocking her?

  6. Mary Star says:

Yes, it is explained later in the book

  7. Marie says:

And my TBR pile keeps growing. This sounds awesome!

  8. Jen says:

It sounds like Eloisa James Four Nights with the Duke

  9. denise says:

    I remember reading that book!

  10. Aishwarya says:

    What did you think, Denise?

  11. denise says:

I loved it, but I am biased because I love almost everything Eloisa writes.

  12. Kristyn says:

Haha I haven’t read this book, but taken out of context the scene sounds so ridiculous. I’m sure it makes more sense in the book, but I was giggling while picturing the woman hiding under the table. 🙂
