This HaBO request comes from Peeps, who wants to find one of the first romances she encountered:
I’ve been searching for this book title for years! It was one of the first romances I ever read as a kid.
The woman goes to a rich friend’s summer home for the weekend and attracts the attention of her friend’s older, quieter brother. She acts very outgoing, but is actually not very confident inside. She has a phobia of her head being underwater, someone pulls her under at the pool, the older brother rescues her, and then pursues her after she returns home. His rich family don’t think she’s good enough and her own parents are in a loveless marriage.
Please help! I loved this book, but in reality, it was probably terrible.
I mean, anyone who forces your head underwater is kind of a jerk even without a phobia.

Brazen by Maya Banks has a heroine that is afraid of swimming, because of reasons. I am not sure it is that book, since some things fit and somethings doesn’t. Also it is steamy and was published 2006 or thereabouts.
Is this Chain Lightning by Elizabeth Lowell?
Do remember if the book was old when you read it? Do you know the year that you read, approx.?
Was it a harlequin ?
Maybe an old Jayne Krantz novel?
It isn’t Chain Lighting by EL. That was the first EL book I ever read. She buys a bachelor and diving excursion. She doesn’t dive/put her head under water because she was in a plane crash over water and almost drown. Her GFN husband did drown which she saw. Plus she was pregnant & miscarried. There’s lots more drama to be had in the book!!! After reading this book I had to read EL’s entire back list. I really liked that style/type of drama. Ahhhh, the good old days of romance!!!
Ah, that’s right! I mostly just remembered the water phobia and the scene where she is trying to put her face in the water.
I know this one! Yay. Caprice by Amanda Carpenter.
